Name: Leslie 'Les' Benner Age: 22 Gender: Male Personality: For the most part, Les is what most would think of as a 'gentle giant'. Despite his somewhat intimidating build, he's actually a very kind, courteous person. He's more than willing to help out a friend in need, or even a complete stranger for that matter. He also has a great sense of humor, and loves to make people laugh. He's also a bit impulsive, which is sort of how he ended up going to Kutho in the first place. Truth be told, Les is your typical 'people pleaser', but this can be a bit of a disadvantage.
For starters, because he's so nice and courteous, he's a bit of a push over. He ends up letting people walk all over him, and just brush it off like it was nothing. He's not the brightest light bulb on the Christmas tree either, which means he's even more vulnerable to being manipulated. Once you've betrayed his trust, however, you will probably never get it back. Loyalty is a big thing for him, and it's not just something you can hand out like free samples at a Wal-mart on Saturday. Les also has an incredibly low self confidence, especially in his physical appearance. He has more than enough praise for others, but he always gives himself a hard time if he slips up even once. Truth be told, Les is not much of a competitive guy, which is why he doesn't understand the whole 'rival thing' that seems to be fairly common amongst Pokemon trainers. He has enough incentive to go out and train/battle Pokemon without one of his peers stalking him wherever he goes and continuously taunting him.
Appearance: Most would suspect that Les was a star football player or something in high school due to his build. He has a rather muscular torso, shoulders, arms, and legs, while he carries a bit of a gut. He's stocky, and a tad on the short side for the most part. His cheeks are always covered by a thin layer of beard stubble, regardless of how many times he shaves during the day. Les never really puts forth much effort into taking care of his hair, so he usually just runs a comb through the short, wavy, pitch black head of hair he has and goes about his day. As far as facial features go, his jawline is clearly defined, with a somewhat small nose and striking green eyes.
As far as clothes go, let's just say that Les dresses more for comfort than style. He can be most often seen in his favorite pair of tan khaki shorts, a pair of worn tennis shoes or sandals, and his favorite teen shirt (solid gray, very bland). However, when the weather cools down he tends to wander about in worn, denim jeans, and some sort of hooded sweater of a solid color.
History: Les was born in Goldenrod City of Johto, the only child of Melissa Benner. Apparently, Melissa was a rather...promiscuous woman, but after the birth of her son she changed her ways and went to work as a sales clerk at the local department store. Of course, as Les grew he was picked on relentlessly for not only his effeminate name, his questionable parentage, but also his physical appearance. He was a chubby little tyke, and that made his life miserable. As years went by, Les became increasingly sick and tired of the relentless taunting and finally started doing something about his weight. Through a diet plan and a lot of exercise, he lost a considerable amount of pudge, and almost miraculously the taunting stopped. Les was overjoyed by his newfound acceptance, but was incredibly disgusted by the shallowness of his peers.
After graduating from high school, Les had originally intended to start training Pokemon until he realized that he wasn't in the financial position to do so (what, did you really think that you could waltz around a whole region making money off of Gym battles alone?). He traveled to Olivine City in search of a job, and for the next four years he loaded and unloaded cargo from ships until he felt like he had enough money saved up so he could travel. While originally intending on going to New Bark Town to receive his Pokemon, he heard of the exciting region of Kutho, and it proved to be a prospect that Les couldn't turn down. So he packed his bags, quit his job, and bought a one-way plane ticket for this new, exciting region.
