Title: What would the surroundings be like

in a riot where prisoners escape from prison and the police are trying to capture them. I already have this.
"Old abandoned cars were on fire or being stolen. The smell of death stayed a float in the air. Old buildings were being broken into as sirens began to wail. "

If they're outside, they don't just start crime again. Breaking into houses and burning cars. It's more of a frantic scramble to GTFO.

Men screamed charging across the courtyard toward freedom. The sounds of gunshots filled the air as policemen tried to re-exert their dominance over the escaped prisoners.

Men screamed as footsteps thundered on their heads. Those who had fallen were being forced deeper and deeper into the ground. Eyes wide, the mass exodus out continued. Bullets tore into people backs as the cops unloaded.

Men screamed as panic took over.

It started with a death. The guard never heard the silent whisper of feet on the floor as the shadow crept behind him, he never saw the hand being raised nor the evil smile. All he saw was a glint in the dark hallway, the sombre light reflecting off a razor sharp blade... then there was pain.

His still body dropped to the floor, blood staining his chest and his keys fell out of his hands with a clanging noise that echoed loudly in the quiet hallway.

It would be the first of many deaths.

Keys turned in locks in rapid succession and soon there was mayhem and chaos in the prison. The jailors panicked, running back and forth, but they could no more stem the tide of madness that fell upon them than they could contain it.

One final key turned and the front gates swung open...

Soon old abandoned cars were on fire or being stolen. The smell of death stayed afloat in the air, as more bodies were added to the count. Old buildings were being broken into as sirens began to wail; sirens that offered no comfort to the dead or dying.

The fires quickly spread, glinting red on the spilt blood and nowhere was safe from the prisoners. People cowered in their houses, screamed as doors smashed in and they were dragged out to the slaughter. Men, women and children cried to an unhearing god and everywhere the mad howling of the inmates echoed through the night.

When the first police cars appeared it was already too late. They found bodies lying eveywhere, blood and guts making the ground slippery as they walked through the carnage. Here and there they found some innocents still alive, and though the medics offered what care they could it would take the mental wounds a long time to heal.

The change came about the cops slowly. Their features hardened as they witnessed more and more of the attrocities that the criminals had brought upon the community. The sadness in their eyes gave way to something more sinister, more deadly.

When they came upon their first criminal, an old man who had been left behind by his fellow inmantes, a cop pulled out his gun and shot him dead.

Other shots rang out in the night.

There would be no mercy nor comprimise on this dark night and like hounds at the hunt, the cops stalked their prey.....
