The first full test firing of the rocket that will power a British car to over 1,000mph (1,600km/h) will take place in the coming months.
Producing 122kN (27,000lb) of thrust, the hybrid Falcon motor will be the largest rocket to be ignited in the UK for 20 years. It will not be the only power unit in the Bloodhound vehicle when it tries to break the land speed record next year. There will also be a jet from a fighter plane and the engine from an F1 car ... OK, I accept that the 'know how' exists and well done to us.
But what is the point of spending a fortune developing and testing a vehicle that can never be used? Is it just for the military maybe? Maybe I am missing the point. |

Well it would be handy for getting to work
 I agree though, at a time when there are cuts all over the place it does make one think the money could be better spent elsewhere. |

These things are privately funded. They aren't wasting govt. money, just their own.
