After much delay, I've finally decided to write an IV breeding guide. In writing this guide, I'll be assuming that you already know the basics of IVs and breeding as this guide brings them together.
My method of IV breeding differs a lot from most people's and it has a few advantages too which'll be explained at the end of this guide.

Before I go on to explain my method, a few tips that you should already know:
~ If the female parent or a Ditto is holding an Everstone, there is a 50% chance that the offspring will inherit the female's/Ditto's nature.
~ Every 256 steps, there is a possibility that the parents will have "very mysteriously" obtained an egg. The probability of an egg appearing depends on how well the parents get along. There are four factors which determine this: Breeding group, Gender, OT and Species. The probabilities of an egg appearing are as followed (assuming the parents are in the same breeding group and are opposite in gender):
- 70% - Same species; different OT
- 50% - Same species; same OT
- Different species; different OT
- 30% - Different species; same OT
If the parents aren't in the same breeding group or don't have opposite genders, no egg will appear.
~ Ditto breeds with almost anything. Exceptions are Legendary Pokemon (excluding Manaphy), baby Pokemon, Ditto, NidoranF/M, Nidorina and Nidorino.
~ Here's a very useful link with probabilities for IV inheritance: http://www.smogon.com/dp/articles/breeding_guide_part3 (Thanks, smogon)
~ A simple way to hatch an egg quickly is to have a Pokemon with either Flame Body or Magma Armor in the first slot. The number of steps they save to hatch an egg is proportionate to how many eggs are in the party.
~ Another way to speed up the hatching process is by travelling on...the path! This path is straight and unblocked! There are two mudslides along it (one on Route 209 and one on Route 210).
~ The box trick is a handy glitch which allows you to find out the nature and ability of the Pokemon before it hatches. It will not corrupt any data and is quite easy to carry out. Button mode must be set to "Normal" and you'll need two boxes next to each other with an empty slot in one and a Pokemon in the same slot in the other box. Place your egg in the empty slot and switch box with L/R so that the hand is hovering over a Pokemon. When the information is about to change, press L/R so you get back to the box with the egg. If you get your timing right, you should be able to see the information that was about to come up but for the pre-hatched Pokemon. The order of information goes like this:
Item -> Type -> Nature -> Ability -> Item -> etc
~ Certain factors are determined when the egg mystically comes into existance and others when the egg is received from the Day-Care Man. These are as follows:
Before you receive the egg:
- Nature
- Gender
- Ability
- Colour
After you receive the egg:
- IVs
~ To Soft Reset: X + Y + L + R
~ The Breeding Application is given to you by the man in the Day-Care Centre.

Now, onto my method of breeding which shouldn't require any explanation if you've read all of the above.
1) Leave the parents at the Day-Care and reset the step counter.
2) On the 255th step, be one step away from the Day-Care Man and save.
3) Take a step towards the Day-Care Man and check if there is an egg using the Breeding Application. If there's an egg, save again; if not, Soft Reset and try again.
4) Take the egg and use the box trick to check the Nature (and Ability if need be). If you're after a specific gender, you'd have to hatch the egg, unfortunately. If you don't get the right nature/ability/gender, leave the Egg in the PC and try again from 2).
5) Time to hatch your and see if it's worth checking its IVs (ie ideal characteristics, some Lv1 stats may indicate high IVs, etc). If you don't think the offspring could have good IVs, Soft Reset and try again; the IVs will change but nature/ability/gender stays the same. If you think that there's a good chance of the IVs being good, store it in a box. You can either check it straight away or later with 5 other Pokemon.

At Level 1, you can't tell much about your Pokemon's IVs. You can get a rough idea from its characteristic and maybe even from its stats but if you want to find out the IVs accurately, you can have an IV battle. There are two ways you can do this. Over Wifi is preferable as almost every IV you calculate is 100% accurate. The other way is using Pokemon Battle Revolution.
For those of you who don't know what an IV battle is, it's a battle which gets your Pokemon to Lv100 (or 50 in the case of PBR). If you jot down the stats your Pokemon have at Level 100 (or 50) and then input them into an IV calculator, the results should help you determine whether the Pokemon is worth keeping.

So, what are the advantages and disadvantages of using my method for IV breeding?
Advantages:
- You take fewer steps in total so not only do you save money, but the parents don't level up quickly so if you're trying to pass down a move, there's not much chance of it being forgotten.
- Saves box space because all-in-all, you should be receiving fewer eggs.
- Once you've got an egg with the correct nature, ability, etc, it's all a matter of SRing for IVs so it can also save time.
Disadvantages:
- Only one I could think of was that the chances of you hatching a shiny are lower since you've got fewer eggs.

So that's the end of that guide. I hope that even if you don't like my method of breeding, you have at least learned something from this guide. I spent a fair amount of time writing this to try and make it understandable so please give me credit. If you spot any mistakes, can think of anything else that's useful to add or have any questions in reference to this, please PM me.
