After having seen the promo pics for the "The Passage", I couldn't resist to have a look at Patriot Resources's collection of spoilers for BSG season 3.

Now, one entry for 3.09 "The Passage" - the much-anticipated Espenson episode focusing on Kat - says there will be several character deaths. Given how Dee is featured in the promo pics I'm afraid, this time she'll be among the casualties. Unlike most fans, I really like Duallee, so that would be a downer.

Even more important, however, I am now afraid they may kill off the best character as well. I mean, it's BSG, and the script is from a famous BSG writer, a show which had its own share of significant deaths. What do you think? Am I just paranoid, too nervous? Maybe I am so worried because Lost's Ana-Lucia was killed in her flashback episode.

I hope they will both survive.

When I read the spoilers about “Hand of God”, I was pretty afraid Kat would die. When I read the spoilers about “Scar”, I was sure Kat would die. But luckily she survived. Now I think she will survive “The Passage” (but I haven’t read the spoilers), so I hope I’m not wrong again.

I would say (Without reading anything) these sound like rumors not spoilers. I thought for sure Kat and Cally would have been killed many times over but it was always speculation.

The new season of BSG is best described as "Unpredictable". Even though the supplies of spoilers and rumors have been plenty, I have found the episodes broadcasted so far not quite one would expect from the spoilers and rumor. Yes, in a sense they did a very good job fooling the fans. There are so many things going on this season - they even move the show to a new time twice.

I stop speculating anything now. It's too much. The only thing I am sure - I'd rather see another couple great episodes on Kat even if she died than seeing her as moving backdrop (as in Hero).

I agree. I get frustrated when my favorite characters get little or no screen time. More so when other characters are introduced that do not merit screen time.

I hope Kat becomes a regular character or if not has a great send off.

As this is a Luciana Carro fan board, I would then look forward to her next project and hope it would be as awesome as Kat on BSG!

"The Passage" videos


I am not entirely sure, but I think Kat can be seen very briefly towards the end of the official trailer for the upcoming episode "The Passage" (December 8).

Actually, I'm surprised that Luciana has no real scene in this clip. What is this? Didn't the writers say this ep would focus on Kat? Hence, it's strange to see many pilots involved in leading the fleet through the passage.

Hopefully the Cox preview will feature some real Kat stuff...

A preview clip is up at YouTube. Not surprisingly, pissed off Kat pisses other pilots off. Due to the bad sound, however, I hardly understood what exactly they were doing in the duty locker.

They had this on the Sci Fi web site last Friday night. Basically there is a food shortage and they were all putting their rations on the table to split up evenly before they ate.

Kara ask Kat for her rations and Kat said she gave her rations to another person. Kara thought she was lying. Gotta love those two!

Then Lee asked Kat to come down from the bed and join them. Obviously Lee doesn't agree with Kara to make a big thing out of it. I like it the writer keep the comflicts between Kara and Kat fresh all the way from "Scar". It's good continuation (almost two years, isn't it?)

Yeah, there were 625 days between "Scar" and UB. </geek>

So the preview scene implies that Kat is selfish enough to hide her protein bars because she doesn't wanna share with other pilots? If this is the case, I don't like it. Not only because of the obvious lack of camaraderie, but especially because I think such behaviour contradicts previous scenes of Kat where the well-being of the pilots was her prime concern. Hopefully they didn't put it in just to jazz up the conflict with Kara once more.

I believe Kat.

arg, so I followed the link to the spoilers Pedda kindly supplied (I am a sucker for information), and I must say if she doesn't die her story is going to get mighty interesting. I sure hope that she doesn't die. I hate to say it but I would rather racetrack perish than lose Kat, she is really the only pilot character we have right now. They seem to be trying to get Hot Dog and Racetrack up there but Kat is the real pilot character of the show right now until Starbuck or Apollo reassume that position, which I can see happening now that the Pegusus is gone.

Well Dualla doesn't die in the Passage Here she is in the next episode the Eye of Jupiter. Sorry if this is considered a spoiler...I wonder.

This new preview finally confirms the disturbing and meaty Kat spoilers that were posted on Patriot Resource.

I wonder what made Kat reveal her dark past to the one person she is closest to, albeit in a complicated way. "The Passage" is gonna be deep stuff, and I like it. Hopefully Kara doesn't get away with her apparent self-righteousness. Adama's brutal speech might have gotten her back on the right track again, but Starbuck still searches for people who are "guilty" for what she suffered.

Ummm, I guess theres nothing I can say until I know everyone saw "Passage".

I am devastated with the loss of our beloved Kat!

Actually, I'm not in the mood for talking yet, either. I need to watch it again, and figure out what the frak happened.

I made my statement in the "How do we honor Kat?" thread. I feel very upset with the handling of this character. Mary McDonald said she would feel very betrayed if she was ever written as a Cylon. I feel Lucci was dishonored.

I understand she was a character that could be killed off. But frankly I would have preferred her been killed in Scar. Arguably the second best pilot dies at the hand of the best Raider then Starbuck gets the kill in her honor.

Or Kat could have died a hero, rescuing the colonials in Exodus where she was never even seen. There were much better ways of killing of the character.

Of course I would have preferred they kept Kat, for she really appeared to be developing an interesting and well thought out personality and was playing well off of Starbuck.

I would be willing to except the death if it was done with more respect. But I feel this is the worse way to kill a character. By stating she was a common criminal and fraud. Ugh!

Well, what do I say? I don’t know if I can find the right words, even two days after watching the episode. I am still in a state of depression. While watching the episode on Saturday, I couldn’t believe that this happened. I thought she would survive, hoped she would survive. Even during the scene with Adama I still hoped for her to survive. When Kara put her picture on the wall, I was completely devastated. I managed to write a few lines on the SciFi Board yesterday, but I was almost unable to write anything about her, and I couldn’t express my feelings very well because it was actually painful to think about it. Today, when I attended the lectures at my university, I was unable to follow the lectures, my thoughts were with Kat and Luciana. It’s hard for me to write these lines, to think about what happened to her.
When I watch a movie or a TV series I feel with the characters, but usually I don’t cry. This time, though, I burst into tears, and it’s still hard for me to accept that they killed off my favourite character on the show.

As I already mentioned on the SciFi Board, Kat’s criminal past didn’t bother me that much. Almost every character on the show has some dark secrets: Starbucks involvement in Zak’s death, Adama’s order to shoot down Bulldog and so on. And we don’t know how she ended up being a criminal, I’m pretty certain she didn’t want to be one and didn’t want to harm or hurt anyone.
Kat became a Viper pilot because she wanted do something good; to help the people and show them she was a good person. And she succeeded in that, just think about how she cared for the lives of the other pilots in ‘Scar’. And after the stim abuse in ‘Final Cut’, she felt so sorry because she let down her friends. She cared for the people around her and that made her very likable in my opinion.
So no matter what her name was before the Cylon attack, Adama is absolutely right when he says her past can’t change her accomplishments on Galactica.

What makes me very sad and a bit angry besides Kat’s death itself is the way Luciana discovered her character would die. Ron Moore said in his podcast that he and David Eick forgot to tell her, and she found out about Kat’s fate when they sent the scripts out to the actors. She really deserves better than that. After all we know, Luciana really loves her character, it must have been quite devastating to find out about it that way.

Luciana really impressed me with her portrayal of this complex and interesting character, it’s sad to see her go. Hopefully she will have the chance to play a lot of equally interesting characters during her career.

Galactica, the ship, lost an excellent pilot and a very nice person.

I'm just totally shocked & amazed that Kat was killed off. She was the reason that I became interested & followed BSG. Now that the writers have terminated her, I'm at a loss. Maybe Kat will have a twin sister turn up someday. Or better yet maybe Kat was a Cylon & another will appear!! Let's press BSG for a return of Lucci!!! Anyway, Lucci's portrayal of Kat's final scene did indeed bring tears to my eyes & gave me a heavy heart. She gave a top-notch performance. I hope Lucci will get the top roles she deserves.

I agree many characters have dark backgrounds, but my issue is really a general one with plot development for many of the characters. They isn't any, anymore. They simply create a plot device for an episode for the sake of drama. There is no history for the character, to back up the big revelation.

I find it worse yet when it was done just before a characters death...

I know how you feel, I believe she had more character development than most of the secondary characters and it is a shame to loose her at this point.
