Well the whole No Rping in Non-RP sections has been a topic of controversy ever since it's been implemented. I'd like to hear what you have to say about this rule. Should it stay, or should it go, and why? Remember if your going to say something, say it in a civilized manner. Only intellectual reasoning is allowed. Shouting matches will be deleted.

I think RPing should be allowed due to the fun factor, but also for other reasons. One reason is that it helps get a point across. For example, {slaps X for being stupid} is more effective than I wish i could slap X for being so stupid.

Posted by: Darkender Mar 9 2009, 11:05 PM
I thought we were to try to get away from the stupidity? I don't think we should be going backwards in our progress. Why should we need to Rp in every post we make when there is a whole section for it! I say we keep the rule we have going, and make it stricter.

Posted by: Pseudonym Mar 9 2009, 11:06 PM
I say you can only RP yourself and it has to be surrounded by asterisks.

Also RP's should only be kinda realistic and less than 10 words.

*female dog-slaps ND4* WTF, I don't care what Jason has to say. If he wants to say something, get him a f****g account.

Perfect Example.

No RPing in Non RP sections, (I'll call it NRP for short).

When this site first started people could do pretty much whatever they wanted, and every topic would go for pages with little point or intention. After awhile things got boring and we tried to make the site a bit more serious, without loosing the fun factor. One of the things that was taken note of was the immaturity, and irresponsibility in RPing in non RP sections. Even the most serious of topics would end with:

*hits you with a chicken.

*DODGES THE CHICKEN

*NU-HUH YOU CAN"T DODGE THE CHICKEN!!!

...You get the point, so because of this continued idiocy the NRP rule was implemented. At first it seemed to put everyone at ease, and on a path to a more mature, yet still fun website. However in retrospect I realize that this rule may have placed too strong of a binding on this site. Simpily put on one hand I want this site to be one of intellect, and maturity, but at the same time I want it to be relaxing, fun, and enjoyable.

You have to pick one then. We're not gonna get intellectual debates and stuff with Rping allowed. Mature members wouldn't be drawn to a site with such stupidity. I don't see how letting the place run free with Rping gonna make this place more enjoyable. There is a whole section for it!

But you see, Darkender, the RPG board does not allow for regular conversation, as it's almost always some epic fight. RPing is a way to get a point across, like {Facepalm} shows how you are dissapointed with yourself or dissapointment in another.

@Darkender: Perhaps things should be more relaxed though. This a place to hangout, not a military school.

Note: I don't neccesarily agree or disagree with you. I just want to get the entire view, if you know what I mean.

Also, you say that I have to choose one or the other? Not true. Who said we couldn't have a limited policy on Rping outside of Non-RP sections, rather than total abolishment?

There are ways to convey your thoughts other than RPing. That's one of my problems with RPing in Non-RP zones, it causes people to loose all amounts of intellect, and all hopes of serious disscussion are thrown out the window.

If you're talking about Pseudonym's idea I can tell you now that won't fix the problem. It'll only patch it up for a while, then sooner or later it's full blown back to where we started. Working backwards as I said before.

On the other side of the street you have to realize that body language/actions are an important part in conversation. Since such actions are impossible via the internet then people use Rping to convey an action which represents some sort of an emotion.

Ok, next time you talk to someone do the following things...

Stare out into space.

Don't blink

Don't move any part of your body.

Don't show any emotions what so ever.

Ever since I joined, I have asked for more RP rights.

Now, the time has come.

Well, for one thing, I see where you guys are comming from. If we RP wildly, topics will be destroyed/ignored, and no serious arguement/conversations, can be had.

Still, you must look at the other side.

We have an RP section, but it is only for serious and epic fights. We can't RP outside of it. We can actually get in trouble for simple mistakes.

This, I find unfair and troubling. For one, it limits our speech, binding us to stating things in a boring way. If we RP, we'd have more interesting and fun conversations. It'll allow points to be delivered better and clearer.

RP with some limitations

I support the use of pictures such as Facepalm and Fail and whatnot.

You can RP facepalm, but I just hate the nonsensical RP'ing like *Venom and my other son come over* "Venom and my other son, attack that guy!"

Can't we have an RP chit-chat thread? Where people talk about things while RP
ing?

PERFECTO! I congratulate Jailer for finding such a perfect solution! No it's NOT sarcasm. That wasn't sarcasm either.

I thought that what the Random thread was for.

But there's no RP-ing there. The thread I'm talking about relates to things that people want to talk about, while RP-ing. If it gets out of hand, it's just one thread that's ruined.

I think its based off of a need to express yourself on a forum, Heres an example:

John is talking to mindy,
(John) Well I think your hilarious and I think most of the time what your doing is awesome, Congratulations you deserve a trophy!

And here it is with RPing

(John) *Gives mindy an Awesome Trophy* Good job! biggrin.gif

It just makes the conversation quicker and ends the topic of that thing much quicker, if it would strain along too much the mods should just pm or ban right away, Its not a question of should we allow it or not, its a question of how long are you willing to let it go before it gets annoying and detrimental to the forums growth and fun levels.

When I try copying a pic, it copies it to my Clipboard. When I copy it there, it just adds a duplicate of the pic on it.

I think RPing sparringly should be allowed for the Chit chat area. Simple things that have been mentioned before.

As for the fight threads, I'm for a non RP rule to eliminate the possibility of mindless RPing that will inevitably happen there.

Chit chat = simple RP
Fights = none

Posted by: Ethan Mar 10 2009, 01:48 AM
I really think RPing should be brought back, albeit to the minimum, like straight to the point and on topic, no stupid stuff. But with some certain people around here, it'll be abused. So, yeah, its a dilemma.

Posted by: Darth Pool Mar 10 2009, 02:06 AM
All it comes down to is just the mods taking action and telling people when their off topic and deleting posts.

I don't enjoy it. It gets old, honestly. The topic goes down the toilet and then everybody is RPing uselessly. I don't think it should take place anywhere, but the RP section (and then only when specified) and until I am told otherwise by SW, I will continue to delete it.

Perhaps the topic-starter should state whether he will allow RPs in his thread?

This thread can be used to state whether or not you allow it in yours.

Just an idea. Don't really care either way, heh.

I like it. The thread poster should state whether or not RPing is allowed. If there is no disclaimer, then is is assumed that there is no RPing allowed.

Good idea Basset!

Posted by: Bassetman Mar 11 2009, 01:38 AM
Maybe not a disclaimer, I could see certain people feeling no need to post that several times in their threads.

But make of it what you will. biggrin.gif

That's what I mean though. If nobody posts that RPing is allowed, then it's assumed that there is no RPing. That's what you meant, wasn't it?

Alright folks here's the deal. I'm going to allow actions to be posted in a post, but with restrictions. First off keep short, and simple. It should never go longer than a brief sentence. Secondly use it rarely. When I say rarely, I mean hardly at all. Use it only if there is no other possible way that you can express yourself. Finally, no back and forth RPing. Any questions?

Acceptable:

(Treacherous has just posted an awesome FPL Character)

You- Awesome dude! *Gives treach a high five.

Unacceptable

Treacherous- *does the worm, and jumps up, and down on a Pogo stick

Treacherous- *Blocks it

Other Member- * Shoots Treacherous

It means you should do it rarely as possible. Also don't make a story out of it. Like if someone RPs then there's no reason to go back, and forth with that person. Basically don't let it overrun the topic.

Keep it rare, keep it brief.

I'm giving you guys a little bit of freedom. Don't screw it up.
