Scurrying (Run! Run!) through the tunnels, the darkness consuming the last fragments of hope, he could see the opening ahead. The others had grown silent, their footfalls no longer echoing through the obsidian stone, their hearts no longer giving the drum beat to their march. (I’m alone). Looking back, the fact that they were gone sank in. (But wait. There’s still noise. There’s still the spider). Facing the light, the warrior turned his back to it for the final time. He drew his sword. (I will see you soon, my friends).
He descended into the darkness, never to rise again.
