Title: New Tricks
Description: Series 8
KingArthur - July 4, 2011 11:11 AM (GMT)
Begins tonight at 9pm on BBC1.
My (limited) TV guide does not mention James Bolam, hope he is still in the show.
Eddy - July 4, 2011 05:52 PM (GMT)
I've never watched this. But, well done to them for reaching series 8.

Enjoyed the first episode, a bit light perhaps but there's nothing wrong with that. Glad to see the whole cast are still together, I did hear this was going to be the last series.
Great to see the natural History museum featured extensively, I still think that architecturally it is one of the most stunning buildings you will see in the UK.
I also noticed Trevor Bannister, who died in April as the pathologist whose errors lead to the case being re-opened.
KingArthur - July 4, 2011 11:17 PM (GMT)
Yeah, solid if unspectacular opening. Glad to see the whole gang there, I wondered if that was Trevor Bannister. Love the actress who played the museum 'curator' person, she is brilliant.

Good episode tonight but I do hope the police would not discharge a taser gun quite as willfully as that :o artistic licence at work there I think, lol!
Good to see Esther again, her and Brian are so funny.
KingArthur - July 12, 2011 07:32 AM (GMT)
Enjoyed it. The 'moral' message of a general lack of care was a bit heavy-handed at times but worthwhile.

I thought last night's episode was really good, there were some laugh out loud moments with the psychologist, particularly when Brian was going the word test., the "what type of tree" line had me in stitches.
There was also an incredibly moving moment involving her too when Jack was talking about Mary's murder, a simple scene but very well done.
As for the actual storyline, I did think to begin with that Darren was going to be the villain and was not expecting him to turn up dead. Once his body was found though I did think the guy on the desk was a candidate, he seemed way too helpful.
Rose - August 3, 2011 08:34 AM (GMT)
I think this show is so under rated ..
grimfandango - August 3, 2011 09:10 PM (GMT)
It is very underrated, the acting from the four main leads is always top drawer and I can't think of another program where you can go from laughing out loud to incredibly moved with no crunching gear change, very rare in this day and age.

New Tricks - New SeriesThe BBC One drama New Tricks has been commissioned for another two series, for broadcast in 2012 and 2013.
The series, following an unconventional bunch of ex-coppers brought out of retirement to work on unsolved and open cases, sees old school policing clash with today's political correctness. However, they may be eccentric, bend the rules, follow their hunches and ignore procedure, but they get results.
Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning, said: "New Tricks continues to grow and is a huge favourite with the audience making it the highest rating drama on TV so far this year. Amanda, Dennis, Alun and James are a dream team that BBC One viewers have taken to their hearts and I'm thrilled the show will be back on our screens for two more years."
Filming on the next series will begin later this year on location in and around London.

I don't watch this myself and I am not sure why.
grimfandango - September 6, 2011 07:44 PM (GMT)
I think you would enjoy it Eddy :)
Great to hear New tricks will be back, it's a brilliant mix of light and shade.
Sad that last night's was the last for a while, I did think fleetingly something awful was going to happen to Jack when he visited that suspect and given he was about receive a commendation. Very glad it was all OK and that the team are still together.
I laughed out loud when Brian turned up at the award ceremony in a posh suit but also in that wretched coat of his
KingArthur - September 6, 2011 07:44 PM (GMT)
The four leads are top notch and they often have excellent guest appearances but I thought the last series lacked a little in the storylines.
A few good episodes, but not enough.

Always sad when a beloved 'gang' lose someone. Will they try to replace him I wonder?
grimfandango - September 21, 2011 06:48 AM (GMT)
Sad to see him go, I hope they at least write him out properly.
Mootle - September 26, 2011 05:44 PM (GMT)
Oh dear  Is his wife also leaving?
I remember him (and her) from way back in When the Boat Comes In.

two more of the cast leave during the next series just leaving "minder" and the new guy hmmmm.
Mootle - January 11, 2013 11:30 PM (GMT)
I don't think I will be watching if that happens :(
grimfandango - January 12, 2013 02:58 PM (GMT)
Personally I think Alun Armstrong is the star of the show, once him and Amanda are gone it will be just another police drama (not worth watching)
Mootle - January 13, 2013 06:00 PM (GMT)
I agree. I've never been a fan of that Minder bloke.
