This man was even stranger than she'd thought. He still wasn't acting violent, so Whivit remained calm--sort of--but he was growing weirder by the moment. She sighed and continued to ignore him. Maybe if he didn't receive any attention he'd go away.

She stepped onto the path and closed her 'nav. She would stay on the route for a while and train her pokemon. It was hot though, overwhelmingly hot, so that left Clide out--the water type would definitely dislike the heat. Her other pokemon would be okay though, and Taipa would really need the training.

She looked around for any pokemon, continuing to ignore the strange man, and if she saw any wild pokemon, she'd scan them with her pokedex.

The area around the route was still actually quite grassy, but in the distance, patches of dusty soil became larger and more common until it was the grass that was in patches. The grass was also quite tall in the immediate area, but the dusty trail cut through it so Whivit wouldn’t have any trouble walking.

The man stopped when Whivit did, also looking around. A mixture of mild surprise and confusion was written on his face.

- Three geodude appeared to be jumping around in a circle, chanting to each other. An onix on the other side of the path stared at them, yawning – or perhaps gaping.

- An ekans slithered between through the grass, tail rattling occasionally.

- An aron crawled around alone, seemingly minding its own business.

This geodude is male and level ten. This geodude is female and level twelve. This geodude is male and level four. This onix is female and level eleven. This ekans is male and level eight. This aron is female and level six,” the pokédex announced.

Whivit considered for a moment. It looked like she'd have to use Clide anyhow; most of the pokemon here were very, very weak to water pokemon. She grabbed Taipa's, Clide's, Resonance's and Reynard's balls and released them beside her.

"Alright, guys, we're gonna be battling. Sorry about the heat. Taipa, you take on geodude with Clide. Stay at a distance and growl repeatedly, while Clide, use repeated water guns on the geodude. Stay away from the onix. Reynard, you take on the aron. Dodge in-coming attacks and Ember as much as you can. Pathos, help Clide and Taipa with the geodude--night shade repeatedly. Resonance, you take the ekans. Just keep using confusion. Don't let it get near you, just move it away with your confusion attack. Keep using these orders unless I tell you to do something else." Whivit fanned herself in the heat. She tried to find some shade, still ignoring the weird creepy guy. If she had a pokeball, she would so catch that onix... maybe she could rush and get a pokeball, then come back and catch it. ... Yeah, right.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t much shade – not if she wanted to remain close to the battle, at least.

Bloodshed,” the man said suddenly. “Hypnosis. Attack the strong geodude.

Clide, Pathos, and Taipa ran over to the geodude, none of whom seemed to notice until it was too late. Clide, though she was the most negatively affected by this weather, arrived first, drawing the precious water from within her body. She spat the water at the smallest geodude, who grunted and flailed his arms when the painful blast caught him in the back. He lifted himself off of the ground with his arms and turned around, glaring.

Taipa picked the same target, and growled fiercely at the small geodude. The small geodude flinched, staring at her in fear; it probably helped that he found grass attacks very painful. This gave Clide time to blast the geodude with more water, this time in the face.

The spiritomb, which had slowly been drifting over to the battle, stared at the largest geodude in the eye. The green lights in its translucent body spun in a circle, around and around, and the geodude couldn’t help but stare. As she watched, her eyes lost focus and drooped shut.

Dark, translucent purple energy crackled from within Pathos’s empty skull, and shot toward the smallest geodude. The geodude squealed, covering his heavily-injured face, and shivered where he stood/lay/sat. He had barely moved, but the pain made it so hard to move.

The middle-sized geodude roughly rubbed at his body, smoothing out the rough corners of his rocky skin. As tiny pieces of rock was ground off, Taipa looked at him; well, he was as good a target as any, although she was picking them at mostly random. He glared at him with the most defiant expression he could muster, although it was a bit difficult, and another fierce growl rumbled from deep within his throat. The geodude stared at him with a mixture of surprise and a little fear; while the chikorita didn’t look that scary, the sound did most of the work, as did a rock/ground’s natural weakness to grass.

Meanwhile, Reynard ran over to the aron, opening his mouth to spit out many glowing specks at the aron. The aron hissed in pain as the sparks hit her face, slightly melting the metal where it hit. She didn’t move to attack, although Reynard stared at her with anticipation. Instead, she crouched as low as possible, tensing her muscles. Her armour, too, became just a little denser as she did this, causing it to become harder and more resistant – to physical attacks. Unfortunately for her, Ember was not something that this would defend against, and Reynard breathed out another stream of embers that singed her face where it struck. Though the metal didn’t melt much, she could feel the heat, and it hurt!

Also simultaneously, Resonance walked over to the ekans, but the ekans was ready. His eyes glowed as he stared at her, and Resonance almost flinched at the malicious glare. However, when he started slithering toward her, she regained her bearings and focused to wrap her mind around his, and extending it around his body. The ekans glowed slightly as it was suddenly lifted in the air and flung away, drawing an annoyed hiss. The ekans turned back toward her, eyes glinting evilly once more, and this time Resonance drew back in fear.

Bloodshed. Hypnosis. Attack the next-strong geodude.

Update: Resonance’s defence has fallen (-2). Wild geodude f12 has fallen asleep. Wild geodude m10’s attack has fallen (-1) and speed has increased (+2). Wild geodude m4’s attack has fallen (-1). Wild aron’s defence has increased (+1).

End Stats: Resonance’s defence is decreased (-2). Wild geodude f12 is asleep. Wild geodude m10’s attack is decreased (-1) and speed is increased (+2). Wild geodude m4’s attack is decreased (-1). Wild aron’s defence is increased (+1).

Terrain: Route 4 (Plains’ End Path). The grass is tall and dry, and the air is rather warm and parched. The ground is covered in dust, and is somewhat cracked in places. The sun is shining brightly.

Whivit gaped at the weird man. Was he helping her? Weird. His pokemon wasn't that bad, either--she pulled out her pokedex and scanned it. She continued to ignore the man, though, at least verbally. Maybe she'd change her mind about that, but for now, it was the silent treatment.

The geodude were tougher than she'd thought. She had assumed they'd sink like--well--rocks, to Clide's water attacks. Still, it shouldn't take long now. There was no need to change her instructions either, as it was all working rather nicely. Hopefully the geodude would faint soon and they could move on to another one. She continued fanning herself, while holding her pokedex. Shame there was no shade.

This spiritomb is male and level thirteen. He is owned.

Clide, still the fastest, drew yet more water from within her body and spat out a powerful blast of water at the already-injured geodude. This time the stream of water sent the geodude rolling backward, and when he came to a stop, lying on his face, he didn’t move. The only conscious geodude remaining grumbled at this, shooting Clide a glare, but just rubbed at his body roughly to smoothen out his surface even more. He wasn’t quite yet ready to attack, especially when Taipa was nearby, although he had noticed that she was the farthest away. His suspicions were cut short when she mustered up her courage again and snarled at him, face twisting into an ugly expression for a moment. The look of fear on his face passed sooner, though—although that might have been because he was suddenly blasted with one of Clide’s Water Guns. He used his arms to stop himself from rolling away, though, and turned to glare at Clide.

Bloodshed called the geodude to attract his attention, and the green wisps within his body started to spin again. The geodude stared, seemingly entranced, but shook his head and turned around back toward Clide. He was suddenly struck by crackling ghostly energy Pathos had been charging, burning the side of his face, and he glared at her. She glared back.

The geodude turned away, though, and once again he refocused his attention on Clide, seemingly bent on attacking her. He hopped toward her, and pushed himself onto his hands as he got close. He then launched himself into Clide, a bit more tentatively than he would otherwise, and struck her belly, hard. She whimpered as she was struck, although he simply bounced off; resilient though her skin might be, she could feel the pain. It also didn’t help that her body was slowly drying up in the heat.

Reynard spat another flurry of embers at the aron, who winced as the tiny flames assaulted her, singing her metal armour. She was determined, though, and ran forward toward Reynard. Reynard ran to move out of the way quite easily, but the aron just turned and kept trying to come after him. Reynard shot another blast of embers over his shoulder, but he was unable to aim properly while running and only hit the grass. He was able to avoid the aron, though, as the aron stopped and pawed at the ground.

Thin wisps of white smoke started to rise from where the embers had hit the grass.

The ekans opened his large mouth, aiming at Resonance, and spat out several tiny, poison-tipped needles that punctured Resonance’s skin. Resonance squeaked when several of the needles poked into her bloodstream, and her blood carried the poison off of these needles and through her body. She shivered; although the pain had yet to set in properly, it wouldn’t be long.

While she could still concentrate, Resonance stared at the ekans and waved her hands, reaching out with her psychic powers. He writhed around in the air as she held him up and dropped him roughly, just a bit further away. The ekans hissed and spat more of the poisonous needles, which stuck into her skin painfully. The attack didn’t sink in deeply, but it still stung. Shivering again – the pain from the poison was starting to make itself known – Resonance waved her tiny arms and lifted the ekans with her mind and dropped him once more.

Update: Resonance has been poisoned. Wild geodude m4 has fainted. Wild geodude m10’s speed has risen (+2) and his attack has dropped (-1).

End Stats: Resonance’s is poisoned and her defence is decreased (-2). Wild geodude f12 is asleep. Wild geodude m10’s attack is decreased (-2) and speed is increased (+4). Wild aron’s defence is increased (+1).

Terrain: Route 4 (Plains’ End Path). The grass is tall and dry, and the air is rather warm and parched. The ground is covered in dust, and is somewhat cracked in places. The sun is shining brightly.

A spiritomb, huh? It wasn't that high leveled--not that much higher than her own pokemon, anyhow. It was cool though, she had to admit that. She closed her pokedex and replaced it on her belt.

Whivit only barely noticed as Reynard's ember hit the grass, though she certainly smelled something burning. She did not want to cause a fire here. "Clide, use a bubble on the burning grass--it shouldn't be too big a fire, just a bit of smoke now--and then continue with your water gun assault. Everyone else, continue as before." If Clide couldn't find the fire, she'd go over herself and stomp on it. It was rather small at the moment, so she should manage herself.

Blood-shed. Hypnosis the second-strongest geodude.

Clide turned around, looking for the grass that was supposed to be burning. She couldn’t really see any burning grass, and from where she was, the smoke was nearly impossible to see as well. She continued trying to look, so she was unable to prepare herself for when the geodude threw himself at her back. She fell on her stomach, squealing and kicking at the air and ground; without arms, it was quite difficult to get up, and she was getting a mouthful of dust.

Taipa growled at him to get away, but the geodude wasn’t fooled this time – he’d only fall for the same trick so many times before realising that Taipa had yet to do anything else, after all. Bloodshed floated over in front of the geodude and Clide, though, green wisps spinning around and entrancing the geodude once more. This time it was more successful, and the geodude’s eyes drooped shut and his fists fell onto the ground lightly.

Clide, by now, had rolled onto her back and pushed herself into sitting position. It was quite slow going, though, and her now-sticky skin was coated in a thin layer of dust. She continued looking for any sign of fire, as she certainly didn’t want a wildfire to break out. It would dehydrate her even faster than it was now. Since she couldn’t find it, she wasn’t just going to pick some grass at random, but she couldn’t even see any sign of fire.

Ghostly energy crackled around Pathos’s eye, and Pathos shot it toward the sleeping geodude, singing the top of his head. Both non-fainted geodude slept on.

Reynard sniffed at the smoke, considering whether he should go over to the fire and try to extinguish the flames himself, but he had been told to continue; Whivit probably had it covered. He was a bit busy keeping his distance from the aron, anyway, who lowered her head in preparation to charge. Reynard sprayed the aron with more embers, and though the aron cringed, she still charged at Reynard. Reynard once again led her on a merry little chase, although he decided not to try to attack while running this time. Though he wouldn’t be harmed much by setting the area on fire, it was not what a gentleman would do.

As Whivit approached them, the aron stopped her chase, and both pokémon looked at the trainer. Whivit, who was looking for the fire, would be able to see tendrils of smoke rising up from some of the long stalks of grass on the edge of the path. The grass was quite tall, however, and the smoke seemed to be coming from the tips of the grass.

The ekans spat more needles at Resonance, who whimpered a bit but waved her arms to attack him again anyway. The movement, even one as simple as arm-waving, was painful, though, with the needles still stuck in her skin. She lifted the ekans in the air with psychic power, happy that the ekans at least wasn’t trying to come toward her. It would be hard to keep him away if he did.

The ekans sprayed her with more poisonous needles, and she raised an arm in a futile attempt to cover her face – though her large green cap was much more useful. She waved her arms to lift him in the air for the fifth time, watching him writhe around in pain, and dropped him. The ekans was tiring, and not doing very well, but neither was she.

The man, apparently, had followed Whivit, as he wasn’t too far away when he spoke next – despite the fact that she hadn’t noticed his approach.

I want onix,” the man told Whivit. “Help me catch it.

Update: Geodude m10 has fallen asleep.

End Stats: Resonance’s is poisoned and her defence is decreased (-2). Wild geodude f12 is fast asleep. Wild geodude m10’s attack is decreased (-2), his speed is increased (+4), and he is fast asleep. Wild aron’s defence is increased (+1).

Terrain: Route 4 (Plains’ End Path). The grass is tall and dry, and the air is rather warm and parched. The ground is covered in dust, and is somewhat cracked in places. The sun is shining brightly.

Poor Clide was having quite a bit of trouble. She was such a good poliwag, though. The geodude were all asleep now, thanks to that spiritomb, so it should be easier on her now. "Clide, forget about the fire, just keep using water gun. If you think you can manage it, use a Water Sport to cool yourself off. Taipa, stop growling and start pounding those geodude. It won't be that strong so be careful, but it should help at least a little."

She didn't know for sure where the fire was, so she just picked up her suitcase and smacked in on the grass repeatedly. That done, she wiped her now sweaty brow and turned to the odd man. Seemed her vow of silence would have to break. She sighed, and not just from the heat.

"Alright. When my pokemon finish their current battles." She didn't really care if the man caught the onix--she would love to have an onix, but she had no empty pokeballs. So just battling it would give her pokemon experience, and then this weird guy could catch it. No harm done.

Clide nodded and turned around, looking at the geodude asleep right in front of her. Instead of attacking point-blank immediately, though, she gathered more water from inside her body, then spat it gently into the air. The water streamed out of her mouth and gently fell onto her body and on the ground around her, wetting her skin. The moisture was definitely welcome, but she’d actually lost water this way; usually, she’d try to splash around to wet herself, but she couldn’t do so here. So the water that fell around her was wasted, and the water on her skin would soon evaporate. The water that fell on the ground was quickly disappearing as well.

She still gathered more water from within her body, and blasted the geodude in the face. The geodude rolled away slightly, but didn’t wake up. Clide was gasping now; she wasn’t about to die soon from lack of water, no, but it wouldn’t be long before she couldn’t get enough to attack.

Taipa stopped growling and walked closer to the geodude, specifically the one Clide was working on. He looked at it for a moment before abruptly slamming his leaf down at the geodude’s rocky hide. He whimpered when his leaf struck the hard, rocky hide – that hurt! The geodude’s skin was rather smooth, so it didn’t also tear the leaf, but it still was unpleasant to hit with her much softer appendage. Energy crackled around Pathos’s eye and she shot a bolt of ethereal energy at the geodude, scorching him further.

While Pathos and Taipa had been attacking, though, they had barely been paying attention to the larger geodude. Consequently, when the geodude started to stir, they made no note of it whatsoever. The geodude had completely woken up in time to see the ghostly energy fade away, but her eyes locked on Taipa, the easiest target. She hopped over to them, drawing the attention of Whivit’s pokémon, but none of them had time to react as she suddenly launched herself at Taipa. Taipa yelped and staggered sideways, into the sleeping male geodude. From the single attack, she looked rather winded, and the force of it had left a gash and a large bruise.

Reynard turned back to the aron, apparently ignoring Whivit’s attempts to put out the smoke, and sprayed the aron with more embers. The aron squealed as they singed her facial armour, shaking a little. She had yet to even touch her opponent, while he had managed to strike her several times. She was becoming discouraged, but she was still determined to try, and ran at Reynard again. Reynard also started running, just slow enough so she could follow but not so slow as to let her catch him. When the aron finally stopped and gave up the chase to regain her breath, Whivit could hear them both panting. The aron was less used to running, and her armour was partially melted in several places, so her breaths were harsher. Reynard, though, had also been exerting himself, though he could keep going for much longer.

Her efforts to put out the smoke were successful, though; when Whivit stopped, the crushed stalks didn’t emit even a tiny wisp of the smoke.

The man nodded curtly at her response. “Good. Gooooooood.

The ekans spat more poisonous needles at her, in a similar manner to Reynard’s Ember, but the spikes stuck into Resonance’s body rather than burning her skin. She waved her arms and lifted him up in the air again with her psychic powers, then dropped him. He sprayed her with yet more poisonous needles, and she also repeated her previous attack.

Though she was shaking from the pain and fatigue, she was still optimistic; she was confident that she could win, and she wasn’t going to be brought down by the attack or the poison. Perhaps she had reason to feel this way. Although the ekans didn’t have any signs of damage on his body, his mind had been strained by the repeated attacks, and his eyes were becoming slightly glazed over from the mental pain he was in.

Update: Wild geodude f12 has woken up. Taipa is learning Pound (60%).

End Stats: Resonance’s is poisoned and her defence is decreased (-2).

Oh, poor Taipa. He as definitely not strong enough to take another attack from that geodude. "Taipa, back up. Stay away from the geodude and keep growling at it. Clide, focus your water guns on the geodude that's awake. Pathos, keep attacking the sleeping geodude." They were turning out to be more trouble than she'd thought. Apparently Clide was really, really weak in the sun. She sighed. They'd all have to be healed after this. She could probably use Pathos, Reynard, Muezza and Fenrir to fight the onix; Mjolnir was definitely out.

"Hey, uh, guy. D'you mind if I heal my pokemon before we catch that onix? They're going to need it. Unless you have a really strong pokemon that can help." She shrugged and continued to watch her pokemon battle.

Clide walked around the fainted geodude, drawing more water from within her body, and then spat out the stream at the conscious geodude. The geodude just grunted and rubbed her face, flicking some of the water off angrily. Clide, panting a bit now, felt a bit parched, but she took in a deep breath and gathered more water before blasting the geodude with it.

The sleeping geodude suddenly opened his eyes, and blinked when he saw nothing – Clide was beside him now, and his own arm was blocking his view. The geodude turned around, though in the opposite direction from where Clide was, and the first thing he saw was the wounded Taipa. Taipa didn’t even notice him until he threw himself forward at the chikorita, drawing a quiet shriek of pain and surprise. Bruised and bleeding, Taipa turned to look at the other geodude, and realised he was surrounded on two sides. He then turned to face Clide, giving Clide a fearful look as he tried to back away. Taipa donned a brave face, though, when he turned back to the larger geodude and snarled. The geodude, who had just been preparing to attack, faltered, giving Taipa time to back off a bit more.

During the larger geodude’s moment of hesitation, Pathos shot another shadowy bolt of energy at the smaller one. The smaller geodude grunted in pain when the attack struck his head, and he looked a bit winded.

This seemed to startle the larger geodude out of her shock, as she then hopped toward Taipa. Taipa squeaked and froze when the geodude suddenly launched herself at him, throwing his weight into the lighter and softer body of the chikorita. Taipa stumbled back, gaining another gash and heavy bruise. Then, overcome by the pain of the three great blows, he toppled onto his side, unconscious.

Reynard spat more tiny fireballs at the aron, who squealed, shaking a bit harder from the pain. She charged at him again, but he ran away as before. While they were both moving a bit slower than they had at the beginning of the battle, the aron had slowed down more. Reynard ran at full speed this time, increasing the distance between the two, then abruptly turned around and stood his ground against the aron. Before the aron got to him, though, he spat another stream of embers at the aron, striking her in the face. The aron suddenly tripped over her own feet and fell on her stomach, chin hitting the ground hard. Some of her armour actually looked like it was melting off, though only in small patches, and her eyes had glazed over. She didn’t get up.

She didn’t even twitch.

Reynard watched to make sure she had actually fainted, feeling quite proud of himself though he didn’t show it. He walked back to Whivit, head and tails held high, coolly looking at the other man.

Do you mind?” Pause. “Yes. I mind.” The man nodded, though it was an exaggerated motion. “The onix will be gone by then. Help me catch it first.

Oddly, the onix had yet to move, although perhaps she didn’t have any reason to. She was looking at the geodude, specifically the one that had fainted.

The ekans spat more needles at Resonance, and she whimpered as they struck her, although several of the needles flew off-target and simply hit the ground. The needles also seemed to be flying a bit slower than usual. However, when Resonance weakly waved an arm, the ekans was barely lifted into the air and was dropped rather quickly. Neither of them were in much shape to fight any longer, and it seemed like this would be a battle of attrition.

The ekans spat more needles, swaying a bit, but over half of the slow-moving needles missed this time. Resonance’s attack was worse still—barely a flick, though a painful one, to the ekans’s mind. It did its job, though; the ekans’s body, overwhelmed by the mental pain that was only worse because of his elemental affinity, suddenly went slack as he lost consciousness. However, as the poison coursed through Resonance’s body, it was just too much for her. She fell to her knees, then forward, on her face, driving some of the needles further into her body.

Update: Taipa has fainted. Wild geodude f12’s attack has dropped (-1). Wild geodude m10 has awoken. Wild aron has fainted. Reynard gains 6 exp (6/10). Wild ekans has fainted. Resonance has fainted and gains 8 exp (level up to lv 11, 2/15).

End Stats: Wild geodude f12’s attack is decreased (-1). Wild geodude m10’s attack is decreased (-2) and his speed is increased (+4).

Terrain: Route 4 (Plains’ End Path). The grass is tall and dry, and the air is rather warm and parched. The ground is covered in dust, and is somewhat cracked in places. The sun is shining brightly.

Whivit sighed as she recalled both Taipa and Resonance, replacing their balls on her belt. The two had done well, and deserved to be healed... poor things. She looked down at Reynard and smiled. "Hey. You can rest for now."

She watched Clide and Pathos for a moment; they were having some trouble with the geodude, it seemed. She sighed. "Clide, hypnosis on the larger geodude, then continue with your water gun assault. Pathos, keep using night shade on the medium-sized geodude." The larger geodude was more of a problem, but the medium-sized one should faint soon, she hoped.

(( Resonance had 4/10, how does that +8 equal 8/10? And Taipa doesn't get any exp? D: ))

Bloodshed. Hypnosis the second-strongest geodude.

Clide’s internal organs spun around in her stomach as she stared at the larger geodude, and said geodude stared at the rotating spiral. However, she shook herself out of drowsiness, rubbing at her eyes. The smaller geodude, tired and in pain, turned to glare at Pathos. He hopped up and down, then threw himself at Pathos. He only managed to pass through the bottom half of her body, dispersing her body into a thick greyish mist, but she pulled herself back together and was unharmed.

Clide spat another blast of water at the larger geodude, who growled at the pain. The blast of water didn’t have as much strength, though, and Clide was really tiring fast. She didn’t think she could produce many more Water Guns, if she could even make any more at all. The smaller geodude turned to glare at Pathos, then threw himself bodily at her again, squeezing his eyes shut. He passed through her harmlessly once more, and opened his eyes just in time to see Bloodshed drop down in front of him, throwing up some dust into the air. Bloodshed’s green wisps were visible through the dust, though, and when the dust cleared away, the hypnotic suggestion to go to sleep only became stronger. The smaller geodude’s eyes drooped shut.

The larger geodude’s hands scraped at the ground. She found a small rock in each hand, then threw it at Pathos. The rocks passed through Pathos’s body, dispelling sections of Pathos’s body into mist, although Pathos was once again able to pull herself back together. She hissed, though, and a tendril tentatively patted her stomach. She hadn’t been able to pull herself back together completely perfectly, and the areas that the rock struck still hurt. The rocks themselves landed on the ground otherwise harmlessly.

Shadow energy crackled around Pathos’s eye and shot toward the smaller geodude, striking the smooth rock and leaving behind yet another blackish mark. The geodude twitched but didn’t wake up, being too blind to the world to care. He had several injuries by now, and it didn’t seem like he could last very long.

Update: Wild geodude m10 has fallen asleep.

End Stats: Wild geodude f12’s attack is decreased (-1). Wild geodude m10’s attack is decreased (-2), his speed is increased (+4), and he is sleeping.

Terrain: Route 4 (Plains’ End Path). The grass is tall and dry, and the air is rather warm and parched. The ground is covered in dust, and is somewhat cracked in places. The sun is shining brightly.

"Clide, another hypnosis, until it falls asleep. Then attack." She glanced down at her vulpix, then back at Pathos and Clide, and sighed. It was really hot here. "Reynard, wanna go help 'em? Ember on yourself, then go ember the sleeping geodude." She should have ordered Reynard to ember himself to begin with--vulpix had the flash fire ability, like Kusa's Incandescent, who always ember'd himself.
