welcome to initium!

Alive and kickin' since Oct. 2010

Initium is a sci-fi play-by-post RPG set in the year 2411 in a moon colony. With Earth uninhabitable, the Nu System is home to humanity with the Alliance controlling the Inner Planets and the independent and unfortunate people of the system inhabiting The Fringe.

The Fringe colony of Initium is now confronting threats both from the Alliance soldiers investigating colony activity and within the colonists themselves.

Mission Statement

Here at Initium, we hope to maintain an inclusive environment in which you can enjoy the spontaneity, excitement, and fun in cooperative storytelling without the hassle of arbitrary rules, micromanagement, and petty behavior. We value mutual respect and an interest in various elements of plot lines, character development and exploration, and world-building.

In order to reach our goal of maintaining a stress-free and engaging environment, I have written the following conduct reminders (with a couple of organizational/functional things) to help you figure out how the business end of things works around here. For the most part, this just addresses the fuzzier parts of conduct to make sure you understand the finer details of our one expectation, which is- to put it very simply- to be respectful and courteous.

I trust that you're a mature and intelligent person who means well, and I want to treat you as such! Any conduct issues that may arise will be handled on a case-by-case basis. Note that a staff member may address behavior that doesn't go against an explicitly stated rule. That doesn't mean we're going to invent a word minimum, hide it from you, then ban you for posting 200 words instead of 500. That does mean that we reserve the right to address any malicious behavior that interferes with the quality of our game and community.

The following information has been written with the assumption that new players coming in have some experience with PbP roleplaying and know the basic dos and don'ts, making related 'rules' unnecessary. If you feel like you need to know more about how to roleplay, send me a PM!

Enjoy the game!

OOC Conduct

[*] Keep all advertising in the Advertising forum.

[*] Please let us know if you're going to be away.
It isn't so much a rule as it is a request. Players who haven't visited Initium in over a month- and haven't left any notification about their absence- may have their characters archived and put into an Inactive member group to make sure we have an accurate record of active characters. If your character is archived, don't panic! A quick PM to an admin will allow you to get your character out of the archive, and you don't lose any posting privileges due to inactivity.

IC Conduct

[*] Please adhere to the Invisionfree Terms of Service as well as possible. Consider Initium a PG-13 rated environment, if the comparison helps.
No one is out to get you, and we are more than happy to allow you to address adult themes and subject matter, but we ask that you refrain from posting large quantities of explicitly violent or sexual information. Your characters may be vulgar, defamatory, and otherwise unpleasant people. They may confront real, adult issues, but please write them responsibly! Also try to be considerate toward your writing partners and conscious of what they're comfortable with. Remember that IF users may be as young as 13.

[*] Refrain from controlling the characters of others without the permission of their player(s) and avoid standard RP misconduct.
This is a cooperative storytelling environment. Don't try to control or harm other peoples' characters without their permission. This rule encompasses godmodding, powerplaying and other problems that pop up in the RPG community. Any issues of this kind should be reported to Dun. If you are unsure about your limitations as a player, please ask about general RP conduct.

[*] Write in-character posts in third person, past tense. (For continuity's sake)

Registration and Extras

[*] Register new accounts with your characters' first and last names with proper capitalization, please (ie. John Doe). Make a separate account for each character.
This helps us keep track of IC content and is a standard across the board. If your character doesn't have a surname for some reason, you may register with a first name only. If you make a mistake, just let me (Dun) or Ash know so one of us can change the account name for you.

[*] Apply with the template provided.
You may make some changes to it as long as you provide the information it asks for, but we prefer to have everyone stick to it for the sake of convenience. It's easier to find the information we need if it's always in the same place!

[*] Graphics:
-Please don't make avatars larger than 175x250px or signatures larger than 500x220px.

Please note that these rules may be altered at any time (there will be notification), and issues which are not covered explicitly by these rules may be addressed. Any problems will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

P.S. Jeff says your character can't say 'frak' unless it's in direct reference to Battlestar Galactica. wink.gif
