Small queues for Big Brother as open auditions for new series begin

Pictures from the first day of auditions, taken at Manchester's Old Trafford stadium on Friday morning, showed empty queues with what appeared to be just a handful of hopefuls turning up for the chance to be on the show.

It was in direct contrast to when the series was the height of its popularity, when potential contestants would often queue through the night as auditions were held across the country.

However reports suggest that the revamped show is less of a draw than it once was.

And a special Twitter account set up to promote the auditions has revealed that show bosses have been scouting the streets in cities including Newcastle, Nottingham, Cardiff and Cambridge to try and find potential housemates.

Channel Five bought the rights to the long-running reality show after Channel 4 axed it following last summer's series.

It will return to screens in August with a celebrity version followed by the main show later in the year.

The Channel 4 version ran from 2000-2010 and many of its former housemates, including Brian Dowling and Jade Goody, became household names after appearing on the show.

At its peak it was watched by over eight million viewers, but ratings had dwindled by the time the last series, which was won by Josie Gibson, finished in 2010.

What's happening is that the Sun newspaper, and their sister publications, are very sore that BB is on Channel 5.

Big Brother bosses are making sure the new reality house will be suitable for all weather conditions.

The show used to be filmed in the hot summer months and viewers often saw housemates stripping off in the sun.

However, now the programme has moved to Channel 5 it will be aired in the autumn/winter after the Celebrity Big Brother show.

Producer Katy Smith has revealed that they have designed the new house so any adverse weather will not affect the contestants.

She told the Daily Star: "We want Big Brother to be fun and entertaining this year.

"We are used to seeing BB in the summer and CBB in the winter, but this year it's going to be completely different.

"I guess the girls can still wear bikinis inside the house in winter. We'll just pump the heating up."

The auditions for the upcoming series of Big Brother have already been completed.

Getting the right mix of people inside the BB House is the only thing that can assure us of a successful series. Bores in bikinis will not.

Even in past years when BB has been absolutely terrible - we still sit and watch it, as we will this time (ha ) .

I'm not one of those that has strong opinions about the new BB Eye. A lot of fans are saying that they don't like it. Mainly because it looks rather cheap and basic.

But, as far as I am concerned, it will do. It is more than adequate for the job. In any case, a successful series is all about the selection of interesting housemates and allowing them to interact with each other. That is what matters, not the eye.

Host Brian Dowling announced a shock twist ahead of the start of the normal show tonight as he revealed Baywatch star Pamela Anderson will be in the house ...



The Big Brother 2011 launch kicks off tomorrow night at 9:30PM On Channel 5.

Channel 5 tonight confirmed that 14 – all single – housemates would be entering the Big Brother 2011 house during Friday’s launch show. The new series, which starts just a day after the final of Celebrity Big Brother tonight, will see all the housemates aged under 30.

Revealing some teasers about the new housemates on Big Brother’s Bit On The Side this evening, Channel 5 explained how they ranged from self-made entrepreneurs to therapist students and the unemployed.

The mix includes housemates who love to walk around naked in heels and another who can’t stand fat people…

The full list of 14 housemate teasers are as follows:

1) Female, Bromley – Likes to climb trees, walk around naked with heels on and is good at limbo.

2) Male, Enfield – Studying to be therapist, single and would like to find a soul mate in the house.

3) Male, 22, Cheshire – Entrepreneur, “150% conservative% and ‘upper class’ with no sense of smell.

4) Female, 25, Manchester – Not a “girly girl”.

My initial impression is that many of the housemates are very 'samey', but I want to give them a chance. Pleased to see BB is still on. Who knows, if it proves popular, we might eventually get the live feed back.

Not really sure about the need for Pamela Anderson being in the BB House. She seems nice enough but IMO is surplus to requirements.

I'm just hoping they will introduce some older contestatnts in due course. I suspect Pamela Anderson has been put into the mix in the role of cougar. She must be a lot older than the other housemates.

Pamela Anderson leaves Big Brother with a twist

Pamela Anderson made Rebeckah Vaughan strip one of her fellow housemates of their immunity from eviction when she left Big Brother last night (12.09.11). The former Baywatch actress’ brief guest stint on the Channel 5 reality show came to an end after she granted immunity to four contestants: Maisy James, Aden Theobald, Heaven Africa and Rebeckah Vaughan by presenting them with golden swimsuits but a cruel twist meant Rebeckah was forced to strip one of the other three of their award.

Rebecca – who won her swimsuit by emerging victorious in the Dress to Impress challenge, where housemates had to dress up and strut down a ‘catwalk’ – chose a devastated Aden, who can now be nominated for eviction this Friday (16.09.11) alongside the other contestants.

Rebeckah’s decision could ruin her chances of romance with Aden, 19, after the pair recently cuddled up together in bed where Aden gave her a foot rub and she asked him ‘Do you want to stay here for a little while?’

Meanwhile, Anton Murphy will be disappointed by 44-year-old Pamela’s departure as he believes she is attracted to him.

Three housemates will face eviction from the Big Brother house this Friday as the first round of nominations takes place.

Today the 14 housemates had been asked to nominate for the first time since they entered the house.

Aaron, Harry and Tashie have been chosen by their fellow housemates for eviction.

Housemates found out who was up for eviction live this evening on Big Brother’s Bit on the Side.

Big Brother has now become the first ever TV show to offer you the chance to vote online through the social networking site, Facebook, which will cost no more than 7p per vote.

The power will now lie in your hands as you vote to save your favorite housemate from the chop.

Who are the brainiest housemates of them all? Today all housemates will be going head to head in a ‘Battle of the Brains’ and its Boys VS. Girls. The winning group will have the unique opportunity to choose the shopping for the entire House this week.

How it Works:

The battle will be begin with a race of speed and intelligence! Both teams will be faced with three maths sums. The only part missing is the answers; which they will have to work out.

Inside the ‘Fish Paste Barrels’ are all of the digits that make up the answers to the three sums. The first team to work out the sums, find the answers then put them up on the board, will be crowned as the ‘Brainy Housemates’ at today’s Graduation Ceremony. The losing team will be branded as ‘Pea Brains’ and will feel the repercussions of this embarrassing title later today.

Please Note: As a vegan Heaven can choose whether or not she decides to enter the Fish Paste Barrels which contain fish ingredients.

I'm not surprised Harry and Tashie are up, but I thought Aaron would be popular.
I find Tashie and Anton quite watchable because of their staggering lack of self awareness, and also their massive egos:

This afternoon, Big Brother will set housemate Alex Rose a special personal task where she’ll be given one hour to walk two miles – without leaving the Big Brother compound! Big Brother will call Alex to the diary room and give her a pedometer which will measure her movement for the next hour.

19-year-old McDonalds worker Alex Rose can walk anywhere around the house but has to tot up 2 miles in distance in order to pass the task.

If Alex successfully walks 2 miles in an hour, she will receive a pamper hamper prize.

The scenes will be broadcast in tomorrow night’s live eviction show, from 9PM on Channel 5.

Provided with plenty of booze, it was only a matter of time until the Big Brother 2011 housemates stripped off last night, and by 1AM many of them were butt naked and enjoying a pool party! Led by Mark and Tom, Anton, Louise and Faye quickly joined in the fun.

Completely naked, Tom and Mark tried to get Aaron to take part in the late night nudity by mounting him in the garden and trying to remove his top.

But with the 30-year-old standing his ground, they headed into the bedroom with the girls and performed a “naked conga”, before all jumping on Alex’s bed and giving her an eyeful, and then some!
