Sir Alex Ferguson admitted he was staggered to learn Watford have failed to sell all their tickets for their FA Cup semi-final at Villa Park.Despite boasting an average home attendance over four times greater than that of their opponents, the Red Devils were only handed 17,600 tickets, 200 fewer than Watford.
The FA have defended the decision on security grounds. Yet the complaints of United fans - the vast majority of whom will not be able to watch their team in action - have only been compounded by Watford's failure to sell 1,500 seats, which, because of segregation issues, will therefore remain empty.
"I cannot understand it," said Ferguson. "There is something wrong with the game when we get 76,000 fans every week and get fewer tickets than Watford.
"It is not Watford's fault, that problem lies elsewhere, but I am surprised at the situation.
It seems a shame to deprive Manchester United fans of the opportunity to watch the game when Watford has unsold tickets.
Anyway, best of luck to Watford.
