It's been a while since my last update about Histon. Well they beat Weymouth 1-0 tonight which means they are virtually assured of a play off place. Only Kidderminster can catch us up in the play off zone and even then it would mean Histon having to lose something like 8-0 on Sunday to miss out.
I have to say I think Cambridge will win the play offs this year but it's good experience for Histon anyway. I'm looking forward to playing Luton and AFC Wimbledon next season, should be good. :thumbsup:

Mined I have a bit of the Cambridge girl in me - Great Grandfather was born there as well as some granduncle's / aunts ( mid to late 1800's ) ..

I was offered a place at Cambridge when I was applying for university places all those years ago. That's where my soft spot for the area comes from.

I ended up going to the London School of Economics which was better for what I wanted to do.

Big day Tomorrow, come on Histon!

Steve Fallon is refusing to take Histon's play-off place for granted as they prepare for their final league match at Crawley Town tomorrow.
With a three-point cushion over rivals Kidderminster and a superior goal difference, only a series of mishaps could deny the Stutes a place in the top five.
But Histon boss Fallon,said his team will be going all out for victory at Crawley, who have nothing left to play for this season, with a second place finish still a possibility.
"There is a very big onus on us to go there and get a result," he said.
"If the other teams do their bit it could be quite a serious mishap if we were not to make the play-offs. We want to finish second or third and to do that we've got to win the game.
"There's a massive incentive to go to Crawley and perform against a side that will do us no favours at all. They will wind us up and be in our faces and it will be important we keep our discipline. We've got to keep our professionalism and stay with 11 players on the pitch."
Fallon also stressed the importance of finishing second or third, as those teams will play the second leg of their play-off semi-finals at home.
"We've still got an outside chance of finishing runners-up and that would be great. Second and third is what the teams want.
"You'd prefer to know what you've got to do in the second leg at home and that could make it a little bit easier. If you're going to go through you want to do it on your home ground in front of your supporters."
Histon are likely to field an unchanged side on Sunday from the team that beat Weymouth 1-0 on Tuesday night. Josh Simpson is still struggling with an ankle injury and Craig Pope is likely to keep his place at right back. :D

So Histon are "The Stutes"? Can you explain?

When they were formed back in the day they were called Histon Institute, institute = stutes. These were the days when they used to get about 40 people watching them, including the team managers, substitutes and match officials :D

Anyway back to the present day, Histon drew 3-3 with Crawley today, they finished third in the table which means we have Torquay in the play offs. Just the team we didn't want, they usually thrash us but we shall see. first leg is away this Friday with the second leg at home May 4th. The final is at Wembley on May 17th.

It would be amazing if Histon got to play at wembley :o

Unfortunately Histon lost 2-0, not a huge surprise really but a shame we didn't get a goal for the all important 2nd leg. I really can't see us getting 3 against Torquay but you never know.

Whatever happens it's been a great season, we beat Leeds and finished third, not bad considering we are still part time.

Well we gave it a try but only won 1-0,not quite enough, fair play to Torquay they came to defend and that is what they did. I would wish them luck in the final but since they are playing Cambridge I find I can't :D

Histon are away to Gateshead on the first day of the season, could be a toughie as Gateshead are newly promoted and seem to be firing on all cylinders.
4 players have left but another 3 have joined and they seem to be doing very well in the pre season friendlies.

Histon FC staged a Special Media Call on Wednesday to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Steve Fallon taking over the managerial helm at Histon.
Steve Fallon arrived at Histon FC on July 29th 1999 and started a football revolution that few would have predicted. Taking Histon up into the Southern League Eastern Division as Jewson League Champions in year one was just the start of things, with a further 3 promotions following, possibly the most impressive being the then Nationwide South title won by a huge 19 points and thrusting Histon into the top of the Non League Pyramid a level at which they are now entering their third season.

Chairman Gareth Baldwin spoke of his admiration and respect for the man who has put Histon FC firmly on the football map, “Once you get to know Steve Fallon you soon realise he is a man with a clear objective 'winning' but there is so much more to Steve than just that, the way he conducts himself speaks volumes about a man whose values and ethics are equally important. I would go as far as to say I have not found anyone in business or sport who I would trust more than Steve, his primary objective is always what's best for Histon FC so to achieve the success he has whilst not compromising on his values is a quite remarkable thing. Added to the fact he has achieved all that he has with a part time set up probably a 3rd of the budget of the top teams and you start to understand just what a remarkable Job Steve has done." Gareth added "I don’t think Steve has finished his plans for Histon by a long way and I hope we can continue to work together for many years to come. I know how much he wants to get Histon into the Football League, a dream shared by us all."
We will now prepare for Steve’s Testimonial which will be staged at the Glass World Stadium on Saturday 8th May 2010 “I suspect this will be some special day”.

Steve Fallon commented "The past decade has been an enormous challenge but it has also been highly satisfying and a real thrill for me personally. As a local resident I have really really enjoyed playing my part in a team effort which has seen our local Club progress onwards and upwards through the non league pyramid."
Steve concluded "I am still as excited about the new season ahead as I have ever been, possibly more so after last season's fantastic season when we finished 3rd in the League and had such a great FA Cup run. As I reflect on the past 10 years I have so many fond memories of particular games and I am grateful that I have been blessed with so many superb players a supportive Chairman and dedicated directors to enable us to progress together as we have, and I honestly don't think we've peaked yet".

Histon 3 Oxford 4 today

At one point Oxford were 4-1 up and it looked like where were going to get a damn good thrashing, almost nicked a draw near the end too.
A nice long trip oop north to Altrincham looms on Tuesday, hopefully we can get back on track with a win there :)

After the Oxford game apart from one win against Salisbury 2-0 things went a bit down hill with these results

Then at last a half decent result

Histon 1 Kidderminster 1 Craig Hammond scored an 85th minute equalizer for Histon :D

Then it was 2 wins
2-0 against Hayes and Yeading Josh Simpson and Nathaniel Knight-Percival the scorers
1-0 against Ebbsfleet, Josh Simpson the scorer


Wheels briefly fell off, hammered 4-0 by Wimbledon :blush:

Then it was mostly good news

2-0 Against Eastbourne Borough Nathaniel Knight-Percival scoring both goals
Local derby against Cambridge 1-1 Matt Langston scored with the last kick of the game for Histon
Last week Tamworth 1 Histon 3 2 more from Knight-Percival and another from Simpson
Then today a great result Histon 5 Forest Green 2 - Knight-Percival yet again, then Jamie Barker and Josh Simpson with 2 from Danny Wright.

There, I think I am up to date now, Histon are presently 12th in the table. FA cup next week, away to Hinkley, potential banana skin...

I look on the bright side, at least there will be no pile up of fixtures this season and we can *ahem* "concentrate on the league" :lol:

Hinkley have been drawn away to Rushden & Dustbins in round one, probably not what they were hoping for but a good chance for them to progress which I hope they do. :)

We were supposed to be playing York today but they are still in the cup so the game was postponed.
There have been a couple of draws lately 0-0 with Wrexham and 1-1 with Eastbourne.

There have been lots of changes the most prominent being a new chairman, also Josh Simpson has gone to Peterborough,we will miss him but it's a great move for him. :)

Still no game for Histon, we've only played once since my last message, I think we won 1-0 but it was so long ago i can't remember :D
Only 2 games played in December and none at all in January, this weather is really affecting the lower league clubs, most have lost money because most of the Christmas games which usually draw big gates were not able to be played.

Bad news, the idiot new chairman has sacked our manager Steve Fallon. I'm disgusted, this is the man that has taken us from the Ridgeons league to the top of the non league pyramid in just 10 years. 4 promotions amongst these.

I fear this is the end of the friendly family aspect to the club, Steve works at Impington Village College as a PE teacher, he lives locally and has a lot of involvement in the community. The kids in the village all look up to him, many of them ask for his autograph on matchdays even though they see him at school most days.

The whole situation is a farce and very sad. :(
