When they finally found their way outside (Tas got them lost once or twice along the way), it was a beautiful afternoon. The sun shone bright over the soft ripples of the lake's surface, though the day wasn't terribly hot. Well-kempt and a gorgeous shade of green, the grass from the grounds was soft under Anastas's feet as he half-ran across the grounds towards the lake.

He stopped near the water's edge and spun around to look at his roommate, realizing he probably should have stopped to make sure Xak was following a bit earlier, but oh well. He probably was and it wasn't the end of the world even if he hadn't been.

"Isn't it pretty? It even has falls and a river," he announced cheerfully, verbalizing his approval of the lake loudly as he looked around again.

((*coughs* Sowwy if I need to change it- lemme know if I do.))

((It's fine ^w^))

Xak's breath caught in his breath for an instant at the sight of the lake. He'd seen the oacean form a plane and been in many pools. But he couldn't recall actually seing a natural lake like this. . . It was gorgeous. He followed Tas at a half-jog, a grin on his face.

He couldn't wait to get the gloves of and enter the water. He stopped behind Tas and noded. "Its's. . . amazing. . . "

Falls and a river? This place just kept getting better and better. He dropped his bag and removed his gloves, dropping them on his bag and putting a foot in the water. The water was cool, but not freezing.

Anastas laughed at the statement as he dropped his towel on the ground and put his keys where he could find them easily enough, but also where they probably fall off or whatever might happen. After he was certain that they were, he ran over to the water and rushed in without caring how cold it was, almost reduced to a blur of splashing water and childish exuberance. By the time he stopped, waist deep, and turned around to look at Xak he was thoroughly soaked.

"The water's not too cold, either," he said cheerfully, even though Xak had already tested the water and knew this.

Xak smiled, then followed his roommate into the refreshing water. As soon as it was deep enough he submerged his body and shot forward, swimming as though in a race. This felt good. The excitement of the move, the stress of it, the new and unfamiliar energies surrounding this place. . . Xak seemed to have managed to absorb all of it and he was determined to get rid of as much as possible. He decided he was goign to start wearing long sleeves and pants as much as possible until he could learn how to control this . . . . gift. He had trouble calling it that. This power of his still seemed like a curse.

He kicked at the water hard, throwing his arms in front of him and pushing back, speeding through the water quickly. He turned around and zoomed back towards the shallower water. he stopped and stood when he could touch again.

Anastas watched the other boy for a few moments, amused, before setting out on his own version. He preferred to venture more into the deeper water and lunge after fish rather than swimming in straighter lines. Tas was really better at doing tricks like flips and hand-stands under water than just swimming for the fun of it. It was why he liked deeper water to shallow- there was more room between the surface and the bottom to do stuff like that.

The boy surfaced again, staying in place and keeping his head above water as he tried to think how to catch the fishies better. Not that he wanted to catch them for good or anything, just keep them from swimming away whenever he got close enough to see 'em. Grinning to himself he dived down again, casting out a web of inky-black around one of the fish. It just swam away faster than before. Ah well, guess he wasn't good at capturing more than light.

Xak looked around to find his roommate, pushing his wet hair out of his eyes. He found the other boy trying unsuccessfuly to catch fish. He watched him produce more darkness and admired the fact that he could control it. He decided he would ask later how you learned to control the powers.
But not now. He retunred to the water with enthusiasm, kicking hard, trying to tire himself out.
He reached deep and kickedas hard as he could, pushing back with his arms to shoot forward. . . . And he felt something happen. He opened his eyesto see what was going on. He felt as though he'd been holding his breatha nd he'd just released it. He went to the surface andlooked at the water, watching fish flee before him as though something were chasing them. plants parted as well . . . something invisible was definitely moving through the water. then he saw it. It wasn't invisible, but it was a shimmering ball.
A ball of energy.
Xak stared at it as it zoomed away and slowly dissapated.
He finally felt tired again for the first time in awhile. It felt wonderful. He layed back in the water, floating on his back.

Anastas giggled at the fish as they continued swimming away. In the back of his mind he knew that if they were tropical, colorful fish he'd probably be more willing to try harder to catch them- but this was a temperate zone. They weren't quite as colorful.

Surfacing for long enough to catch his breath again, he glanced over at his roommate to see the other boy floating on his back instead of swimming. Tas decided to give up his hunt for the elusive fishies and swam back to the other boy, pausing when he get there as he remembered not to touch him.

"Watcha doing? Not tired a'ready, are you?" he asked happily, bobbing slightly as he kept himself in the same place.

Xak glanced at Tas, making sure to not flip over. "Actually I am . . . " He said in a slow voice. "I dunno . . . something just happened. . . . I shot a ball of energy or something. . . " He muttered, shutting his eyes. "I'm fine, just need to rest a minute . . . . " He wasn't entirely sure he was fine though. He'd released the energy again and once again he wasn't entirely sure how. But it appeared as though he'd released an awful lot for him to be this tired.
Xak couldn't remember ever being this tired.
Gradually he began to feel a little better.

Anastas paused at the statement, "Maybe you should head over to the shore, then..." he said uncertainly. "If you ended up drowning I might not be the best person to trust to keep that from happening." He could probably keep Xak from sinking, but wasn't sure. And if Xak did suck out people's energy from all of him, well, that'd just end up with one person without energy trying to save someone who might be getting too little too late.
That could end badly.

"And did you mean to shoot it off like that? It seems like it wasn't really the greatest idea."

"I'm fine." Xak said, starting to feel much better now. he wondered if he was sucking energy from Tas . . . that worried him.
"Huh? No. I didn't mean to. It just happened. . . like last time. I really wish I knew how to control the stupid thing . . . " He flipped over and began to tread water, gaining energy by the second.

"Umm . . . I think I might be draining your energy though . . . so I'm gonna go over here. . . "Tas turned and swam away. this was bad. He would have to swim alone and remain completely covered at all other times if things continued like this.

"Yeah... it'd be easier if you could control it. Then, maybe, you could give energy to people as well as take it," he paused and smiled at the idea. Xak would probably be hit up for energy whenever people had to stay up late studying for a test then. That would be funny.

Anastas stifled a yawn as his roommate swam away, wanting to deny the suggestion even as he knew that he couldn't honestly. He felt guilty about it, because he had figured out how to control his powers a bit and Xakary's were harmful to people and he wasn't good with controlling it at all. Knowing that there wasn't much he could do only made Tas feel a bit worse about it. "I don't mind," he mumbled too softly for Xak to hear, not sure what else to say.

Xak heard the yawn and mentally hated himself. He decided he couldn't stay with Anastas right now or the poor kid would faint. He decided his body had gone on overdrive collecting energy because of how much he lost. He needed to get covered up and isolated NOW.
"Um . . . I think I'm gonna head back up the dorm." he said. "You can stay here. . . "
he swam towards shore where hisbag was with a heavy heart. How was he ever supposed to figure out how to control this thing?
He got out and removed his towel from his bag, drying off and not looking at tas.

Anastas floated for a few minutes after Xakary's decision, the meaning not really sinking in until the boy had gotten out his towel. With a flurry of limbs he hurried back to the shore, shaking his head and spluttering denial.

"No, definitely not, um, I mean, you wanted to come here first- I'll just go instead, you shouldn't have to or nothing, I can go back, if you'd rather," he said rather firmly before grabbing his own towel and keys, glancing uncertainly at his roommate. "I mean, unless you really-" he stopped, shaking his head.

"No." Xak said firmly. "I need some time alone to try to practice with this thing. . . " He gestured at the lake. "here I'm even affecting the fish . . . look at them." It was true. The fish were floating lszily now close to the surface. A few not moving at all. "I'm gonna go and practice or something. . . maybe find someone that can help . . . I dunno. Just . . . uh . . . knock before you come in when you come back, I'm not sure what's going to happen."

Xak felt weird . . . He felt afraid. What if he drained all his energy and died? Or absorbed all the energy in the school and killed everyone else? What would happen to his body if he did that? Woud he explode? All he knew is he needed to learn how to control this thing. And better now than later. he slun his towel over his bag and shouldered te bag, heading back to the school.

"I... um..." he mumbled, not sure what to say in reaction to that, not really liking it but also not having anything to say. He had learned control through practice- Xak couldn't very easily practice stealing and releasing energy. Not easily, at least. It risked hurting people too much, until he could create mini black holes, Tas wasn't much of a risk.

'Guess I'll just go and bug Set,' he thought vaguely, glancing back out at the lake for a minute. "See you later, then," Anastas called before sitting down on the grass for a few minutes, not sure what else to say. It really wasn't how he meant things to happen. Anastas really regretted going to the lake with him, now.
