Title: The winter olympics
Description: 10th-26th February

Good luck to any British competitors taking part, must say I'm not really a huge fan of skiing, skating, etc and we as a nation ar generally not that good at it anyway.
The noteable expection being Jayne & Chris of course. :flowers:
Still I will be waiting to hear of a triumph in the curling

Yes, good luck to all the UK competitors. I'm looking forward to this, I like most of the winter sports.
:)

Don't forget Eddie "the Eagle" Edwards who Britain supported as he was destined to become last, and he didn't disappoint, making him into one of Britain's most famous athletes. :D

Considering as a nation we don't have much pedigree for these events, I do like the winter olympics, especially Bobsleigh & Ski jumping.
Just would like to add my best wishes for all UK competitors.

When there's hardly anyone with a chance of a medal for us, I inevitably lose interest in the Winter Olympics. Good luck to the athletes though, I'll probably have a look at the curling! :D
KingArthur - February 8, 2006 01:29 AM (GMT)
I tend to enjoy the Winter games (or most of it). Don't hold out too much hopes for the curling this time around....
WhiteLady - February 9, 2006 11:56 PM (GMT)
Just found out I'll be able to pick and choose which sports I watch on digital, lol, there, I knew there'd be perks to getting freeview! :D
WhiteLady - February 10, 2006 09:05 PM (GMT)
Anyone else watching the opening ceremony here? It's been bizarre in places, they've even had a Ferrari F1 car on the stage! :D I thought the bit where they had all the people making up the image of the skier was really clever though! :)
fruitie - February 13, 2006 10:27 PM (GMT)
 at the poor Chinese girl falling and twisting her knee. Very very painful looking but they still got the silver medal.
Why oh why do these people put themselves through these dangerous pursuits?
swingaleg - February 13, 2006 10:44 PM (GMT)
I watched a bit of the 'speed skating' yesterday tea-time, that was OK
But, on the whole, none of the sports grab my attention...........mind, that probably true of two-thirds of the sports at the 'proper' Olympics...........
WhiteLady - February 13, 2006 10:47 PM (GMT)
Hey fruitie! :hello: I haven't had a chance to watch much today but I saw the luge yesterday, jeez, guys sliding down on a tea tray, sooo scary!! :scared:

Is that the one where they go feet first ?
That just seems wrong............how can they see where they're going ?...........
WhiteLady - February 13, 2006 11:06 PM (GMT)
That's the one, swing! Totally mad!! :o

Hazel Irvine was in the luge position earlier this evening. It looked very very uncomfortable - she could hardly speak with her head in the position the lugers(?) have to be in. A big head nod (like in pilates) for the whole run
And ha ha! Bode Miller ballsed up the combined - such a cocky person!
WhiteLady - February 14, 2006 10:06 PM (GMT)
Ooh, didn't see that today, frutie, was watching the ice skating - not one person did a clean performance, everyone fell at least once! :o

I haven't been watching the games but I saw this on the news last night.
I couldn't believe she manged to get up and finish the routine, the fall looked horrific :o
Well done to them.

Here are some more good reasons to watch the games: ;)

Eddy - February 16, 2006 06:19 PM (GMT)
Our first medal. Well done Shelley for the silver. :)
fruitie - February 16, 2006 08:27 PM (GMT)
That was a brilliant performance by Shelley :D Well done. I think everybody in the gym was watching it on their wee screens  Nobody moved when their time was up until it was finished!
KingArthur - February 16, 2006 11:38 PM (GMT)
Yep, fantastic stuff. Our curling teams are both playing well too.
WhiteLady - February 17, 2006 02:54 PM (GMT)
Such an amazing story, she hadn't even heard of the sport until 3 years ago! :o :applaud: At least it means it's not a whitewash for team GB! :D
Kristen Bromley goes in the men's skeleton bob today, apparently he may sneak a medal and good luck indeed to both the curling teams! (If they win, they're British, lose and they're Scottish! ;) )
Rose - February 17, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
Echo everyones best wishes, Congratulations Shelley...
And come on you Curlers ...
WhiteLady - February 20, 2006 05:03 PM (GMT)
Oh dear, Kristen Bromley ended up 5th, and the women's curlers are basically out of it. Still, the men's team are in the semis, and there's still our ice dancing sibling pair skating tonight. :)
Eddy - February 21, 2006 10:16 AM (GMT)
Yes, bad luck to our curlers, particularly as they have been making a huge effort.
WhiteLady - February 21, 2006 01:36 PM (GMT)
The women curlers are definitely out now, even though they won their last match, oh dear! :( The men's team play Finland in their semis though. Our ice skating pair apparently performed well, but didn't have the technical difficulty in their programme to challenge for medals. Perhaps next time round for them?
WhiteLady - February 24, 2006 06:44 PM (GMT)
Aww, the men's curlers lost the other day, just on the final stone! They're in the bronze medal playoff over the weekend, I hope they get that at least!
WhiteLady - February 27, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
D'oh! They didn't even get that! Oh well, just 1 British medal from these Olympics, rubbish!!
