What is Initium?
Initium is a sci-fi play-by-post RPG set in the year 2411 in a moon colony. With Earth uninhabitable, the Nu System is home to humanity with the Alliance controlling the Inner Planets and the independent and unfortunate people of the system inhabiting The Fringe. The game isn't based on any existing work(s) of fiction, so no pre-existing knowledge is required! The Fringe colony of Initium is struggling to sustain itself. What was already a difficult existence has been made more difficult recently by the unexpected arrival of Alliance soldiers, various acts of violence, and a lot of snooping around. To learn more, click the link to the premise and plot thread below! The Newbie Guide In order to try to make it as easy as possible for people to explore the game and get involved in it, I (Dun) have put together this little guide to the basics of joining Initium. First things first- If you ever have any questions or concerns, never hesitate to send a PM my way or post in the Questions and Suggestions forum, and have fun, even if you're just here to browse. The steps of this guide are set up in an order that will hopefully start by familiarizing you with the game and end with leading you through the application process. Feel free to skip around as you see fit, but try to hit every step so you don't miss any important info! The Setting, Plot and Premise You hopefully know the basics of the game, but there's more to know! Check out these topics in the Rules and Information forum to learn more. New players aren't expected to memorize this info, but it's important to read through it to get a basic understanding of the game.
The Alliance: The planets of Alliance space and the basics about Alliance culture The Fringe: The planets of the Fringe and basics about Fringer culture (contains technology info) All About the Colony of Initium: What you need to know about the place in which we RP Premise: The beginning of the overarching conflict + a list of plot updates The Push: Our system for keeping things fresh and exciting! Click HERE to see our mission statement and a few 'rules', and HERE to see some FAQs (there's some important info there!). Post questions in the Cbox or the guest-friendly Questions and Suggestions forum if you'd like if you can't seem to find the answers you need at this point. Registration If you're pleased after reading all of that, you probably want to register an account and join us in telling this story. Once you have a basic idea for a character, at least, register an account with the first and last name of that character (properly capitalized, please). Before you start working on an application, you may want to check the Accepted Characters forum to see what current players have come up with and how they've addressed their applications. The Codex forum may provide you with more in-depth information to help you develop your character concepts (including topics on The Alliance Military, The Environment, Weapons Technology, and Alliance Education for Fringers). You can browse a list of Adoptable Characters if you'd like and consider registering for one of those characters if you don't already have an idea in mind. The Application Process Check out the application template and start filling it out. Once the application's done and posted in the Character Applications forum(with your character's name as the thread title), wait for your application to be reviewed. Please don't post in any IC forums until your character has been approved. If you choose to utilize a play-by (PB), please check the listing of Face Claims so you don't duplicate a PB. Once your application has been approved and moved to the Accepted Characters forum, you're ready to go! Getting Started Just a quick final note: If you don't already have threading or plotting opportunities lined up, posting a thread in the Plotting forum with some brainstorming ideas may be a good way to introduce people to your character and get started. Posting an open thread may be a good option, too. There are some cool resources pinned in that forum worth checking out, too! Enjoy the character-building, plotting, and storytelling! |
