the COOLANT hadn't been in the bike too long. The guy told me that it blew the head gasket cause he used the old one and he parked it after that. I got all the coolant out as soon as i got the motor off the bike. and are up sure the thrust washers are in there? Cause i don't see any. I'm not questioning you i'm just double checkin. I'm still learnin.

That worries me. How did water get in there? And it blew a head gasket because it wasn't a new one? Maybe that was the problem.
Yeah, I'm sure. The washers don't really do anything. They just sit there on the outside of the bearing. They don't center the rod at all really. -------------------- My Zilla: an 87 with a Uni air filter, no air box lid, a '90 carb with 25 pilot jet, 340 main jet, Vesrah clutch, OEM 10 over piston, B8ES plug, Boyesen reeds, Klemm research pipe, FMF turbine core muffler, 40 tooth rear sprocket, 20 inch holeshots, and a 13 tooth front sprocket.
Here it is. |

i'm not 100% sure how all the water got in there, but when i pulled the drain plug, a good 2 or 3 seconds worth of water come out before oil. The guy said he had about 20 hours on the rebuild but used the old head gasket. I can probably get you a good pic of the head gasket. But would that cause all the water in the case? So if the washers are there, i shouldn't have any up and down play on the bearing? And then what about side to side?

Maybe he used straight water?
Up and down, no. If you hold the big end of the rod steady, the small end should move side to side no more than 3mm. -------------------- My Zilla: an 87 with a Uni air filter, no air box lid, a '90 carb with 25 pilot jet, 340 main jet, Vesrah clutch, OEM 10 over piston, B8ES plug, Boyesen reeds, Klemm research pipe, FMF turbine core muffler, 40 tooth rear sprocket, 20 inch holeshots, and a 13 tooth front sprocket.

what would straight water do compared to coolant? I'll have to check the play out and let you know.

Rust internals faster. Coolant in the engine worries me less than water in the engine. How did it get there?
Of course, if you're going to replace the crank, that doesn't matter. Measure the new one. -------------------- My Zilla: an 87 with a Uni air filter, no air box lid, a '90 carb with 25 pilot jet, 340 main jet, Vesrah clutch, OEM 10 over piston, B8ES plug, Boyesen reeds, Klemm research pipe, FMF turbine core muffler, 40 tooth rear sprocket, 20 inch holeshots, and a 13 tooth front sprocket.

i'm not sure how all the water got in there. There was some coolant, but you could tell that it was mostly water. My guess would be it probably got in there from the water pump seal and having the blown head gasket.
