Bases of the Ninja

Would-be ninjas begin in a ninja academy, where they begin learning the bases of being a ninja, such as chakra, bases of weapon skills, techniques, combat and martial arts training. After completion of their trainings, new graduates are released into teams of three and given a final exam, directed by a higher rank ninja, commonly a ninja of Jounin rank. If the exam is passed, the academy graduates progress to the beginning rank of genin, where they remain in a 3 man cell, supervised by the Jounin.

Genin Rank:

Genin are the lowest rank of ninja, fresh out of the Academy, at this rank ninjas are given their headbands with their village’s crest, in order to symbolize the village they hail from. Genin are given the lowest rank of missions, C and D rank.

Chunin Rank:

This rank is commonly obtained through completion of the chunin exams, in which survival skills, creativity, gathering and fighting skills are all tested. Chunin is middle rank of ninja, and this is the first rank where they are allowed to guide and instruct over younger Genin and Academy students, and are also given the right to wear tactical ninja vests which carry ninjutsu scrolls, though the vest is not required. Chunin are commonly sent on B and C rank missions.

Jounin Rank:

There are two types of Jounin: The typical Jounin, and Specialized Jounin. Typical Jounin have a wide range of skills, and can be sent on missions alone, or oversee members of a lower rank, and administer final exams to academy graduates. These high ranking ninja are commonly sent on A rank missions, and if they are seen as highly skilled, they may even be sent on S rank missions, the most difficult kind.

Special Jounin are of Jounin rank who were given the rank based of one specific skill they advance in. This rank is often placed under the care of normal Jounin, because of their advance in one particular skill, they may lack in other skills and are sometimes viewed as a midway point, being above the rank of Chunin, but below that of Jounin.

-Kage Rank:

This is the highest rank given to any ninja, as the leader of the village. This title is held until death, and can only be offered if the current Kage retires and selects his predecessor. Each village has its own version of the Kage and it is as follows:
 Hokage (literally "Fire Shadow") Kage of Konohagakure
 Kazekage (literally "Wind Shadow") Kage of Sunagakure
 Mizukage (literally "Water Shadow") Kage of Kirigakure
 Raikage (literally "Lightning Shadow") Kage of Kumogakure
 Tsuchikage (literally "Earth Shadow") Kage of Iwagakure

Special Ninja:

ANBU Black Ops:

ANBU is an organization of assassination squads that serves directly under the village's leader. The ANBU wear animal masks in order to distinguish themselves hide their identities, and also have standard uniforms consisting of black and gray armor, arm guards, a signature spiral tattoo on their shoulder (Men: left shoulder. Women: right shoulder). They know the layout of the human body in detail, and have developed several techniques to perform their duties, such as paralyzing the target. ANBU are considered the elite, and they perform high-ranked and dangerous missions. There are special forms of ANBU, including hunter-nin whose job is to track and eliminate rogue ninjas.
