(I can delete this topic if people so desire me to, and I put it in the 'Sensitive Subjects' part to be safe).

Five years already...

We will remember those who died, and think of those in mourning.

It's midnight here, and September 11th (time zones and all), and burning the midnight oil, as I left an 1800 word essay to the very, very last day (yesterday). It had to be due in Sept 11th, and I just kept thinking of 2001, to the point of distraction. If it had been due on any other day, I promise that I would definitely have had started on it a darn long time ago.

Do you hear the people sing?
Lost in the valley of the night.
It is the music of a people who are climbing to the light.
For the wretched of the Earth, there is a flame that never dies.
Even the darkest night will end, and the sun will rise.

We Will Remember.

--------------------
Who will wake them? No one ever will...

Too soon, too young to die.
Lamenting, we weep, cry:
Too soon, too young to die.

Someone used to cradle them and kiss them when they cried...

"But...what are you doing here?!" Woman Two exclaimed. "Or are you all Marius in disguise?"

I was in 5th grade. When it happened I was in gym class playing with my friends and we heard the gym teachers talking about something and they were like "do you think it was Osama" and of course I had no idea who Osama was or what a terrorist was. So then we went back to our regular class and the teachers weren't supposed to say what was going on, but when a ton of kids started getting picked up early by their parents, we were all curious, so my teacher told us what happened and he was like "terrorists flew planes into buildings" and everone was like "what's a terrorist?" so we looked it up in a dictionary. I didn't think of how serious or bad it was. I was like "Planes in buildings? cool!' I didn't think about people inside the buildings, then when my mom picked me up from school early, I went home and watched the news and relized that a lot of people died.

I was in year nine (same thing as grades in US-so, grade nine), and the first time I found out about it was at lunchtime, and happened to be passing through a classroom where the english teacher was telling a kid off. The tv was on, and students were crowded around it, watching what was happening onscreen. I could hardly bear to watch the news that night. sad.gif

I was sick at home. When my mom called me to tell me what was happening I turned on the news and was shocked. I held the phone up to the TV speaker for her. At school, everything just stopped, and people crowded around TV's with rabbit ears picking up Fox News. It was just horrific.
I think the heart of America stopped beating for those few breathless moments.
But it started back up stronger than ever.

That day I also was at home. I felt bored so I turned on CNN to practice my English. What I saw was unbelievable. At first I was sure that I see an earthquake or so, but then I clearly heard the word "terrorists". I just stared at the screen and still couldn't believe. Then in the evening news everyone was talking just about it and showing the planes crashing the towers again and again. The next day there were many demonstrations of solidarity with the Americans and everyone was wondering if Poland could be attacked as well.

I was in third grade back then...just moved back from New York City almost exactly from the year before. I was and currently am in the Pacific, so by the time I woke up early for school, it was earlier. I even cried in class-the memories of my friends and what had happened to them really got to me. Sometimes, I wonder currently, where are they now and how'd they deal with this...I knew people whose parents worked in there, and it's somewhat depressing to think about.

People killed on 9/11: about 2,900
Americans, including civilians, killed in Iraq as of 9/11/06: about 3,100

Administration estimate of Iraqi dead: about 20,000
Independent estimates of Iraqi dead: as high as 100,000

Well I was in 4th grade(In Australia) and I remember it being all over the TVs and there was this weird feeling in the atmosphere all day. Everyone knew what had happened but didn't know what to say.

I was in 2nd grade. I walked into class and everyone was freaking out. When I was younger, I was really...sheltered (would naïve be a better word??) . I had no clue what was going on, my parents had to explain it to me when I got home.
