Viola Was leaning against the wall of the fireplace, her face in shadow, her green eyes occasionally glinting when caught in the firelight. She had just come up from dinner, she had been to nervous to eat, she had only picked at her food. What if he changed his mind after all and decided to hate her, or worse what if he had been lying just to see how funny it would be to watch her waiting all night. That thought made Viola very angry, people, she thought, it would figure. I shouldn't let my guard down so easily. and just as she was about to turn and go up to her room she heard the door to the Common Room open and her head snapped to see who was climbing through the portrait hole.

James clambered through the portrait hole scanning the room for Viola. He had been so nervous at dinner he had polished off his own, and three of his buddies meals.

James didn't stop eating when he was nervous, he just ate more.

He had been thinking, what if it had all been a joke? What if everyone in school was laughing at how Viola Wilkes was going to stand up the famous James Potter? He wouldn't put it past some of his buddies with the bigger jealousy issues to talk about him behind his back. He was sure they did.

He sighed.

...then he saw her. God, she was so pretty. "Hey!" he cried, his plan to not seem overeager shrivelling up and dying. He waved his unruly arms at her.

Viola tried not to laugh at James' arm flapping around as he waved. She was relieved at the sight of him, thankful that it all hadn't been just a joke.

"Hey," she replied and crossed to room to meet him, "so oh wise master, teach me your skills in annoyance."

James furrowed his brow. "Well, it depends on the person really," he said, frowning. "Some people are more easily annoyed than others."

"For instance, that girl," he said, pointing. "Got annoyed at me the other night when I called my brother an idiot. Very self righteous she was," he grinned. "It was hilarious, you should have been there."

Viola rolled her eyes, "Pssh, people, whatcha gonna do? Lets make a game out of it."
"How about...hmmm, that boy over there!" Viola jumped excitedly and pointed to a boy sitting in one of the squishy arm chairs, "annoy him in less than 3 minutes."
She gave James a playful shove in the boy's direction.

James turned around and bowed to her. "That's far too easy," he said. "However, I accept your challenge."

He walked up to the boy and began having a conversation with him. At first the boy seemed very excited and engaged but within thirty seconds he began to frown. By a minute he had a full on scowl. He and James seemed to be in a furious debate of sorts. The main difference was both of their facial expressions. The boy looked like he was constipated or something, but James looked as if he had just heard a hilarious joke and was having a very hard time not laughing.

James walked back to Viola, his eyebrows disappearing into his overgrown hair. "Guys are easy," he grinned. "Just insult their Quidditch team."

Viola watched curiously as the conversation between James and the boy unfolded. Okay, so maybe his smile was a bit charming. Viola pressed her hand against her mouth, trying hard not to laugh out loud as he walked back up to her.
"Well boys are very simple creatures," she teased, "what about me? How easy am I to annoy?"

James frowned. "Well, what things annoy you?" he said. "That's the real question."

He quickly reverted back to his usual grin

"Hmmm," Viola put her finger to her chin in mock thoughtfulness, "I guess you'll just have to figure it out for yourself oh wise master."

[James Sirius Potter]

"Ah, cmon, that's not fair!" cried James, laughing a little. "We only just met!"

He looked around at the whispering, gossiping Gryffindors around them. "We're causing quite a stir," he said, raising one eyebrow.

[Viola Wilkes]

Viola looked around as well, "Oh really? I hadn't noticed." Actually she did notice, she was very aware that everyone around them was staring and hissing under their breath to each other.
"Guess I'm just used to it." She forced a smile and looked at the floor.
"I understand if you don't want to hang out with me because of this.."

[James Sirius Potter]

James was quick to retort. "What?! No!" he cried. "Of course I don't want to stop hanging out with you!"

"Let them gossip, the idiots!" he realized how loud he was being and lowered his voice. "I mean," he whispered. "Let them gossip, the idiots."

He blushed slightly.

[Viola Wilkes]

Viola laughed loudly at James's megaphone voice.
"Okay calm down, I was just making sure you weren't doing me any favors."

James grinned. "Well, I wouldn't say that," he said, bracing to get hit.

Viola rolled her eyes and smiled, "well maybe I'm just doing you a favor Mr. Potter," Viola teased, "or maybe just maybe this is part of my evil plot to get to your father." She rubbed her hands together with a mock evil grin and laughed like a villan.
