Vargas felt a strong hand wrench him back by the collar, and make him sit. The hound's only consolation was a leather-gloved hand stroking his ears while Gracie packed her things.
"We didn't really bring much, so the girls and I are ready to go as soon as you are. Should I go ahead and call the carriage?" |

"Sounds great I'm almost done here so it shouldn't be much longer," she turned and scratched under Vargas' chin.

"You behave," said the wizard privately to Vargas, and this disappeared from the room to secure their transportation. Naleth and Narith soon replaced his presence though, appearing in their 'travel clothes.' Both girls opened their mouths to speak, saw Vargas, and then slowly backed away and out of the room.
"M-M-Mistress..." called Naleth from the wall across from Gracie's room's door. "C-Can we speak with you? Out here." |

Naleth looked away and Narith simply downcast her head. As Vargas turned to face them the girls practically quivered in their shoes and fixed Gracie with apologetic looks. |

Gracie was at a loss for words, she had really hoped she could have Vargas in the carriage with them, but now...she didn't know what to do. Why didn't Darcia tell her this? She was pretty sure he knew too."

"Oh...Right..." was the response that they got five minutes later when Darcia returned. "I suppose you'll just have to put up with it for awhile. We can stop along the way more often than we did the first time, and Vargas can sit with Gracie, you two may sit with me."
Narith's answer was hiding her head in Darcia's shoulder like a little girl would hold on to her blanket. Naleth, the elder, sucked it up a bit better and nodded, at least partially satisfied. "Everyone happy?" said the wizard, throwing a questioning look about the room. |
