Who's the better writer? Some people here say Suess because we celebrate his birthday and other holidays related to him. I say, Tolkien. I mean come on it's J.R.R. Tolkein, the writer of one of the best and most memorable epic trologies in history. The man who along with C.S. Lewis laid the ground work for modern world building fantasy inspiring such greats as Robert Jordan, J.K. Rowling and and many others I can't think at the moment.
Tolkien says, "B****, Please!" Then walks away while Suess' head explodes from overexposure to pure awesomeness!
In this order!

This is apples and oranges. It depends on the audience. If the audience were adults, then of course Tolken wins hands down, but if the audience are children then that changes everything.
If you asked any five year old which book he/she likes bette, "The Hobbit" or "Green Eggs and Ham" I'll bet you that every single one of them would pick "Green Eggs and Ham".
Apples and oranges. Get two authors that write to the same audience and then I'll debate who the better author is.
