Title: Wrong Math In Lc2

EldenChang - October 3, 2006 02:34 PM (GMT)
I just wanted to point out that your Math in the LC2 is wrong.

In LC2 it states:
Time Squared = Distance Squared / Acceleration

Correctly would be:
Time Squared = 1/2 * Distance / Acceleration

There are actually several Mistakes in this formula, and since this is one of the most important facts of your story, you should correct these mistakes:

The orginal formula where the time derives from is:

s = 1/2 * g * t^2

s= distance
t= time
g=acceleration

Solved for t, this results in:

t = Square Root of (2 * s / g)

I also would suggest to use both, Metric and US units:

For FEET:
hight s = 1368 feet
g = 32 ft/sec^2

t = Square Root ( 2 * 1,368 / 32.2)
t = 9.2 seconds

For Meters
hight s = 417 meters
g = 9.81 m/sec^2

t = Square Root ( 2 * 417 / 9.81)
t = 9.2 seconds

I hope this will make it in to the next cut.

this is the "formula" to what building collapse?

EldenChang - October 3, 2006 05:31 PM (GMT)
Yes, this is the correct formula, explaining the FALL of any item in gravitation without air, like Vacuum fall.

i still dont understand, are you saying fema was wrong in their times of collapse?

sorry if im a little slow.

No, I am saying the Outcome of your calculations are Correct.

Free fall happens in 9.2 Seconds from the hight of the WTC towers.

However, the way the formula is presented in LC2 is wrong.
And if you make such a mistake on such an important issue, it could leave a wrong impression.

Just a suggestion.

Note that that formula is in fact the integral of the velocity over time, i.e.

the primitive of V(t)=gt is 1/2 * g * t^2, basic math/physics

Decider, what he's basically saying is that the equation in LC2 was mistyped. EldenChang, i believe you're correct. [cheers]
