London 2012 Olympics: torch relay police officers 'to get counselling'

The Metropolitan Police admitted the group would receive support from “Occupational health specialists” before and after the 70-day relay.

Britain’s biggest police force also disclosed that they would be given psychological training on how to prepare themselves for being away from home.

Officials further admitted the group would also have access to career advisers to help them settle back into their day jobs after their two-month assignment was finished and would be offered counselling to help them “reintegrate”.

It is thought that taxpayers will fund the plans, which officials said was to ensure the “welfare” of 36 officers was “considered at every stage” ...

Well, the London Olympics are going to happen, so I wish them well. But all this makes me wish that they would just go away.

The cost and the inconvenience is ridiculous. Let's face it, a lot of the stuff mentioned in that article is just ridiculous and not needed.

Please don't make me laugh - is anyone in the armed forces given this " training " too ..

I agree Eddy the cost and the inconvenience are huge but deep down I am glad the Uk won the bid ..

I believe it could turn nasty (truely I do ) but still pleased we got them BUT not if things go wrong but thats hind sight for you ..
