1977-1978.You'd have to be deaf to miss the whispers of a powerful force eliminating the 'unclean' blood, and you'd have to be blind not to see the deaths written about in the newspapers. There are rumors that a war is brewing, and the deaths and terror just work to further confirm this whisper. Lately however, there have been whispers of a rival force, one that is working around the clock as a defense for those of less-than-pure blood.
However, this is all happening outside of Hogwarts. The students inside are, while not oblivious, not exposed to the turmoil of the outside world. Letters and newspaper are all they have to experience it, with the only social evidence being a dramatic increase in school violence.
As the death toll rises, however, students and wizards everywhere are left to pick and choose a side. Those who choose to go about their normal lives live in fear, though with a slim hope that maybe the opposing force will become strong enough to overthrow He Who Must Not Be Named and those named Death Eaters. After all, a war is brewing.
Everyone must choose a side, if even secretly, but remember: this isn't goodbye. Friends can be found in even the darkest times.
