Now feeling rather sorry for having ignored Moon, Andrew glanced over his shoulder at her and gave a contrived and forced grin. The murkiness of the beaten path ahead had caused his enthusiasm to take a further and more deadly drop, and he carelessly kicked a pebble nearby. Brushing his hair away from his eyes, he squinted through the darkness at the exact spot where two nimble figures had stood only moments before. He stopped abruptly, a cold feeling in his lower back. He looked around for any Pokemon that might be passing, and an excuse to not create an awkward silence between himself and Moon.

Moon looked up from her seedot uneasily, as if she knew attention was on her. When she saw Andrew smiling, she smiled back, though hers was just as fake as his.

The forest wasn't exactly teeming with advice on conversations. In fact, the area seemed to be working against Andrew by not having anything interesting to talk about; the only pokemon around at the entrance to the forest were two ledybas zipping out into the sunlight and flying about each other in the sky. Deeper inside, a chorus of creatures carried on, from the warbles of birds to the distant, vaguely canine howls of something Andrew couldn't even begin to place. There was also a very distinct chiming noise, one that should have been too soft to discern from the cries of the forest's inhabitants, yet it could still be heard.

Now Moon looked up, suddenly motivated to squint into the darkness to try and make something out, and took it upon herself to break the silence. "Did you hear that?"

Chime. Chime. Chime. Freakin' chime. Forests were supposed to be empty and abandoned, with the inhabitants skulking away in their holes or their dens or their set. No creeping mysterious shadowy figures that glared at you as if you had ten heads, all sporting seperately coloured mohawks. Now that Moon was behind him, he hadn't really taken into account that she would be anxious (she seemed too gleeful was all). Now he whipped his head to look at the two Ledybas in the distance. He crept forward, making as little noise as possible. He released Cronk, and pointed at the two Ledyba fluttering above, and pointed his PokeDEX at them. He briefly looked back at Moon, before turning back. Info time.

Would he even be able to reach them?

The ledyba were decently high up, but not for especially long. They were much more occupied with chasing each other around and switching between the pursuer and the chased at random times. Their game would take them through dramatic dips that, from Andrew's past experience with his pokemon, were well in range of Cronk's tongue.

Having received no reply to her question, Moon must have interpreted Andrew's interest in the ledyba as apathy towards whatever noise had gotten her attention. She shook her fist in silent encouragement for Andrew when he looked at her. "Get 'em, Cronk!" she whispered.

Cronk scratched his stomach and shifted through some of the dead leaves on the ground for acorns. He collected a healthy number of them, and after some wiggling to shake out the twigs and rocks he had also picked up, the lickitung pulled his meal into his mouth and swallowed it whole. He waved at Moon to show he had heard her.

"This ledyba is female and level 6. This ledyba is female and level 7," Andrew's DEX reported.

Terrain: Entrance to Mossy Forest. The ground consists of a wide dirt path with small pebbles, dead leaves, and twigs scattered everywhere. Trees are plentiful on either side of the path, and behind the battle is the forest proper. It is sunny.

Good stuff. He was feeling confident. Which wasn't suprising. Pointing up at the Ledyba. His battle orders, by now surely, must appear to sound terribly mundane and predictable, but considering Cronk's moveset he didn't have much else to do. So, the battle strategy was nothing special. But, considering that there was two of them, it might be a little more difficult. He turned to Moon. "Would you mind helping me battle? Cronk is awesome and all," (he said this just within the earshot of Cronk) "but if he's ganged up on it isn't fair. I'm not forcing you or anything."

He addressed Cronk again. "Supersonic and lick either of them when you get the chance. Keep your aim on the game, and go for the win! Andronk, and hi-oh!"

Moon didn't have time to reply before Andrew called out his orders, and Cronk, not worried about the two-to-one odds, didn't wait for her to bring reinforcements. "Tung!" he cried, gulped a large breath of air, and let fly with his inaudible supersonic towards the ladybugs. The ledybas' closeness to each other would prove to be a huge disadvantage to them, as both were caught in the soundwaves and clumsily thumped into each other as their minds descended into chaos. One of the ledyba fell, twisting and beating herself with her ball-tipped appendages, and was so busy causing herself harm that she failed to notice the ground coming up on her. Her friend remained airborne after considerable effort and responded to Cronk with a silent, open-mouthed expression--a supersonic of her own.

Cronk allowed the falling ledyba to do so--the less work he had to do, the better--and focused on the insect attacking him. Being a user of supersonic himself, he was well aware of the motions, but made no move to dodge the sound and even chuckled at the attempt. Eventually the flying ledyba had to close her mouth and catch her breath, but Cronk was no worse for wear. Meanwhile, he heard the badly confused ledyba fall to the ground with a small squeak and whipped his tongue towards her to snatch her up. Though he managed to curl it around her helpless form easily, he just as quickly dropped her in revulsion and withdrew his tongue. His apparently helpless target was leaking some strange orange fluid from her joints, a large amount of which had gotten on Cronk's tongue. Though supersonics didn't bother him, this did, and he went so far as to wipe his tongue on the dirt to get the taste off.

"Are you sure you even need me?" Moon asked Andrew. She had started to send out something from a pokeball, but stopped midway when she saw how the battle worked out. She even looked embarrassed that she'd tried to help.

Andrew pursed his lips and heaved up his trousers (which were beginning to feel a little too loose). Cronk was doing well for being able to fend off two Ledyba at once, and he knew it was almost certain that he wouldn't need Moon's help. He shook his head and gave a effortless shake of his hand to imply that he appreciated her help, but that she was (basically) no longer needed. He watched Cronk try and fend off some bright orange fluid-gas that had been secreted from the ledyba's joints - an instinctive defensive mechanism, Andrew presumed. Whatever it was, Cronk didn't seem to take to it and he hastily began an attempt to rub all evidence of it from his whopper of a tongue. Andrew looked upward at the little amounts of sunshine pouring through the treetops were quite nice to look at, and they took his attention for a moment. Then Andrew heard the squeal of the confused ledyba and cocked his head to one side. "Cronk, Shiva Flip it quickly. Don't let it put out that orange stuff."

The grounded ledyba had already produced the liquid, but Cronk supposed he could bear it. He gave his tongue another lick in the dirt and reluctantly slipped it around the ledyba's body once again. His face contorted into several comical displays of disgust as his prisoner squirmed in her foul-tasting coat of orange chemicals, but he tossed the bug on her back and was glad to drag his tongue back along the forest floor as he retracted it.

Cronk's target had already started to look a bit disgusting drenched in orange, but amazingly, all the saliva on her made her look worse. On the plus side, she was having visible difficulty moving--Cronk's paralysis-inducing spit had struck again.

In the air, the previously clear-minded Ledyba had finally succumbed to her confusion. She gave herself a solid punch in the face and dropped out of the sky, her falling form nearly hitting her sluggish comrade as it crashed.

Andrew fished for a Pokeball from his belt and enlarged it. He was probably rather stupid for trying to catch the paralyzed female ledyba already, but he needed to try in case the chance passed him by. Licking his lips, he squinted his eyes and aimed for the twitching form of the ladybug Pokemon and flung the sphere at her. He watched it soar across the air, almost desperate to make contact...

Andrew's target thought battering her face with her fists was a far more interesting idea than dodging a pokeball, and she didn't even notice when the ball bounced off her head and drew her in. Despite this, she still put up a struggle when the device swallowed her up, and she broke out of the pokeball with some effort. Spitting out the pokemon and snapping shut for future use, the thrown pokeball flew away from the battle and rolled to a stop at the base of a tree.

The ledyba that hadn't been captured finally cleared her head and went swooping down to try and bash Cronk away from her injured friend. Cronk hadn't been given any orders, but he was fairly sure Andrew wouldn't want this to happen. He swatted her out of the air with his tongue when she flew in range, and once again found himself gagging; the ledyba he hit had also covered herself with orange protective fluid.

Update: One ledyba is no longer confused.

Andrew eyed the Pokeball that had now taken position at the base of the tree, and bit his tongue gently. The ledyba had escaped from the Pokeball, dammit, and he was becoming deliriously impatient, even now. He watched as Cronk swatted at the incoming ledyba with his tongue (and that was what Andrew would've wanted to do, too!). He stepped back from the battle and glared at the ledyba that had just excreted orange fluid. "Cronk, Supersonic the non-confused ledyba again and bring it down to the ground, if you can. We'll take it from there if it goes right."

At least the ledyba was already on the ground after Cronk hit it, so that part of the plan was already in motion. He followed it up with a soundless scream launched in her direction, and the ledyba let out a distressed cry--one that quickly became garbled as the supersonic scattered her thoughts again. But though she was confused, Ledyba still had enough sense to wage a counterattack. Her wings made a dry, fluttering noise as they lifted Ledyba's body off the ground and helped her speedily ram into Cronk's head with her entire body. It was like flying into a wall, however; Cronk weighed much more than Ledyba did, and she rebounded off of his head to a senseless heap on the floor.

Cronk still squawked and fell over from the shot, more out of surprise than anything else, and huffed indignantly at the sky as he lay on his back. He pushed himself back to his feet and shook off some of the dirt clinging to his tail before jumping onto Ledyba's abdomen. It crunched, and the Ledyba let out such an ugly scream that Cronk panicked and jumped off of her again. Her body had caved in on itself and at least one of her arms had snapped in half; although she wasn't unconscious, it didn't look like the Ledyba would be getting up again anytime soon.

Predictably, the other ledyba continued to beat on herself.

No, I was editing my post. I would've given you a reason if I wanted you to edit. To be clear, your previous orders were for Cronk to slam into it, right?

((Yes. But I meant slam-tackle, not slam-murder. D=))

Andrew let out a gasp of cold and heart-stricken terror. He sprinted agilely across the clearing and snatched up his Pokeball. Almost at once he flung it at the Ledyba, and threw yet another at the second Ledyba. He waited for impact, but didn't dare recall Cronk. Andrew stepped back so quickly that he lost his balance and tumbled onto his behind. Sweat poured over him and Cronk gave a frightened squeal and ran clumsily and in what would have been an amusing manner had the situation that was now at hand not arisen. He needed to get to the next Pokemon centre. How would he explain that he had nearly killed this thing? Would it survive? He'd be put into a jail. He'd become a social outcast, eventually have to resort to cold-blooded prostitution for money. Have to beg and sell firelighters.

God, please let Ledyba Girl live.
