[Kusarigamaitachi]

Stephan liked the darkness well enough, but it was still a relief to actually be able to see. It smelled like there was still food around, too. Nice. He’d get his pokémon healed first – avoiding that tent with the crazy woman from before, as usual, though she might not be there any longer anyway – and then get something to eat. He wasn’t particularly hungry, but he could eat. Might last him until early morning, when he’d probably actually get tired, and he could get breakfast or whatever and then sleep.

He’d be tired earlier than usual because he’d woken up earlier than usual today, but that wouldn’t make him fall asleep.

Ahh… but what to do after? He could buy a flashlight if any store was still open and sold them cheaply enough, but once he ran out of pokéballs, he wouldn’t really be interested in any more battling for the night.

He’d think about that later. For now, he just headed for a healing tent; preferably it’d be an empty one, but more likely than not, he was just going for the first one he found.

There was a healing tent quite close to Route 3, and it was situated conveniently up the lane from food tent as well. Harsh white light spilled out its open flap, faintly illuminating the bold red cross on its side.

On the inside, the tent proved to be cluttered and a little claustrophobic. Stacks of medical supplies teetered to either side of a scuffed path that ran straight through the center of the tent. There was also a pair of cots flanking the aisle, both of which were occupied by humans: one, a man covered in several heavy blankets despite the relative warmth of the night and the other a nurse, quite awake and sitting opposite her presumed charge, eyes fixed on a small, flickering television set atop a filing cabinet. Above, small insects buzzed around bright, gas-powered lanterns.

The healing machine was currently not in use and displaying a screensaver; it was shoved ignobly into the corner right next to the entry flap by a pile of boxes that claimed to contain surgical gloves.

As Stephan entered the tent, the nurse looked around at him and offered up a tired smile. "Hello. Is there something I can help you with?"

“No. Just need routine healing.”

He blinked at the unconscious person, then went over to the healing machine. He placed in the pokéballs for Magnemite, Skitty, Nincada, and just in case, Murkrow, then started the machine up.

Healing, food, flashlight, then training-slash-capturing, and then – er – something just to pass the time. Hopefully it wouldn’t rain while he was there.

The nurse nodded and then went back to her program. Either it was muted or she had the volume on very low, and from this distance the size of the screen made it impossible to tell what the show was about. The tent was quiet save for the hum and rumble of the healing machine as it proceeded through its cycle and the faint hum of the lights and buzz of bug-wings as the insects danced a dangerous dance around them.

After a minute or so the stillness was broken by the healing machine's cheerful chime, and the nurse glanced back at Stephan again.
