Title: Project For The New American Century - Pnac
Description: Neoconservative strategy 101

painter - March 1, 2006 05:15 PM (GMT)
The Project for the New American Century -- better known as PNAC -- is a neoconservative think tank whose ideas were made policy during the W-Bush administration. However, many members of this organization, such as Cheney, Rumsfeld and Libby, have been movers and shakers for many many years in that 'gray' area where military, government, covert operations, counterintelligence and 'private' corporations overlap and reinforce each others vested interests (The CIA IS Wall Street). (Background history: Rumsfeld, for example, came on board with the Ford administration--which was put in place after Nixon was forced to resign. It may be significant to note that Ford, himself, was not elected to the office of Vice President; but was appointed to that office after the previous Vice President, Spirow Agnew, was forced to resign. In other words, he was pre-positioned to take Nixon's place.)

The below comes originally from DemocraticUnderground--a place I know some of you here probably detest because of their outspokenly liberal politics. However that may be, they often bring together very interesting resources such as this one. You can also find it with more links than I've provided here on 9/11 Truth.Org.

PNAC 101 - Rise of the Neocons

George W. Bush constantly reminds the nation about the threat of terrorism that began with 9/11 but he leaves out a few important details that you should know.........

June 1997

The Project for a New American Century (PNAC) was born. Populated by influential Movers of industry and Shakers of public opinion, the PNAC is an organization united in the vision for a global U.S. empire - "Pax Americana" - through coercion and military domination. Their philosophy can be simply summarized:

  • There are countries to plunder and fortunes to be made. You have it, we want it. Do as we say or suffer the consequences.

  • The U.S. already has a powerful military but we plan to nurture and grow it until it's massive and we are indomitable. Resistance is futile. We are.......

Dick Cheney, Jeb Bush, Donald Rumsfeld, Paul Wolfowitz, Steve Forbes, William J. Bennett, Frank Gaffney, and I. Lewis ("Scooter") Libby, signatories - among others - of the PNAC's "Statement of Principles":

  • "We need to...challenge regimes hostile to our interests and values."

  • "We need to increase defense spending significantly if we are to carry out
our global responsibilities today and modernize our armed forces for the future."

  • "It is important to shape circumstances before crises emerge."

January 1998
The PNAC knew that he who owns the oil also owns the world so they sent a letter to President Clinton urging him to attack Iraq and remove Saddam Hussein from power since he put "a significant portion of the world's supply of oil at hazard". Clinton didn't grant them their wish and the PNAC was disheartened that they couldn't manipulate the military while outside of the White House power structure.
http://www.newamericancentury.org/iraqclintonletter.htm

March-April 1999
In an effort to capture and control the castle and all its warriors and weapons, the PNAC offered up members Steve Forbes, Dan Quayle and Gary Bauer to run as Republican candidates in the upcoming Presidential election.
http://www.usnews.com/usnews/news/election/profile.htm

June 1999
Ever-persistent and determined to maximize their potential for success in the Presidential campaign, the PNAC exercised their power of nepotism and member Jeb Bush's brother George stepped up to the plate to join the race.

Spring 2000
The PNAC may have felt confident with their candidate's chances for winning the White House but they were absolutely smug over what they saw as a possible Fallback Plan...electronic voting machines with severe security flaws that included hidden backdoors, erasable audit trails and multiple vote totals with the potential to propel vote tampering to new heights through the magic of remote access.
Better yet, Chuck Hagel - a fellow Republican loyalist - owned the ES&S voting machine company that counted 60% of all U.S. votes. He had already won one election and was part of the U.S. Senate power team in Washington.
http://www.scoop.co.nz/mason/stories/HL0301/S00166.htm

Assured that the White House would soon be theirs, the PNAC debuted their 76-page blueprint to achieve world domination. "Rebuilding America's Defenses" became the PNAC's manifesto, detailing the ideal level of military power to specifically eliminate the hostile regimes of Iraq, Iran, Syria and North Korea and endorsing preemptive strikes against them, tradition be damned. Iraq was given star billing as Control Central for their Mid-East base of operations.

  • "At present the United States faces no global rival. America’s grand
strategy should aim to preserve and extend this advantageous position
as far into the future as possible."

  • "American landpower is the essential link in the chain that translates U.S.
military supremacy into American geopolitical preeminence."

  • "We cannot allow North Korea, Iran, Iraq or similar states to undermine
          American leadership'.

  • "While the unresolved conflict with Iraq provides the immediate justification,
the need for a substantial American force presence in the Gulf transcends
the issue of the regime of Saddam Hussein."

What is particularly foreboding and chilling in view of events to later unfold, is this statement bemoaning the lengthy process of rebuilding the existing U.S. military according to the heightened standards and specifications the PNAC aspired to:

"...the process of transformation, even if it brings revolutionary change, is
likely to be a long one, absent some catastrophic and catalyzing event - like
           a new Pearl Harbor."

http://cryptome.org/rad.htm

November 2000
Saddam may have sensed an ill wind in the air when he made the first strike, turned his back on the U.S. Dollar and accepted only Euros as payment for his oil. This had the potential of seriously destabilizing the U.S. economy and the PNAC considered this an hostile act of aggression towards their personal and business interests. The heat was on for them to make their first move.

December 2000
In a highly contentious Presidential vote battle on the home turf of PNAC member Jeb Bush, the Supreme Court decided that George Bush was the new President.
Bush now had the green light to seamlessly merge members of the PNAC into his Administration with no one the wiser. PNAC members elevated to the Bush hierarchy include, among others:

  • Donald Rumsfeld - Secretary of Defense

  • Paul Wolfowitz - Deputy Secretary of Defense

  • Elliott Abrams - Member of the National Security Council

  • John Bolton - Undersecretary for Arms Control and International Security

  • Richard Perle - Chairman of the advisory Defense Policy Board

  • Richard Armitage - Deputy Secretary of State

  • John Bolton - Undersecretary of State for Disarmament

  • Zalmay Khalilzad - White House liaison to the Iraqi opposition

An Honorable Mention was awarded to Condoleezza Rice - National Security Advisor - who is a former oil-company consultant having been on the board of directors of Chevron as its main expert on Kazakhstan.

The PNAC agenda had now passed "Go". The most powerful military machine in the world stood at their ready and Saddam was in the crosshair.

Wasting no time, Cheney secretly assembled an advisory panel of oil and gas executives from Enron, Dynergy, Shell Oil, Chevron/Texaco and British Petroleum under the direction of James Baker (former Secretary of State under George Bush Sr.) to help shape our national energy policy and justify the PNAC's anticipated war with Iraq.

Contributing substantially to the task force discussions and recommendations was a shadowy group of unidentified observers who still remain unknown. Sheikh Saud Al Nasser Al Sabah, the former Kuwaiti oil minister, also made a contribution to the group's final report which was funded through Khalid Al-Turki (a Saudi Arabian oil and gas enterprise) and the Arthur Ross Foundation (a non-profit organization that - on the surface - appears to be a supporter of the Arts.)
http://www.yuricareport.com/PoliticalAnaly...nWhiteHouse.htm

March 2001
Cheney closely guarded the details surrounding his energy task force but documents released through the Freedom of Information Act reveal a map of Iraqi oilfields, pipelines, refineries and terminals, as well as 2 charts detailing Iraqi oil and gas projects, and “Foreign Suitors for Iraqi Oilfield Contracts.â€
http://www.judicialwatch.org/071703.c_.shtml

As one Internet poster pointed out:

  • "The Iraq map is not a map, it's a plan.

  • "There are several areas marked 'earmarked for production sharing' (look at
'the map legend), which means privatized oil  fields. Iraq did not have
privatized oil fields and production sharing agreements before the US took
              it over.

  • "There are also parcels marked on the Iraq oil field and exploration map
(numbered 'Block 1' through '9'). Iraq did not have an active, privatized oil
exploration program going on  before it was conquered by the US.

  • "If you read the footnotes and entire contents of the other documents,
there is a heavy emphasis on business concerns, such as contracts and
vendors over items one might think would be more important in a
government discussion, such as capacity, long term reserves, etc...

  • "One footnote (in UAEOilProj.pdf) even contains investment  advice for the
participants at the meeting, suggesting opportunities in downstream
projects, such as power desalination and pipeline projects.

  • "These are not 'just maps'. Read them."

It can be argued that the spoils of war were being doled out two years before Iraq once again became a household word. Perhaps this explains why Cheney worked so hard and so long to keep this information suppressed until Iraq was under U.S. military control...by then it would be too late for the public to object to the invasion.

Iraq, circa March 2001, painted a completely different picture than the Evil Empire the Bush Administrations tried to portray in their determined rush to war.

  • "Iraq was one of the more progressive Islamic countries in the region. It
provided full rights for women and public education for its citizens who
enjoyed a decent standard of living."

  • "Despite the years of bombings and the even greater toll on human life
taken by the sanctions, visitors to Baghdad don't see a city in ruins.
Much of the wreckage has been cleared away, much has been repaired.

  • "In our hotel, there's running water throughout the day, hot water in the
morning. Various streets in Baghdad are lined with little stores, surprisingly
well-stocked with household appliances, hardware goods, furniture, and
clothes (much of which has a second-hand look).

  • "We see no derelicts or homeless people on the streets, no prostitutes or
ragged bands of abandoned children, though there are occasional
youngsters eager to shine shoes or solicit spare change. But even they
seem to be well-fed and decently clothed. ......large swaths of the city
used to  be shrouded in complete darkness; today, there are lights just
              about everywhere

  • "People used to feel hopelessly isolated and now there seems to be more
people and better morale. Sadly though, "more and more children are
turning up with leukemia" (a result of the tons of depleted uranium the
U.S. military used and left behind after Gulf War I.)

  • "The Iraqi leadership could turn US policy completely around by uttering
just two magic words: "free market." All they have to do is invite the
International Monetary Fund and World Bank into Iraq, eliminate free
education and free medical care, abolish the minimal food ration that goes
to every Iraqi, abolish the housing and transportation subsidies, and hand
over the country's oil industry to the corporate cartels. To lift the
sanctions, Iraq must surrender to the tender mercies of the free-market
              paradise....

  • "Until then, Iraq will continue to be designated a "rogue nation" by those
policy makers in Washington who themselves are the meanest profit-
              driven, power-mongering rogues on earth."

http://www.towardfreedom.com/2001/mar01/iraq.htm

The issue of trade sanctions against Iraq put the Bush Administration in a bind - the sanctions had been designed to punish Saddam for not conceding to U.S. demands but it ended up handicapping U.S. corporations and undermining the PNAC's drive for U.S. economic supremacy. The Bush Administration was on a tight four year schedule to oust Saddam and launch the PNAC's Grand Plan for World Domination but they still didn't have a viable script to sell to the public. Yet.

It is important to shape circumstances ....... - PNAC Statement of Principles

May 2001
The U.S. State Department met with Iran, German and Italian officials to discuss Afghanistan. It was decided that the ruling Taliban would be toppled and a "broad-based government" would control the country so a gas pipeline could be built there.

Even as plans were being made to remove the Taliban rulers from power, Colin Powell announced a $43 million "gift" to Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in the UAE received a call that Bin Laden supporters were in the U.S. planning attacks with explosives. It was rumored that Bin Laden was interested in hijacking U.S. aircraft.

June 2001
The decades-old procedure for a quick response by the nation’s air defense was changed. NORAD’s military commanders could no longer issue the order to launch fighter jets because approval had to be sought from the civilian Defense Secretary, PNAC-member Donald Rumsfeld.

July 2001
The private plot formulated in May for toppling the Taliban was divulged during the G8 summit in Genoa, Italy. Immediately after the conference, American, Russian, German and Pakistani officials secretly met in Berlin to finalize the strategy for military strikes against the Taliban, scheduled to begin before mid-October 2001

September 2001
The "catastrophic and catalyzing" modern-day Pearl Harbor envisioned years earlier by the PNAC came to pass when the WTC and Pentagon were attacked as Rumsfeld sat passive and unresponsive. The finger of blame was pointed at Osama bin Laden, a former CIA operative with ties to Afghanistan. Suddenly, the U.S. "gift" of $43 million to the Taliban in May was cast in a new light. Coincidentally, Pakistan had participated in the plan to attack Afghanistan and the chief of Pakistan's Inter Service Intelligence (ISI) agency was later linked to a 911 hijacker after wiring him $100,00 just days before the WTC fell. Pakistan's ISI also had a long-standing working relationship with the CIA.

The PNAC had scored a home run with the bases loaded with the 911 event: shock, horror and fear gripped the nation, the war on "terrorism" had been established in no uncertain terms, attacking Afghanistan with public approval was a foregone conclusion and the stage was set for building a public case against Saddam.
Not one to let a good attack go to waste, Defense Secretary/PNAC-member Donald H. Rumsfeld sprung into action.

  • He told his aides to come up with plans for striking Iraq, even though Saddam wasn't linked to the attacks.

  • PNAC-James Woolsey, former CIA director, was dispatched to London to look for and 'firm up' evidence of Iraqi involvement in the 911 attacks.

  • PNAC-member and Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz was authorized to create the Office of Special Plans.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2002/09/04/...ain520830.shtml

"It is important to shape circumstances..........." - PNAC Statement of Principles

The Office of Special Plans (OSP) was a secret group of analysts and policy advisors with no status in the intelligence community. Nevertheless they reported directly to the White House and National Security office with cherry-picked intelligence from questionable sources to support the case for invading Iraq. The OSP circumvented formal, well-established oversight procedures, ignored intelligence that didn't further their agenda, expanded the intelligence on weapons beyond what was justified and over-emphasized the national security risk. They became more influential than the C.I.A. or the Defense Intelligence Agency who didn't even know the ultra-secret OSP existed for at least a year.

Because they were based in the Pentagon, it was assumed that the OSP was an intelligence-gathering agency that was second-guessing the C.I.A. but in actuality it was the White House Military Marketing Machine charged with the task of writing the PNAC's "Get Saddam" sales pitch for the public. Shading and bending reality to suit their own purpose, it wasn't important for the OSP's stories about Saddam to be factual, only that the average American believed them to be - in true Hollywood fashion.
http://www.newyorker.com/fact/content/?030512fa_fact

While the nation was stripped to the emotional bone and painfully vulnerable, the White House capitalized on the opportunity to reshape public perceptions and responses to conform with the PNAC's new American agenda. Rather than buoy the "can do" American spirit with optimism and hope for the future as Presidents before him had done in times of crisis, Bush spoke with an alarmist and pessimistic tone that served to perpetuate the high anxiety, excitability and fear in the populace.

To hear him speak, the world was a dark, evil and dangerous place....terrorism was here to stay....it would be a long struggle....America was helpless without the military might of the Government to keep the nation safe. The intent was to create a psychologically broken, weary and docile populace that would be easier to lead into war.
http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/opinion/1305...cusecond13.html

Fear became the Administration's strategic tactic for reprogramming the public into accepting the PNAC's militaristic designs. Still shell-shocked and exhausted from the enormity of the WTC and Pentagon tragedies, the public's panic shifted into frenzied over-drive when anthrax-laced envelopes arrived in government and media offices, killing five people. A perpetrator was never identified but the investigation eventually centered around the Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases at Fort Detrick, one of the nation's main anthrax research centers.
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,126244,00.html

Using classic "operant learning" techniques from the realm of consumer psychology, the public was purposely kept on High Alert and continually "shaped" with ominous sound bites on the nightly news and "Level Orange Terror Alerts" at regularly scheduled but discrete intervals.
http://www.consumerpsychologist.com/#Perception

October 2001
With flags waving, crowds cheering, and anthems playing, the "War On Terror" and the hunt for Osama began when Afghanistan was attacked right on schedule of July's secret meeting.
Immediately afterwards the PNAC and White House collaboration of "GET SADDAM" played relentlessly on televisions and in newspapers across the nation and the World as the "War on Terror" waged on and the litany of lies began.

The only terrorists we have to fear are those that occupy the White House.

Pass it on
This has been a presentation of The Whispering Campaign - an opportunity to become ACTIVELY involved in educating the American public without drawing attention to yourself. This is a game of Political "Gossip" where the story of our Government's deception and betrayal gets passed from one villager to another.
Anyone can play. The rules are simple: make ten copies of this timeline and leave it in a public place where someone else will find it and read it. Ideal locations for maximum exposure include book stores, copy shops, libraries and train stations. Buses, taxis, laundromats, and check-out lines at the grocery store. Hair salons, rest rooms, gas stations and convenience stores. Anywhere you happen to be will work just fine. The American public deserves to know the TRUTH!

Israeli Lobby - The Report

By Ted Lang
3-25-6

"Mearsheimer and Walt's paper leaves absolutely no doubt that Israel not only controls our entire government, our Pentagon, our foreign policy and our political parties, but our media as well."

It's all coming together so quickly now, but never should we even remotely consider relaxing our assault. In federal government circles, selection by upper management of a candidate to attend the senior management program offered to upwardly mobile government executives as offered by the John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University, is in and of itself a high privilege and an honor. It clearly signifies to all that an attendee and graduate of the program is destined for the highest ranks of government service; namely, the Senior Executive Service.

During my employment with the federal government, virtually every high-level executive I reported to was an SES that graduated from this high-power school. The John F. Kennedy School of Government of Harvard University is, therefore, a very prestigious center of learning, both in terms of academic ranking and in terms of its ranking by the highest levels of management within the United States government. Professor Stephen M. Walt is a professor at JFK, while John J. Mearsheimer is a professor in the Department of Political Science at the University of Chicago.

As with all institutions of higher learning, professors at these colleges and universities are continuously urged, if not actually pressured, to produce essays, technical reports, and books expounding upon their respective areas of expertise based on their concentration of educational and research disciplines. The JFK School provides just such a vehicle for technical reporting and essay writing in their "Faculty Research Working Papers Series." It was through this venue, that Mearsheimer and Walt published their latest eye-opening report, entitled: "The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy." Needless to say, at this time in our nation's history, it couldn't come at a more critical time.

As Americans feverishly attempt to understand the workings of the twisted mind of a totally out-of-control genocidal lunatic and mass-murdering warmongering buffoon and his gang that has hijacked the government of the United States, explanations for his unilateral and unnecessary invasion abound in limitless speculation and inquiry. However, the most frequently offered rationale, if that is what it can be called, is that it was primarily about oil. But considering the hostility of Israel, its penchant and perfected planning and execution of terror, it becomes increasingly clear that the foreign policy of the United States is dictated by Israel. I have often pointed out that assessment in this space.

Mearsheimer and Walt's paper leaves absolutely no doubt that Israel not only controls our entire government, our Pentagon, our foreign policy and our political parties, but our media as well. Digressing a moment from the natural order of topics in their magnificent paper, let's move immediately to the report's treatment of Israeli control of the American corporate mainstream establishment media, as it will be the intention of that un-American element and institution to work hard and feverishly to spike and cover up this damaging report that exposes the motivational madness of the Bush regime.

Addressing the section, "Manipulating the Media," Mearsheimer and Walt offer: "In addition to influencing government policy directly, the Lobby [AIPAC] strives to shape public perceptions about Israel and the Middle East. It does not want an open debate on issues involving Israel, because an open debate might cause Americans to question the level of support that they currently provide. Accordingly, pro-Israel organizations work hard to influence the media, think tanks, and academia, because these institutions are critical in shaping popular opinion."

The report goes on: "The Lobby's perspective on Israel is widely reflected in the mainstream media in good part because most American commentators are pro-Israel. The debate among Middle East pundits, journalist Eric Alterman writes, is dominated by people who cannot imagine criticizing Israel., He lists 61 columnists and commentators who can be counted upon to support Israel reflexively and without qualification., Conversely, Alterman found just five pundits who consistently criticize Israeli behavior or endorse pro-Arab positions. Newspapers occasionally publish guest op-eds challenging Israeli policy, but the balance of opinion clearly favors the other side."

Certain key elements of the Alternative Media, this site among them, have consistently exposed the one-sidedness of the MSM in protecting Israel and extending this protection therefore to the Bush administration. That is precisely what empowers the administration as a regime. And what it doesn't say in the report, is the astonishing control that Jews sympathetic to Israel, and therefore supportive of the Bush crime machine, overwhelming own, manage and operate print and TV and cable electronic news reporting. This subject wasn't even touched on.

The report then turns to a brief analysis of the New York Times. This is "America's newspaper of record" and as Bernie Goldberg has revealed, is the national editorial gatekeeper and assessor of what is newsworthy and what is not. It is the Times that decides what news will be on TV and cable later in the evening, and you may rest comfortably sure that this Mearsheimer and Walt report will not make it, nor will Charlie Sheen. It is the Times, that blocked the Downing Street Memo report and is now also dedicated to blocking a full, open investigation of the Bush 9-11 plot.

Concerning the Times, Mearsheimer and Walt offer: "Editorial bias is also found in papers like the New York Times. The Times occasionally criticizes Israeli policies and sometimes concedes that the Palestinians have legitimate grievances, but it is not even-handed. In his memoirs, for example, former Times executive editor Max Frankel acknowledged the impact of his own pro-Israel attitude had on his editorial choices. In his words: I was much more deeply devoted to Israel than I dared to assert., He goes on: Fortified by my knowledge of Israel and my friendships there, I myself wrote most of our Middle East commentaries. As more Arab than Jewish readers recognized, I wrote them from a pro-Israel perspective.,"

The report goes on to give examples of the organized manner in which the Israeli Lobby encourages the supportive consumers of newspaper, radio and television news, to literally bombard news entities with protest letters and e-mails in the true and time-worn fashion of Zionist agitation to stifle news and views they don't like, and to urge for propaganda favoring Israel. Examples of Zionist rank and file pressure on CNN and NPR are cited. The report concludes this section on the media offering, "These factors help explain why the American media contains few criticisms of Israeli policy, rarely questions Washington's relationship with Israel, and only occasionally discusses the Lobby's profound influence on U.S. policy."

It should be crystal clear that my labeling of the MSM as being "The Zionist Media" is now virtually proven fact, especially coming from this highly regarded institution of government studies and from trainers of candidates for the Senior Executive Service. And you can count on the fact that the Zionist media is burning the midnight oil to feverishly suppress this critical exposé.

The report's opening remarks now: "U.S. foreign policy shapes events in every corner of the globe. Nowhere is this truer than in the Middle East, a region of recurring instability and enormous strategic importance. Most recently, the Bush Administration's attempt to transform the region into a community of democracies has helped produce a resilient insurgency in Iraq, a sharp rise in world oil prices, and terrorist bombings in Madrid, London, and Amman. With so much at stake for so many, all countries need to understand the forces that drive U.S. Middle East policy.

The U.S. national interest should be the primary object of American foreign policy. For the past several decades, however, and especially since the Six Day War in 1967, the centerpiece of U.S. Middle East policy has been its relationship with Israel. The combination of unwavering U.S. support for Israel and the related effort to spread democracy throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardized U.S. security.

This situation has no equal in American political history. Why has the United States been willing to set aside its own security in order to advance the interests of another state? One might assume that the bond between the two countries is based on shared strategic interests or compelling moral imperatives. As we show below, however, neither of those explanations can account for the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the United States provides to Israel." Now we may all rest more than comfortably assured that virtually all organized Jewry, and all levels of American government, political parties, and especially the media, will violently explode with outrage and spring into overwhelming unified and coordinated action over this 83-page unabashed truthful report which exposes the horrific damage Zionism has already perpetrated against our once free and beautiful nation. This Zionism required "the Pearl Harbor of the 21st Century," and it is becoming increasingly clear that such an amount of plotting and execution as serves the immediate interests of Israel likely generated the compliant action on the part of the traitors in our own government that engineered and made 9-11 happen. It makes the likelihood of 9-11 less an act of random terrorism and more a deliberate action considering all the key Pentagon players who have dual citizenship with Israel.

How could any thinking American anywhere in our government entrust our most powerful military might and its top secret sensitivity to individuals with dual citizenship with the 106th ranking nation in terms of population, and a ranking as fourth as a world-leading nuclear power, a rogue nation that is actively waging terrorism upon other nations? How can such power be turned over to citizens of a nation that lusts for the destruction of the entire Arab world and Islam, a race, people and nations that control the Earth's most vital oil supplies? How can politicians calling themselves "Americans" put their entire nation at risk of reprisal for the terrorist outrages that Zionist criminals in Israel have perpetrated against all the peoples of the Middle East? How? Ask Bush!!!

Need one raise more obvious questions? Where did WE learn how to become terrorists and turn on our own? Why did we turn against the whole world and ignore human decency and morality, and ignore the Geneva Conventions and begin campaigns of torture and mass terror, and slaughter unarmed captive men, women and children? Who showed US how to do this and get away with it? Who? Ask Israel!!!

Mearsheimer and Walt summarize: "It is not surprising that Israel and its American supporters want the United States to deal with any and all threats to Israel's security. If their efforts to shape U.S. policy succeed, then Israel's enemies get weakened or overthrown, Israel gets a free hand with the Palestinians, and the United States does most of the fighting, dying, rebuilding, and paying.

But even if the United States fails to transform the Middle East and finds itself in conflict with an increasingly radicalized Arab and Islamic world, Israel still ends up protected by the world's only superpower. This is not a perfect outcome from [AIPAC's] perspective, but it is obviously preferable to Washington distancing itself from Israel, or using its leverage to force Israel to make peace with the Palestinians."

The report concludes: "Can the [Israeli-AIPAC] Lobby's power be curtailed? One would like to think so, given the Iraq debacle, the obvious need to rebuild America's image in the Arab and Islamic world, and the recent revelations about AIPAC officials passing U.S. government secrets to Israel. One might also think that Arafat's death and the election of the more moderate Abu Mazen would cause Washington to press vigorously and evenhandedly for a peace agreement. In short, there are ample grounds for U.S. leaders to distance themselves from the Lobby and adopt a Middle East policy more consistent with broader U.S. interests. In particular, using American power to achieve a just peace between Israel and the Palestinians would help advance the broader goals of fighting extremism and promoting democracy in the Middle East.

But that is not going to happen anytime soon. AIPAC and its allies [including Christian Zionists] have no serious opponents in the lobbying world. They know it has become more difficult to make Israel's case today, and they are responding by expanding their activities and staffs. Moreover, American politicians remain acutely sensitive to campaign contributions and other forms of political pressure and major media outlets are likely to remain sympathetic to Israel no matter what it does." <<Theodore E. The Israel Lobby

John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt

For the past several decades, and especially since the Six-Day War in 1967, the centrepiece of US Middle Eastern policy has been its relationship with Israel. The combination of unwavering support for Israel and the related effort to spread ‘democracy’ throughout the region has inflamed Arab and Islamic opinion and jeopardised not only US security but that of much of the rest of the world. This situation has no equal in American political history. Why has the US been willing to set aside its own security and that of many of its allies in order to advance the interests of another state? One might assume that the bond between the two countries was based on shared strategic interests or compelling moral imperatives, but neither explanation can account for the remarkable level of material and diplomatic support that the US provides.

Instead, the thrust of US policy in the region derives almost entirely from domestic politics, and especially the activities of the ‘Israel Lobby’. Other special-interest groups have managed to skew foreign policy, but no lobby has managed to divert it as far from what the national interest would suggest, while simultaneously convincing Americans that US interests and those of the other country – in this case, Israel – are essentially identical.

Since the October War in 1973, Washington has provided Israel with a level of support dwarfing that given to any other state. It has been the largest annual recipient of direct economic and military assistance since 1976, and is the largest recipient in total since World War Two, to the tune of well over $140 billion (in 2004 dollars). Israel receives about $3 billion in direct assistance each year, roughly one-fifth of the foreign aid budget, and worth about $500 a year for every Israeli. This largesse is especially striking since Israel is now a wealthy industrial state with a per capita income roughly equal to that of South Korea or Spain.

Other recipients get their money in quarterly installments, but Israel receives its entire appropriation at the beginning of each fiscal year and can thus earn interest on it. Most recipients of aid given for military purposes are required to spend all of it in the US, but Israel is allowed to use roughly 25 per cent of its allocation to subsidise its own defence industry. It is the only recipient that does not have to account for how the aid is spent, which makes it virtually impossible to prevent the money from being used for purposes the US opposes, such as building settlements on the West Bank. Moreover, the US has provided Israel with nearly $3 billion to develop weapons systems, and given it access to such top-drawer weaponry as Blackhawk helicopters and F-16 jets. Finally, the US gives Israel access to intelligence it denies to its Nato allies and has turned a blind eye to Israel’s acquisition of nuclear weapons.

QUOTE
This is the USS Liberty Memorial Web Site
honoring the memory of thirty four Americans
who were brutally killed by the Armed Forces of Israel
on June 8, 1967.

This web site is dedicated to the memory of thirty-four fine young men who gave their lives on June 8, 1967, defending the USS Liberty against a sustained air and sea attack by the armed forces of the State of Israel.
During the Six Day War between Israel and the Arab States, the American intelligence ship USS Liberty was attacked for 75 minutes in international waters by Israeli aircraft and motor torpedo boats. Thirty-four men died and 174 were wounded.

The attack, which was a war crime, has been a matter of controversy ever since. Survivors and many key government officials including Secretary of State Dean Rusk, former JCS Chairman Admiral Thomas Moorer, and nearly every senior American intelligence professional say it was no accident. Israel and its supporters insist it was a "tragic case of misidentification" and charge that the survivors are either lying or too emotionally involved to see the truth.

Israel claims they mistook our ship for the out-of-service Egyptian horse carrier El Quseir and that we brought the attack upon ourselves by operating in a war zone without displaying a flag. Not so. We were in international waters, far from any fighting, and flew a bright, clean, new American flag. The flag we flew when the torpedo boats approached is on display at the National Cryptologic Museum, Fort Meade, Maryland and can be seen there, or in the USS Liberty Images Archive. The flag we flew during most of the air attack will be permanently displayed at the Cold War Museum near Washington, DC.

Our commanding officer, Captain William Loren McGonagle, received the Congressional Medal of Honor for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty during the attack. The Congressional Medal of Honor is the highest award our country can bestow. To avoid embarrassing our attackers, Captain McGonagle's Medal of Honor was presented in a quiet ceremony in the Washington Navy Yard instead of in the White House by the President as is customary.

The USS Liberty Web Page presents part of the story along with some historical information and links to other sources.

Mind you that is the first one after Northwood I guess.

This isnt a new method you can go back to Rome and Nero burning it down and blaming it on christians then watching in glee as he enslaved them with public support and had them ripped apart by lions.

Reading the Ted Lang piece, one thing strikes me: Balance.

I think we need to balance reason and emotion as we look at 9/11 and engage in dissent.

To suggest that Israel is controlling policy is only partly true. With regard to 9/11 especially, we have to remember that a complex event, which is the result of a human conspiracy involving many different types of people, signifies a CONVERGENCE of interests: capitalist, militarist, imperialist, chauvinist, zionist, and so on and so forth.

The events of the last few months may also signify a CONVERGENCE of interests: elites that are tired of neocon imperialism because it has become malignant and therefore recognizable. If the establishment now views itself as incubating a tumorous aspect, it will want to contain and remove it under it's own CONTROL. This evolving convergence of interest, manifesting in distancing from the 'crazies', will have it's own fairly predictable course.

Looking at 9/11, and those parties involved, we see a convergence of the interests of a military industrial complex, international finance/big business, 'crazies', pro-Israeli lobbies, local NY elites involved in planning/ownership for the WTC etc, imperialist chauvinists, did I mention the crazies?, and so on.
9/11 false flag came together as the solution to at least a decade of concerns of the international cancer-capitalist class and those who identify with it. Now they will have had different parts to play, and still do, yet they come from different backgrounds. What is important for us here is that they chose to commit to an operation which signals their identification with an invested cause.

If you look at the recent work of Amartya Sen, he is talking about multiple identity. We all have facets that identify ourselves with others and can manifest in separate group-thinks. Someone can be a US citizen, member of the golf club, patriot, baseball fan, anarchist (just kidding), environmentalist, protectionist, and so on. The identities can include ones that parse as good or bad depending on the viewer. Multiple identities correlate with multiple selves: Stalin and his cronies were often great family men, when they were not killing/torturing their friends' families. The boy-king and his troop display a side, to all intents and purposes 'good', which has resonated with many since they took power.

So 9/11 inside signifies a convergence of interests but so does the foreign policy of the US. Think of it like a fluid yet substantive community of execrable elites who think they get lucky with a crafted solution to most of their problems. The identifications of this sub-group manifest through cooperation in everything from mainstream media control to military sub-contracting.

But these people have other identifications or identities at the same time. Probably, as they try to extricate themselves, they will look to distancing their part and labelling the more extreme elements of this sub-group: scapegoats. It might be, effectively, a good thing if they decide to identify with positive values they find within; yet we cannot let them compartmentalise and dismiss those aspects of their own behaviour for which they are responsible. Even if only for the sake of the higher education of our species, we have to cast the net as wide and deep as possible.

mongo,

I am in complete agreement with you. However, are you saying it's not possible for 1 group to have more power or sway than others?

Writers John Mearsheimer and Stephen Walt are of a high pedigree and experience when it comes to this topic. They are insiders, conservatives no less, and this is their claim. Did you read their paper?

I would venture to say that the majority here are aware that the reasons for 911 were complex and that there were overlapping interestes involved. We needn't be that perfect. Paralysis by analysis. When most people view Hitler do they say, 'yes, he destroyed much of Europe but he wasn't alone and there were others involved'. Doesn't this go without saying it?

The public at large is so politically correct that NOTHING gets done. It has long been known that we have problems with religious extremists here; abortion clinic bombings, birth control rights, racism, religion in public schools, etc, etc. But we are talking about 911. and we have to start somewhere.

Let's open it up for discussion.

I still say that until enough people are handing out flyers and DVD's to educate the masses NOTHING will happen because honest people in leadership type positions will not feel they have enough support to come forward. We have MORE than enough information to go after the perps but we need to get that information out there. This movement or whatever you want to call it should by now be moving towards activism as the fact gathering stage is complete for the most part.

What are we doing to spread the news? How many people are handing out DVD's and fliers? I can virtually guarentee that as many feds are watching this site and others like it, there are honest military leaders and politicians who are watching and waiting to make a move when they see we care enough.

Do we care enough yet?

Good question, Quest.

I certainly do and I know a lot of people who do but I've pointed out to many of them: YOU DON'T TAKE THIS SERIOUSLY ENOUGH. They don't yet get it that this is a matter of life and death. Ours and a lot of other people.

On the other hand, I think a lot of people in responsible positions who do know the truth are quite concerned. We are dealing with something very dangerous. For all we know, they could at this moment have mini-nukes stored in every major city in the country, just waiting for the detonation command. (I'm not saying this is so, only that, given who we are dealing with, it isn't outside the landscape of real possibilities. We could be dealing with the equivalent of a hostage situation.)

I firmly believe that our primary role is as you've stated to get information out to the rest of the world as fast as we can. I've been working at this for years and I see significant changes in just the past few months.

Just missed your last post Painter,

What I am asking is that we try to get a little more focused from an activism standpoint. How many people are spreading flyers and DVD's?

I am interested in getting us more organized and active. This also includes networking with other organizations.

What I propose is an online meeting with a core-group of members including the LC team of course, to exchange ideas.

What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea.

I'm wary of the word "organized" but that's just my 'old hippy' nature. Or, to put it another way, I especially appreciate the organic organization that seems inherent in nature. How does the saying go? The Universe is Fractal and Conscious • Fractals are Conscious and Universal • Consciousness is Universal and Fractal So, there is an inherent organization that is not 'top down' that we have to learn to trust. It, too, is very powerful and has been around a lot longer than we (or, specifically, Western Civilizaion with all its right angles) have.

TheQuest:

I'll try to address what you say and then ramble for a bit. It isn't directed at you.

I started to read the paper by the academics last week, got excited, printed it out, though haven't read it yet. I am a fan of Norman Finkelstein and other honest writers already. But to use an instance of how difficult it might be categorising 9/11 and it's wars as just part of a pro-Israeli meta-problem, I would point to the recent article on www.voltairnet.org/en (The Chomsky/Blankfort Polemic). It seems that the elite orientation towards satisfying the desires of Israel can be overstated. That is different from it being not stated at all in the corporate media, which would rather not air its unpleasant associations. Yet if the MSM (mainstream media) are pro-Israel, they are also pro-transnational capital, pro-polyarchy, pro-consumerism, pro-Anglo-Saxon, pro-chauvinism, pro-patriarchy, and so on and so forth.

Any operative pro-Zionist element manifest in the US policy community, I would argue, is a result of what I termed 'a convergence of interests'. The pro-Israeli faction are meeting the demands of the community at present. But so are the pro-military faction. Some dual-citizens may forget one aspect of their citizenship over others, but I think it is more likely that they would have a conjoining identification with a greater transnational project to expand a particular form of western capitalism. And it is that identification which would situate them and grant them policy-demand, and which matters here. So the oligarchy and its MSM may be positively nasty when agreeing on a pro-Israeli stance. But they are also, for example, negatively nasty when agreeing on an anti-environmental stance. So any singular identity that signifies their place in a corrupt network does not itself signify that network. They are, in a way, presently nodal, in their usefully rabid nationalism. But more importantly, for the long-run, the thing which incorporates them in the nexus is their individual embodiment of a value system created around the core value of money over life. This predetermines any agreements and placement they may have in policy formation in a changing community of interests.

However, this is not to say they have 'fixed' loyalties; far from it. They have the kind of loyalities, selves and identities, that can be dropped at the click of the handcuffs. These people, like the Stalinists, use each other all the time. People are a means to an end for them. They are superficial in their cross community identifications, murderously so, because they are morally shallow. But when threatened, a community can gel, forming a coherence for the sake of defending itself against a perceived threat: us and the truth. The uber-community can also cohere around a shared goal, and operate cooperatively for the sake of greed and mastery: 9/11 war. What would be bad for 9/11 dissent is if they started to control their own recognition.

The effective movement of securing Israeli interests, though ridiculously short-sighted, is one facet of that community which is currently operative in it's entailing ferocity. Chomsky may have some blind spots, and he is getting old, but the idea that Israel would be dropped from the program once it threatens the US project is pertinent. We still live in a society of states, and the oligarchs need a home to return to after their adventures of conquest.

So my point I guess, is this: the pro-Israeli faction have a role but it is debilitating to overstate it when trying to deal with a domestic problem. And domestic means complex, for us. And involving; not a simple matter of 'other' or an 'other associated' faction within.

The people who are mostly responsible for our problem are largely associated with us: they run our banks, our corporations, our government, our military and so on. They mostly manifest our key values, though in an negatively selfish and execrable fashion. The particularly evil, selfish and short-sighted ones, mostly responsible for 9/11 and it's wars, are a cancerous outgrowth of that big community at the top. But the fact that there is a CONTINUUM of some sort must be borne in mind.

If more people had been prepared to think bad about themselves (read honest), they may have been better prepared to think bad about their 'chosen' rulers. Those rulers are a perverted (or "PREverted" as the Sgt. in Dr Strangelove says) and extreme version of the guy next door (who is us). Therefore it is complex. Any over-simplification will work towards reductive, insufficient, partial, non-systemic, 'reform-only' solutions and scapegoating. It cannot be a question of good and bad, corrupt and non-corrupt, or those tied to Israel and those tied the US. That manichean disposition, so to say, is what they exploit in order to exploit: our fuel for their fires. There are some pro-Israel fanatics who probably would be shocked and disgusted if they found out the truth, and we will probably have to rely on them for inside information in catching those most responsible. So Lang's position is not holistic enough. One objective fact, say militant Zionism, cannot be allowed to stand in front of a more important objective fact: death profiteering. So "we have to start somewhere", but that somewhere is a group with multiple identities, like all international citizens at any level of privilege.

Thus, there will have to be a grey area around those most complicit, which allows for some sort of exchange, if we ever are to capture the true leaders/actioners of 9/11. Yet when we get the fokkers, we have to be honest if we recognise something of the greater society in them. Exactly what we seem to have forgotten and allowed to fester since Nuremburg. One of the first emotional thought blockers that dissenters face in approaching the consenters is the idea that some of 'ours' cannot be nazis.

There is also a downside to segregating with good intentions, possible in the pursuit of justice, and it revolves around any co-definitions of responsibility. No matter how many passports one has, the world of states in which we live determines the nature of the international legal solutions. It is 'our' state which incorporates 'our' statespeople. Treat them as 'us' and not 'others' and justice will run smoother and truer. International criminal courts notwithstanding, the dual citizen aspect may end up serving those who stand to benefit most from its falsely mitigating appeal.

Perhaps, TheQuest, the important part of what you say is "what are we doing". The above might read like mere philosophy, though I hope not. I hope to have made a few points about how we might 'look for' the conspirators in a way which doesn't isolate them before we've found them. You are right about 'politically correct' groupthink. The west has a particular problem in speaking honestly about Israel and the reasons are well studied though well ignored. The two academics have been allowed to open a valve. I hope that, vis-a-vis Lang, it doesn't include a filter. However, presently we have a problem with political correctness regarding 9/11 dissent. Guilt, inhibition, denial, conformity, fear and so on. Much to do. Take care.

Jon

This is great stuff, and I am glad we are all thinking about it.

I'll just say this and then leave it to try and catch up on reading about these fokkers.

Obviously, the obvious ones will never get away, as long as we breathe. But:

The protest movement based around anti-globablization/anti-capitalism was a serious threat. The matrix that birthed 9/11 crimewar pre-ordered the fear-control as well as the adventurists.

The leftwing movements have been blinded by their own ideas, unable to think in new and open ways. Thus they function(ed) as gatekeepers.

The next real crisis in the US may just be economic, one that has been on the academic books for at least a decade. The so-called 'internment camps' may turn out to be simply more prisons for the poor, except next time not just for the dark-skinned who use the wrong drugs but for those who associate global problems with local oligarchs.

The leftwing, though wrapped up in their own form of religious thought at present, still have a big chunk of the resources that systemic change requires: a commitment to economic democracy that is the death of the 9/11 matrix. Perhaps the shet will only hit the fan when the Left wake up, smell the coffee and pick up the ball of fire and run with it. Hold on to your knickers.

Here's something to peruse:

"To figure out who's at fault, just look at who's to gain."

The PNAC is indeed the root of all of this. It's the place to start.

You can find more information about the PNAC in "Rise of the Vulcans," an inside story written by a former PNAC member. Foreign Policy Vulcans is a nickname applied to the pre-emption zealots that now line the Bush administration, named after the Roman god "Vulcan," god of fire and maker of arms for Heaven.

The 9/11 Loose Change movie touches on something that always spooked me - it was far too convenient that the Neocons had moved into the Pentagon, and yet in all the places attacked on 9/11, the Pentagon was the one place to not lose a life. A wing just cleared a week before for renovations was struck dead center and nothing else was harmed. It was far too convenient that those who stood most to gain also lost nothing.

The Neocons have a long-documented history of assembling a plan that projects American dominance as far forward as possible in the absence of war by creating war. If the points about the Pentagon are to be believed, they further believe this projection of dominance will have to accept serious losses - just, none of their own. Those in the Pentagon and in the know were safe and secure, and those friends with the team were advised not to fly. But unknowing civilians were made martyrs for their cause. And now 17000 soldiers in Iraq are missing limbs or mentally impaired so that the Neocons can prove a point.

The motivations behind all this are complex though. For example, besides the most coordinated Neocons like Wolfowitz and Rice, there were those that were more out to prove military theory. Rumsfeld was part of a separate group that believed zealously in a "faster, stronger, lighter" military that used less armor and more speed to respond to modern military concerns. This light military theory is well documented by publications like The New Yorker as having recently taken our military command's structure by storm. One need only notice this zealous theory to realize why, above all, demands for more armor on Humvees and on troops are turned down and turned into political controversy - for Rumsfeld to say yes would be to admit he was wrong, and for him, would ruin the point of participating in this whole thing. For Rumsfeld and the rest who were heavily on board with proving this military theory to their past dissenting superiors, Iraq was the perfect proving ground and proving it meant everything.

I think money was a very secondary factor to all this - the idea that the $2.2billion made was the motivation is dubious, in light of the zealotry of the Neocons that were actually inside the administration with access to make this happen.

As for Bush, who was not an integral PNAC member, I really think he was the figure head the PNAC group saw as easiest to get them into office. I don't think he's as tightly integrated - if you ask me, Paul Wolfowitz was the one coordinating all this - look at the documentation in The New Yorker of how he manipulated the CIA via the Office of Special Programs. I think when Bush is famously sitting there in that children's classroom, getting news that the World Trade Center has been struck, he's clearly not angry. He's in shock - I say he's thinking, "Oh no... they finally did it."

He's in shock - I say he's thinking, "Oh shet... they finally did it."

I had lunch with 2 associates today and I said nearly the same thing to them!!

They were both doubters at the start, but after 2 hours of my lecture, they are also on board. Either that or they just wanted to get away from me.

In LC2e and the evidence link up top there's a screenshot of the members of PNAC we see Jeb Bush, Donald Rumsfield, and Dick Cheney circled...Now going to www.newamericancentury.org and opening up the "Rebuilding America's Defenses" article I see none of them in "project participants" also going back to the web site and clicking "about us" I see none of those names. My question is where did that screenshot come from? I can probably guess what happened, but did anyone catch this before?
[hmm]
