Chisoku was pretty useful, despite the way Kazuo treated him. However, Kazuo had no longer felt that sudden burst of love for his Pokémon that he once did. Maybe it was something in the air, he didn't know. He just knew that his Pokémon were not creatures to him, with feelings and morals, but merely powerful tools. He could buy and sell them, steal them, upgrade them for more power versions, etc. They were nothing but the product of man's constant need of battle and war. The Deities bestowed Pokémon upon them as a last source of ultimate power, and using these tools, Kazuo would obtain said power. He use to be an atheist, not believing in Gods or fate, but after seeing this amulet that he received from the bus, he was beginning to think that the greater powers were seeing the unlocked potential within him and were guiding him to victory.

First, he would have to use Team Rocket for all they were worth to him. As soon as he expended all their resources, such as police cover and a chance to kill for money, he'd destroy them and take over their organization. It wasn't something he was necessarily proud of. After all, even Kazuo knew that he should be thankful to Team Rocket, but his life plan had no room for anyone other than him and his Pokémon, so they would have to be dealt with sooner or later. Most likely later, especially if there existed stronger members than Jewel in Team Rocket. Pulling on Chisoku's neck, Kazuo skidded to a halt and looked around him. They had left the ruins that was once Fleet Town and were now on a rather flourished pathway. Pokémon would be around here, perhaps even ones that migrated from Fleet Town. He needed a powerful Pokémon.

"Alright, Chisoku, Kaeru, be on the lookout for a Psychic Pokémon in particular, but any Pokémon stronger than you will do. Help me look." Kazuo muttered as he tossed Kaeru's Pokéball into the air and watched his Mudkip come out before him and Chisoku.

The immediate area was still grassy and relatively lush, but in the distance it became rapidly drier and more barren, the grass thinning out to expose bare earth and rock. Chisoku trotted forward slowly, peering down into the tall grass to see what it might hold. Kaeru happily frolicked around the bird's feet, darting off to the side of the path to rustle around in the grass herself, looking for anything that might want to play. A few pokemon were in evidence this far from fleet town:

- A stunky snuffled around near the path, clawing periodically at the dry earth and sniffing at the areas it had dug up.

- Two whismur were relaxing in the shade of a scraggly tree, paying Kazuo and his team no attention.

- Kaeru stuck her head into a hole near the edge of the path, only to back off hastily as a sandshrew stuck its head up out of the ground and hissed at her.

- Overhead, a few bird pokemon circled, although they were quite high up and it was hard to tell what kind they were; however, the way they were flying and the shapes of their wings indicated that they were predators.

Kazuo smirked. Three chances to get three good Pokémon. The Whismur were of no concern to him and would prove nothing less than worthless to even Team Rocket. With the others around, however, he could sell them off for a pretty penny, maybe even better. Taking out his third PokéBall, Kazuo tossed it into the air to let out his Zubat. He had no time to play around, so he figured he would simply have each of his Pokémon take out a selected target. Firstly, he would turn his attention to the Stunky. Kazuo knew how fond of Poison and Dark type Pokémon Team Rocket was, so a Pokémon with both combinations would prove to be a worthy prize.

"Chisoku, use Quick Attack to ram into that Stunky, try to get it airborne. When and if you do, grasp both of it's front legs with your heads and slam it into the ground. Be wary of counter attacks." Kazuo ordered, and Chisoku gave a nod before bursting towards the Stunky with breakneck speed, it's image blurred within a white trail of light. With that order complete, Kazuo turned his attention to Kaeru.

"Don't let it startle you, Kaeru! Use a Mud Slap into it's eyes, try to blind it. Then, ram into the point where it's neck meets it's shoulders with a Tackle!" Kazuo ordered. Kaeru, still infatuated with Kazuo after his heart-felt words, chirped in agreement and proceeded to perform her attacks. Kazuo sighed. Now he would have to leave the hardest battle to his weakest Pokémon. This bat hardly came through in any type of battle.

"Koumori, rise up and pick out the smallest bird of that flock up there, then use a Supersonic. Take advantage of your element of surprise and follow up with a Astonish! Go!" Kazuo snapped and Koumori jumped and nodded, before fluttering up towards the group of birds.

(( Going to assume that Kazuo got off Chisoku at some point, there. ))

Chisoku was the first to strike, charging straight into the stunky and kicking the smaller pokemon flying. It skidded unceremoniously in the dust but picked itself up fast enough, hissing at Chisoku. Then, abruptly, it turned its back on the bird, stamping its feet irritably in the dust and raising its tail. No doubt, Chisoku had an idea of what was coming, for he looked about to retreat, but it was too late--the stunky released a cloud of foul-smelling poisonous gas that swiftly enveloped the doduo. Chisoku gagged and groaned, looking revolted and physically ill.

Kaeru's attack was less successful. There was no real mud in the area, but she happily kicked dirt into the sandshrew's face instead. The ground-type squeaked with annoyance and ducked its head to avoid the attack, but was relatively unfazed. As soon as Kaeru stopped, it bolted out of its hole and swiped at the mudkip's face with its tiny claws, leaving bleeding gashes across the mudkip's blue skin. Kaeru responded by tackling it to the ground.

Koumori, unfortunately, didn't have the stamina to reach the level of the other bird pokemon. Its leathery wings flapped wildly, but the bat was not made for high-altitude flight and the sunlight, even obscured by dark clouds as it was now, sapped the bat's strength. He fluttered uselessly around under the birds, none of which seemed inclined to come down to challenge the zubat at its own level.

((Oh, I'm sorry, when you said that Chisoku was poking around in the grass, I assumed that he had let Kazuo off to go search. My bad. >_<))

Kazuo had never been so furious with a creature in all of his life. Again and again that useless bat had proving to be nothing but dead weight inside of his PokéBall. Oh, how he wanted to just take out Silencio and carve into the bastard, but he restrained himself, repeating that it'd be much more profitable to sell it instead. He pulled out Koumori's PokéBall and recalled the bat, before placing the PokéBall back upon his belt.

"Useless, always useless...Chisoku, catch the Sandshrew off guard with a Quick Attack! Kaeru, use a diving tackle into the area that Chisoku kicked on the Stunky, then use a Mud Slap on the dirt to try and blind it! Operation Battle Swap!" Kazuo called. Chisoku was coughing from one of it's head, most likely poisoned, but they both nodded and proceeded forth. For the sake of not wanting to deal with Kazuo's anger afterwards, Chisoku swallowed his illness and used a Quick Attack towards the Sandshrew, mixing in a Peck to both add damage and impress his trainer. Kaeru rushed off, obediently pull off her order by jumping into the air and diving towards the injured Stunky.

Chisoku was a bit unsteady on his feet, but thus far the poison hadn't had enough time to affect him badly. He easily tore free of the rapidly-dispersing toxic cloud and shot off towards the sandshrew, barely giving Kaeru time to dive out of the way. His quick attack sent the sandshrew rolling across the ground, but rolling was one thing that the ground-type did well--curling into a ball, it allowed itself to be knocked away, then uncurled and leapt at Chisoku with a screech, claws at the ready. A bit startled, the doduo fell back as the sandshrew started swiping at his legs.

The stunky grunted as Kaeru threw herself into it, and was a bit sluggish to respond. Nevertheless, it showed off its claws as well, carving another gash into the water-type's face. Wincing, Kaeru again kicked at the ground, sending loose earth into the stunky's face, but the poison-type didn't even notice. Its eyes were closed, and it stood in a serene, untroubled pose, almost as though it were meditating.

Kazuo perked a brow as he watched how the Sandshrew and Stunk handled themselves. Sandshrew seemed to know it's limit in battle and what it could take advantage of. Using this knowledge, it made full use of his opponent's own attacks to give himself both speed and power. A Tactician type. The Stunky seemed to battle with a will stronger than it's own attacks, pushing it's own spirit past the physical pain and defending it's honor with it's own brute force mixed with mental supremacy. A Berserker type. Both seemed to be needed on his team, what with his Speedster-type Chisoku and Balance-type Kaeru. All he needed now was an Elemental-type and a Fortress-type. That would make up the perfect team. However, if on his future journey, he'd find better substitutes for any of his teammates, he'd be sure to replace them, like the tools they were.

"Chisoku, jump into the air and dive down with a Quick Attack and Peck Combination, then rush around the Sandshrew with a Quick Attack! Kaeru, while it's still contemplating, ram underneath it with Tackle, then buck it into the air and hit it while it's airborne with a ramming headbutt. It has less chance of dodging in the air!" Kazuo ordered and they nodded in agreement. Chisoku used his super legs to push himself high into the air, to both avoid Sandshrew's scratches and to gain altitude, then pushed it's weight forth and did a sort of spin with it's twin beaks out, before accelerating with a Quick Attack. Kaeru rushed forth as Stunky had it's eyes close, and slid towards it's underbelly to try and lift it.

Chisoku's flashy airborne combo didn't go exactly to plan; it was difficult for the doduo to accelerate in midair, and the attack was difficult to aim, what's more. He ended up missing the sandshrew entirely and landing with his beaks lodged firmly int the ground. The ground-type began scratching at the bird's face as he struggled to pull free, fighting the creeping fatigue of poison as he tried to wrench himself free by brute force. At last the bird manage to pull both his beaks out of the earth and take off with a quick attack, speeding around the sandshre as ordered. The ground-type looked a bit confused but, at a loss for what else to do, simply rolled up into a ball as Chisoku darted around him, presenting its armored hide as a shield against whatever the doduo wanted to try.

Kaeru started towards the stunky, aiming to deal a low blow, but the poison-type was fairly stocky and low-slung to begin with, and the mudkip couldn't easily force her way under it and then up. As it was, she ended up crashing into the stunky's legs. Its eyes snapped open immediately, and with a snarl it slashed her across the face again. This attack apparently had more bite than the previous ones, as Kaeru reeled back, shaking her head momentarily. The stunky didn't hesitate to follow up one scratch with another, and Kaeru blindly tackled it in response, face now rather mangled from repeated scratchings.

Kaeru was a true warrior. Even with all those wounds upon her face, she still fought with the same intensity as she did when the battle commands were first given. It was this blind devotion that would lead to Kazuo becoming a grand powerhouse. With more powerful Pokémon like Kaeru following his shadow in a loyal stupor, how could Kazuo not obtain ultimate control? Snapping his mind back to the battle, he saw how Chisoku had messed up slightly and was paying the price for it. They didn't need to do much, just a little more before Kazuo would try and capture them both. He looked down at Koumori's PokéBall. Maybe with Chisoku taking the brunt of the attacks, it could be somewhat useful. Deciding to try one more time, Kazuo tossed the bat's portable containment device into the air, watching him come forth with a flutter of it's wings.

"Koumori, use a Supersonic on the Sandshrew, then fly over and catch the Stunky off guard with an Astonish. Chisoku, take advantage of Koumori's diversion and land a multitude of Pecks on Sandshrew. Use Quick Attack to add speed and power behind them by focusing the Quick Attack to your heads. Kaeru, if and when Stunky flinches, or if it's attention is diverted, rush in for a Tackle, then try and pin it's body to the ground. Koumori, keep a distance away from both of these Pokémon, I don't need you fainting on me again." Kazuo said. Koumori felt the scorn in his usually emotionless voice and knew that Kazuo couldn't stand the sight of him at the moment. However, Koumori still wanted to prove himself. He fluttered towards the Sandshrew, keeping a good distance away and let out waves of sonic screeches towards it as Chisoku tried to pull himself free and Kaeru was awaiting her part of the plan.

Koumori let out a high-pitched whine, bombarding the curled-up sandshrew with wave upon wave of sonic distortion. What effect it might be having on the ground-type was unclear, as the sandshrew showed no sign of unrolling. A bit uncertain, Chisoku tried pecking at the sandshrew. He didn't seem to be making much headway, as his beaks merely rebounded from the sandshrew's yellow armor. To make matters worse, he didn't really know how he was supposed to put the energy of a quick attack into his pecks; instead, he just tried pecking faster. The sandshrew remained resolutely curled up.

Uncertain about his last attack but not wanting to waste time, Koumori left the sandshrew behind and swooped down at the stunky at a startling speed. The poison-type hardly seemed affected, however, and merely turned lazily to face the zubat, then lunged and slashed out with its claws, smacking Koumori to the ground. The zubat recovered relatively quickly, fluttering back into the air, but one of its wings had been torn and it was clearly in pain.

The momentary diversion was enough for Kaeru, however, and she threw herself hard into the stunky, bowling it over. She threw all her weight on top of the poison-type as it struggled violently, clawing at her face and sides, but for the moment she seemed to have it held down. Plus, the stunky was definitely starting to tire, its scratches becoming less vigorous, but on the other hand, Kaeru was rather bloodied herself. Chisoku, too, was beginning to flag as the poison caught up with him.

((Sorry for the wait. sleep.gif'))

Just a little more and Kazuo might have two new additions to his arsenal of Pokémon. Maybe then it wouldn't be such a waste to get rid of Koumori now. Nothing the bat did would ever impress the dark heart of Kazuo. He had failed him far too many times to be relied upon and he was lucky Kazuo didn't just kill him when he had the chance. Seeing the Stunk falter, as well as Kaeru and Chisoku, Kazuo decided to end this with one last frontal assault.

"Chisoku, while you still can, rush over to the Stunky and give it a powerful double Peck while it's still pinned. Kaeru, as soon as Chisoku's attack connects, push off and slam your body into Sandshrew for a Tackle attack, then use your fin tail to try and toss it into the air. Koumori, when Sandshrew comes towards the air, try making it come out with as many Astonishes as needed, then when it does, use Leech Life." Kazuo ordered. Chisoku, both of his heads panting slightly, nodded slowly and left Sandshrew to be in it's curled state. Bending back it's long, elongated black necks, Chisoku rushed it's beaks forth to drill into Stunky's head to try and render it unconscious.

Kaeru watched, waiting for her cue. Blood trickled down her already slimey face, but she held that same unwavering determination to stand true to her master's orders. She was the most competent out of Kazuo's legion, with Chisoku as a rough second. Koumori fluttered uselessly above, favoring it's cut wing. Kazuo spit into the dirt below him, a sign of scorn towards the Poisonous Bat.

Kaeru hastily scrambled out of the way as Chisoku charged at the stunky, and barely had the mudkip off before the doduo had arrived, driving both beaks simultaneously into the stunky's shoulder. The poison-type let out a gurgling yell and another cloud of toxic gas. Though Chisoku recoiled from the billowing purple cloud, beaks coming up red, he couldn't get any more poisoned than he already was and merely lurked around, waiting for the attack to dissipate.

The sandshrew had started to uncurl cautiously when Chisoku left, but as it spotted Kaeru coming back its way, it hastily snapped back into a tight ball. The mudkip slapped her ribbed tail against the sandshrew's side, trying to propel it into the air. Though initially unsuccessful, Kaeru persisted until she was able to flip the sandshrew up a few inches with each shot. Koumori fluttered down warily and lunged at the sandshrew each time the pokémon flew up into the air. Kaeru ducked, avoiding the bottoms of the zubat's fluttering wings as Koumori hovered around her head, but continued bouncing the sandshrew up periodically. Despite the pair's best efforts, the sandshrew still showed no sign of unrolling.

By this point, though, the stunky couldn't stand properly, its chest heaving as it lay slumped over to one side, lying in a puddle of its own blood as it glared over at Chisoku. The doduo's heads were drooping and the bird swayed occasionally on his large feet, but he still appeared alert as he kept an eye on the poison-type.

Kazuo smirked and pulled out an empty PokéBall, seeing as his Mudkip and Doduo had done an excellent job of weakening the Stunky. Though he could see that Chisoku was being greatly affected by the Poison, Kazuo had no sympathy. Pain was a price Chisoku would have to learn to be willing to live with now that he fought for Kazuo. Kaeru seemed to know her limits and never gave into the pain. Once this was over, Kazuo would simply work on turning them into dark entities. He couldn't stand Kaeru's jolly nature, nor Chisoku's blank one. Looking at the bleeding Stunky, Kazuo cocked his arm back, before tossing the PokéBall forward, hoping it would hit it's target. Meanwhile, he pulled out Chisoku's PokéBall.

"Chisoku, return." Kazuo muttered, shooting a red ray of energy out as it consumed Chisoku's being, before breaking him down into passable molecules and sucking him back into his metallic prison. Pocketing the orb, Kazuo turned to Koumori and Kaeru.

"Kaeru, use your tail to smack it down into the ground when it's airborne, Koumori, hover until it opens itself, then go in for a Leech Life!"

Even as Chisoku vanished into a pokéball, so too did the stunky. The device bounced off the poison-type's back as it struggled to drag itself out of the way, converting it instantly into a cloud of red energy that disappeared abruptly as the ball snapped shut again and fell to the ground. It rocked once, twice, then finally lay still as the pokémon inside gave up the struggle.

Kaeru and Koumori didn't even notice, absorbed as they were in their own battle. Hearing Kazuo's command, Kaeru leapt into the air and swung with her tail fin, swatting the curled-up sandshrew in the side as it fell back to earth. Still, the ground-type refeused to come out of its defensive position, lying quietly where it had fallen and showing no sign of uncurling. Kaeru, getting a bit frustrated, nudged it with her head and jabbered something irritable. She was starting to get woozy from blood loss, the deep scratches on her face still dripping. Koumori, feeling useless, just fluttered around, waiting in vain for its opponent to expose itself.

Update: You have caught one lv. 6 male stunky at 15% health. Chisoku has gained 2 EXP (2/10) and is at 20% health, poisoned; Koumori has gained 1 EXP (2/5); Kaeru has gained 2 EXP (2/10)

Kazuo smirked as he picked up the two PokéBalls, one holding his injured Doduo and the other holding his new Stunky. He would name him later, but for now, he had to keep moving. He had wasted enough time on this battle and was expected to meet with another Rocket in Mura. He didn't have time to play around with a Sandshrew. He pulled out Kaeru and Koumori's PokéBalls and returned them into their spherical prisons with a thin ray of molecular decomposing light. As they entered the balls, he put them on his belt and turned away from the curled up Sandshrew. His necklace held a strange presence about it, but he chose to ignore it for now. After all, it was that same presence that made Kazuo glad he picked it up.

"I don't have another moment to waste on you. If you wish to be stubborn, continue to live your life meaninglessly around these fields. You'll regret not joining up with such a strong evil." Kazuo muttered, before starting back on the path that he figured would lead him closer to Mura.
