Title: Aiden Vs. Ray
Description: The climax of chapter 1

As Aiden made his way down the stairs, the was an extra spring to his step. He couldn't wait to release his newly acquired Sandshrew and get to know it. A thousand nicknames were flying through his mind as he neared the end of the stairs.
He quickly made his way through the lobby and out the door, eager to get outside and release his new comrade. Once outside, he found the sun even more intense than before. He shielded his eyes until they became accustomed to the light and then lowered his arm only to see someone standing not but a few meters away. Squinting, his eyes still not quite used to the bright light, Aiden saw it was a familiar face...
Junahia - May 21, 2006 12:39 PM (GMT)
The face that Aiden saw was that of Ray, the arrogant, power adoring rival of Aiden's. Ray began to speak, and it was noticeable that he too had a pokeball in hand. "Aiden! I know you got a Pokemon, so don't try to hide it." He said, releasing the pokeball from his hand, causing a Wooper to appear on site. "Let's have a wager that I will beat you. I could use the starter money. What do you say to 200K?"
Solidify - May 23, 2006 06:49 PM (GMT)
Aiden was almost in shock. Almost. Of all people, the person he least expected to see was his so called "rival" from Kanto... Ray.
Quickly snapping back to his formal self, Aiden gave Ray a sly grin. "What a," Aiden paused, "pleasant surprise." He took a step towards Ray and added, "I didn't expect to see you here."
Keeping an eye on the Wooper, Aiden casually began to walk past Ray."I'd love to stay and chat but, I'm afraid my attention is better spent elsewhere than humiliating you," Aiden said with a mock-friendly smile as he brushed past Ray. He knew how to get under Ray's skin.
Junahia - May 23, 2006 10:26 PM (GMT)
Ray's blood seemed to make its way to his face in anger at Aiden's form of humiliation. "Listen here, Aiden! Me and Wooper would easily destroy you," He said, trying to let his anger hide, and his tough exterior show. "I'll fight you, one-on-one for 150K."
Solidify - May 25, 2006 08:49 AM (GMT)
Aiden stopped and turned to his "rival." "Lowering the bet, Ray? What, don't feel quite as confident as before?" Aiden raised his eyebrows in mock-shock.
But then that look disappeared and was replaced by a smug grin. "'Ya know what, Ray? I'll take you on." Aiden quickly snatched his newly acquired pokeball from his belt and hurled it into the grass in between himself and Ray's Wooper. One blast of white light later and a Sandshrew stood there, looking quite confused as to its current location. But there was no time for pleasentries, or introductions.
Aiden widened his stance, lowered his gaze, and lost his grin. The time for action was now.
"Get ready, Ray," he said. "I'm not holding back.
Junahia - May 26, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
Ray nudged his Wooper forward, and prepared for the battle. "Neither am I!" He called. "Wooper, use Water Gun on that Sandshrew."
Solidify - May 26, 2006 01:56 AM (GMT)
"Sandshrew! Aiden called. He was going to quickly explain the situation to his Sandshrew, but Ray had already attacked. Aiden's brain kicked into over-drive as his attention was shifted onto the battle at hand.
"Quickly!" shouted Aiden. "Dash up to him and give him a momentum powered scratch!" Aiden could see the Wooper preparing for its Water Gun attack and hoped it wasn't too late...
Junahia - May 27, 2006 12:36 PM (GMT)
Brick nodded and charged at Wooper, she was hit with a water gun on her way, but still managed to scratch across the Wooper's belly. Ray sighed at Wooper for a moment, but then issued more instructions. "Wooper, be ready to dodge any attacks while shooting as many water guns as you can."
Solidify - May 29, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)
Aiden's mind raced. "Sandshrew, use Tail Whip to catch the Wooper off-guard and then follow up with a Tackle! But zig zag as you run towards him so you dodge any incoming water attacks. After tackling, pin him down and start scratching!"
Subconsciously clenching his fists, Aiden knew Wooper had the type advantage, but was surprised nonetheless and a little excited that his Sandshrew was following his directions so fluently.
Junahia - May 29, 2006 08:29 PM (GMT)
"Get ready to dodge!" Called Ray to his Wooper. That however, distracted Wooper and prevented it from dodging Brick's tail whip. Sandshrew's tail hit Wooper in the head, causing it to flinch for a second, but Wooper was able to hit Brick with a water gun, hard in the chest. Brick was still able to tackle Wooper, pinning it down and scratching relentlessly.

Aiden was, again, surprised by his Sandshrew's durability. Taking a Water Gun full-on in the chest must have not been easy, but the rodent pokemon still flawlessly carried out his orders.
"That's it, Sandshrew! Aiden called. "Keep him pinned down and keep scratching his face to prevent any more of those water attacks!"
While Sandshrew had the upper hand, Aiden took the time to give Ray a few daunting words. "Care to give up?" he said with a grin.
Junahia - May 29, 2006 10:21 PM (GMT)
"Wooper, just use as many water guns as you can!" Was all that Ray could call out. Wooper obliged, and managed to shoot out water gun after water gun, causing Brick to fall off of Wooper.
Ray snorted and shouted, "Never!" Both trainer's pokemon breathed heavily.

Aiden's plan hadn't really gone according to plan. But he remained calm and gave Sandshrew a few words of encouragement.
"Keep it up, you're doing great. Now, run up and bust open that Wooper with your shoulder! But run towards him in zig zags, be ready to dodge those Water Guns!"
From what Aiden had seen, Ray's Wooper's arsenal was fairly limited, and it's Water Guns tended to travel in a straight line. With Sandshrew running from side to side, it should help prevent any of them from hitting.
Or so Aiden hoped.
Junahia - May 29, 2006 10:37 PM (GMT)
Though tired, Brick did her best to run in zig-zags, but was still quite slow. Wooper tried to shoot Brick, but missed. "Wooper! Make sure to lead your target, then hit her. More aim," Ray ordered. Wooper began to aim, and waited for Brick to get closer, allowing for a bigger target. Once Brick was close enough, she took a water gun to the stomach, and fell over.

The situation was getting desperate. From the looks of it, Sandshrew seemed to be near exhaustion.
"Sandshrew, you alright?" Aiden asked.
Aiden was ready to jump in front of the two pokemon if the Wooper attacked, but stayed his ground for the time being. He had faith in his new Sandshrew. If his Sandshrew showed signs of still wanting to battle, Aiden was ready to give the word for it to take shelter behind the nearest tree or rock.
Junahia - May 30, 2006 01:21 AM (GMT)
Brick still managed to climb to her feet, though severely tired and injured. Ray stood still, knowing that right now he had the upper hand, but instead of attacking, they waited for Aiden.

((Damn, I'm gonna have to whip out some kind of miracle to pull off a win here. XD))
Aiden breathed a sigh of relief. This pokemon had spirit. He also knew one more good Water Gun would surely send Sandshrew over the edge. Aiden quickly scanned the area. Mainly looking for a spot Sandshrew could get to easily to hide, regroup and possibelly launch an ambush of sorts.
((And yes, this is just so I can get an idea of the battlefield. XD))
Junahia - June 1, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
Unfortunately, there were few places to be able to take cover, yet alone ambush the opponent. There were scattered rocks and bushes, nothing else. Ray smirked evily, "So, Aiden. What's the matter? Do you give up?"
Solidify - June 1, 2006 01:04 AM (GMT)
Aiden became slightly tense at the extreme lack of cover in the field. He locked eyes with his Sandshrew once more, the eyes told him they wanted to fight. Aiden nodded knowingly and turned to Ray and grinned. "We haven't even started yet." Aiden wasn't entirely sure he could back those words up, but as long as Sandshrew was still willing to fight they still had a chance.
Taking advantage of Ray's lack of action, Aiden picked his directions very carefully before kneeling down and quickly whispering them just loud enough for Sandshrew to hear and just quiet enough for Ray or Wooper not to hear. A slight twitch of Sandshrew's ears was a subtle sign that it was listening.
"Okay, I know your tired but I need you to lend me your last ounces of strength. Listen carefully. We may only get one shot so we have to make it count. Keep your distance at first from the Wooper, when you see it launch a Water Gun, just jump out of the way, as long as you take your time and doge carefully this shouldn't be a problem since he can't whip out any rapid fire or anything. If he tries wide spreading the shot, which I doubt he will, try and take cover behind the nearest bush or rock. While this process goes on, slowly make your way towards him. But be very very careful. You're number one concern here is avoiding those Water Guns. Pick up a small rock on your slow way towards Wooper. When you feel you are in decent range, wait for him to blast another Water Gun, dodge it, then as soon as you dodge it, throw the rock just over Wooper's head as a distraction and then ram into him! Give him a tackle he'll never forget! Don't let him get back up and stay away from his mouth. If you can pounce on him and pin him down so he's face down, use all of your energy and pull out a barrage of scratching. If you ever feel like he's going to get you with a Water Gun, brace yourself and curl up in a ball to reduce impact. If you can't pin him down, just try to keep him stunned long enough to keep him from aiming correctly with a Water Gun. Scratch him, tackle him, bite him, maybe even a tail whip or two, just make sure he doesn't get his bearings back!"
Aiden stood back up and walked a few steps back before adding, "Good luck."
Junahia - June 1, 2006 08:54 PM (GMT)
Brick nodded and began to move forward, when Ray's Wooper shot a water gun. The Sandshrew managed to dodge, then take cover behind a rock. She got up again and moved, avoiding to more water guns. It seemed that Brick was making good progress. She managed to move forward again, still avoiding water guns, but it was taking a lot of her energy. Brick jumped behind a rock, breathing all too heavily.
"Wooper, charge that stupid Sandshrew and use water gun all the way until you tackle it!" Ray suddenly called. Wooper began to chare the stone that Brick was hiding behind, spraying Water Guns at it, disabling Brick's movement. Scrambling, the Sandshrew found a rock and tried to throw it, but the rock went miles off of target, Wooper didn't even notice it flying overhead. The water pokemon rounded the rock, and both pokemon lunged at each other.
When the cloud of dust died down, both pokemon had fainted! Ray stared in disbelief.
Solidify - June 2, 2006 02:41 AM (GMT)
Aiden wasn't one to get shocked easily, not at all for that matter. But this just blew him away. A look of plain disbelief was strewn about his face. He shook it off in just moments before bending down to examine his Sandshrew. It was breathing hard and completely out of it. Despite this, Aiden was geniunly impressed. Smiling, he scooped the Sandshrew into his arms and looked up at Ray. Aiden shook his head and gave a small laugh before nodding to Ray.
There was a high tension in the air between the two but, it was almost a friendly tension. Almost. Aiden looked down at the Wooper, who looked to be in equally bad shape as Sandshrew. It had long painful looking scratch marks over its belly from Sandshrew's scratch's.
Junahia - June 3, 2006 01:25 AM (GMT)
Ray wordlessly returned the Wooper to its pokeball, then looked at Aiden. After a moments silence he yelled at Aiden, "You got so lucky! That stupid Wooper wasn't used to my style yet! Next time I'll win," Ray turned around after yelling, and ran off.
You can give Sandshrew +6 EXP, making her level 6. We can assume that the pokemon got fully healed and has 100% health. You may post in route 1 or route 3.
