I'm new to the zilla's and my bike needs a rebuild, where's the best place to go.
I want it to go fast! I bought it used, with moter blowed up. Any help?
Its really nice almost like new, but the piston is stuck and won't move. Got it for 200 bucks from my neighbors dad, who bought it new in 89.
Its cherry man.

How much money are you looking to spend to go fast?
Duncan Racing charges $595.00 for a complete tear down and reassembly.

--------------------
My Zilla: an 87 with a Uni air filter, no air box lid, a '90 carb with 25 pilot jet, 340 main jet, Vesrah clutch, OEM 10 over piston, B8ES plug, Boyesen reeds, Klemm research pipe, FMF turbine core muffler, 40 tooth rear sprocket, 20 inch holeshots, and a 13 tooth front sprocket.

Here it is.

595 for a whole moter that's cheap, where's ct at?

I was expecting to spend about 3-4k on one.
As soon as I get my camera back from the shop, I'll get some pics of it.
I mean this thing looks brand new, paint is cherry, no rub marks at all.
All the oe stickers on it, factory tool kit, etc.
The guy forgot to mix the gas and oil in it he said! It s been in a barn covered with
a old canvas tarp for all these years, probably 19 years or so.

Not for rebuilding. CT wants $1145 for porting, head rechamber, piston kit, top-end gasket set, Delta V-Force reed cage, 39PWK carburetor, throttle cable, and pipe/silencer. Duncan wants $1499 for PTR Pipe, Fat Boy 2 Silencer, NATIONAL or ELIMINATOR Porting, Powerhead, Pyramid Reed Valves, Pre-Jetted Keihin 39mm PWK Carburetor, Jet Kit, K&N Filter, T-Shirt, Instructions, and Tech Support. Tudors wants $835 for a Coolhead, V-Force reeds, clutch kit, and carb. Those are the only ones I can think of right now, and some more offer parts, but no kits.

Awesome! I look forward to them!

Oh boy. That's not going to be cheap. You probably need at least:
Piston
Rings
Wrist pin clips
Rod kit
Main bearings
Main bearing seals
Gasket kit
Spark plug
Bore
I'd also replace the:
Wrist pin
Wrist pin bearing
Wrist pin washers

Damn! Maybe you shouldn't use it? unsure.gif

I will search around before I drop all my money in one spot.

I have been reading about the wrist thrust washers or something like that and replacing them with some luminum ones, any idea what that is for?

thanks for your help
this isn't much info on these bikes out there.

The stock thrust washers are hardened steel, and if they break, they will take a lot of other stuff with them. Not pretty. Making ones out of aluminum would not be difficult for a machine shop. You will need a different wrist pin bearing though.

Wow i havent been here in a while, was just looking things over again since Im starting to rebuild my bike. ( that thread will be started soon )

So Im looking around and come across this thread, look at all the help Kyle is giving this Dude ( howdy btw fast lt ) and quadster all you can do is redirect him to another place where he can get in line to kiss Qs ass.

Fast LT take one night and go threw a bunch of old threads, all the info is probably already in here, just keeps getting recycled.

sup Kyle, ya Ive been a lil busy with life, Ive still been riding just not too much wrenchin since my Zilla is so reliable. wink.gif Good to see theres still a few people in here

i still read some therads here and there but dont have much to add, since I only do this for fun, Im more of a rider, im getting there with the mechanics, but the heavy motor stuff i leave to one of my pro buddies ( I will leave his name out as to not pull his good name into my sinking ship )

My 87s actually been really good, but the last 2 seasons have destroyed all my bearings and shit, right now the whole bike is apart, just got the frame back today all sand blasted.
Just got a box full of parts in the mail, alls left to do now is clean it up, paint some stuff and put it back together,, the motor is in GREAT shape though, it was running beaut when I pulled it apart but its been running for 4 hard seasons so I figured time to rebuild b4 it blows up..

Im gonna put it up as I do it, looking for ideas all around

Yeah. An engine can be a complicated machine. You'll see it done and you'll get the idea of how it's done.

Hey Kyle
ya Im restoring my Zilla

Well so far I have my frame all sandblated and ready for primer, The motor is out and at the shop getting bearings and new rod, the rest of the bottom end and gears should all be good, it came out of my machine running mint.
The jug and head are still in great shape, re-hone and a new top end +.040 is planned, nothing over the top, but reliable.
I got all the frame bearings and new U joints waitin to be put on.
A arms primed and ready for paint

I sand blasted my spindles and guard,,Got some misc cleaning and blasting to do on some small stuff other than that should be a nice put back together, same radiator, breaks , carb, everythings was perfect when I took it apart ,

it just needed all new frame bearings all the way around and the motor had 4 good seasons on it, and i pushed that motor hard so I figured just take it all apart at once.

I got pics I just have to re-learn how to post pics, Im sure theres a thread on here already explaining how , just got to go look.

Any ideas lay em out there ??

Take your picture, put it on your computer, upload it to photobucket, and hyperlink it to here. If you need any help with any of that, post it and I'll walk you through it.

Blasted frame

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u262/burnsz/100_0344.jpg

Look at the pegs in this pic, Does the right peg looked pitch down at all, looks a lil to me so Im gonna bend it back up and weld a gusset to help it, heavy landings sometimes, the frame looks good NO cracks anywher, well 2 lil ones thats it !! thatll be he last pic

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u262/burnsz/100_0342.jpg

http://i170.photobucket.com/albums/u262/burnsz/100_0334.jpg

Im thinking about all the original LT color scheme except for the frame being a deep red,
