It's not really scary, but here's my favorite Edgar Allen Poe poem; El Dorodo

Gaily bedight,
A gallant night
In sunshine and in shadow,
Had journeyed long,
Singing a song,
In search of El Dorado.

But he grew old --
This knight so bold --
And -- o'er his heart a shadow
Fell as he found
No spot of ground
That looked like El Dorado.

And, as his strength
Failed him at length,
He met a pilgrim shadow --
"Shadow," said he,
"Where can it be --
This land of El Dorado?"

"Over the Mountains
Of the Moon,
Down the Valley of the Shadow,
Ride, boldly ride,"
The shade replied --
"If you seek for El Dorado."

Both go for Poe. King couldn't come up with the stuff Poe came up with in his wildest dreams where as if Poe wrote in our era, he'd do what King does only better.

Meh, Poe has descriptive ability and all.

King comes out with the big plots that all unfurls. I'm currently reading Insomnia o_0 Zomg best book I've ever read. I mean it, ever.

The pit and the pendulum was my favorite. As for talent, I'd say Poe takes it. If he went on like he did for the length of a novel then it would blow peoples minds, and cause them to become insane.

I like both writers, but I think Poe takes this. Stephen King was influenced by Poe, but he CANNOT match the storytelling.

Being in states like drunkeness often can help writing. It expands your imagination and limits.
