Title: Things you hate most in vs. threads/topics/forums

Phalanx - February 1, 2009 11:56 PM (GMT)
okay we all know the main reason we dwell in mostly vs. topics as of late: To have some fun watching our favorite characters duke it with each other in a fight, big or small and some entertainment debating about who we think or feel should win. You know the rules and guidelines. However, as much as there is art and fireworks in rumble matches, there are numerous times where we can feel disappointment, sadness, rage, bitterness, intense rivalry, frustration, confusion, shock, and insanity, especially when our favorite side loses or gets hated on a lot by the public.

The vs. threads/forums can be a cruel mistress for sci-fi/comic fans everywhere. Or at least for people who take things seriously on daily basis, (e.g. me). Even for people who do not take it THAT seriously may still feel the above emotions at times.

So, ITT: We list some of the things we hate most in vs. threads/forums. it can either be based on what you logically think or how you feel, AND NO CROSS-EXAMINING/NITPICKING OTHER PEOPLE'S LISTS. I'll start.

1. I hate it when SOME people shoves the necessity for feat logic down my throat and reject abc logic at every turn.

2. When my favorites get little to NO respect or credit at all, no matter how many times someone may try and back them up or support them.

3. When my favorites consistently bashed on and hated by the crowd every day. I know people have a right to their opinion, but if it's still sad if such a thing happens to you.

4. Getting myself into huge (and sometimes inevitable) flame wars over whose series would win/is superior.

5. When most age-old rivalry battles tend to almost always seem to favor that one particular side, (e.g. Star Wars vs. Star Trek).

6. When most fanboys of the winning/overrated side (unless it's my side, which I'm extremely guilty of) get openly arrogant, cocky, smug, conceited, and obnoxious with the losing/underrated side and/or its fanboys (e.g. SF vs. DBZ). Especially when they get more excessive than I would. This is perhaps the absolute worst thing of all time any fan or fanboy has to deal with.

7. When in age-old rivalries (e.g. Pokemon vs. Digimon), you have to go through all the unnecessary shock and disappointment to find out that your side would not only logically get stomped by or lose to the other, but it isn't as strong as you formerly thought it was. The worst part of that is if even the fanboys on your side didn't care about the seriousness of the loss.

8. Whenever I'm arguing on the side of a video game character (against a non-video game character), I have to go through the major hassle of dealing with arguments based on video game mechanics. Pokemon is perhaps the biggest victim of all time when it comes to having to rationalize your own side.

9. Whenever people put up certain company vs. company match-ups (ie Nintendo vs. [insert other company here]) and I swear to God that these are probably the most annoying type of topics there is, if it gets too far.

more to come...

now you guys list yours.

I have only one complaint, when people don't know who a character is, they vote for the other side making it a popularity contest. They don't use any logic or even bother to go to wikipedia!

Ethan - February 2, 2009 01:15 AM (GMT)
tw things that piss me off....

1. Stupid people......nah, um, I get mad at people when we share feats and they blow ours out of the water like Goku is faster than Sentry, such things like that...

2. They don't listen and open their minds to the possibles of such match ups and their abilites....

Wait, did I say that they weren't FTL? Because I don't recall even stating my opinion. All I said was that the arguments got annoying.

Guys, can we get back on topic? We can save the "DBZ IS FTL!: proven fact or fan fact" for other forums.

To the first person that replied to this topic: I agree, though in real life, it's even worse.

Okay firstly, let me go through this a second time for everyone. Contrary to popular belief, the term "fanboy" isn't necessarily intended to be a pejorative connotation. I perceive the term as no different than addressing someone as a "fan", albeit just slightly more dramatic, extreme, or enthusiastic.

There now does every Havenite here get it now? Cause if you don't, I am not repeating a third time.

Secondly, I directed that example to the match-up of SF vs. DBZ in general, not to a particular member of a forum like you. So please set yourself free of confusion and misunderstanding.

Nesh, I do not wish to pull a Christian Bale on you, but my point about the herald fans being the enemy of our enemy was said so that you DBZ fans would get an idea of what was it like to have your characters/fanbase get heavily slandered by stronger ones for being weak/inferior. You see the main reason behind my gripe with this is the continuous slander some of the Z fans have given us SF.

The Power Cosmic fanboys are the only people whom the SF fans can turn to for well... protection.

I hate to complain, but you get my point. We SF fans are just tired of being ridiculed by you DBZ fans. I am not saying DBZ fans are bad or whatever, but how they treat the SF fans sometimes is just unacceptable.

As for how the Super saiyans could whomp the heralds, I'd be interested to know.

Heralds have:

Superhuman strength class 110+, Super Saiyans have that too.

FTL sppeds, Saiyans have that too

Planet busting energy pojection sowewhere above a SS1 but Super Perfect Cell and above in DBZ are Solar System busters if not multi-system.

Energy Drain and transmutation: They may have them but they don't use them and these are the argument herald supporters resort to. If the heralds have these powers, how do they lose?!

Durabilty, I give a small advantage to heralds but is greater the dfense.

Not to mention that Saiyans are well treaied and adaptive fighter and have been shown to able to overcome trasmutaion and once their energy began being drained the could figure out a way arond it.

Not to mention that Saiyans are well treaied and adaptive fighter and have been shown to able to overcome trasmutaion and once their energy began being drained the could figure out a way arond it.

but are you fully positive that they can take on Galactus?

And did you not get my earlier point about how some of you DBZ fans treat us SF fans like?

No they can not take Galactus unless he's starving and Thanos can't do that without a powerup either.

and now what about my other statement about how you dbz guys treat us sf guys? that's what I mostly want to know.

I'm glad you do. If any DBZ fanboy pulls a last straw on the SF fanboys, we'll get the Silver Surfer/Power Cosmic fanboys on them. You know what they say: An enemy of an enemy is our friend.

Yes but doing things like that make you lower than the enemy plus, any thing SS@ level or higher would whomp a herald.

I rest my case. But since I do not want to get into another minor argument with you like last summer, I'm just going to let you know this in the future: Sure there are some battles that can't be won, but that doesn't mean we always have to accept the losses. To be blunt, I secretly know when a character can win or lose, but I WILL NEVER EVER EVER EVER ADMIT DEFEAT! EVER! Not in a million years.

Not to be rude, but just don't be surprised if you see me arguing against the overrated side, which what this topic is about.
