Title: Hinduism became the largest world religion?

Phalanx - December 8, 2008 01:43 AM (GMT)
I mean what if the Indian civilization were to become aggressive and go around the world and imperializing other countries (Europe included) and then converted 1/3 billion of the Earth's population to Hinduism?

What would life and society be like today if Hinduism was the top world religion and not Christianity?

darkender - December 8, 2008 02:21 AM (GMT)
Wait, what are you saying? Are they forceing people or they are just converting?

It's a what if scenario...

Conversion or Trade. Your choice.

Now what would happen if both Americas, Europe, Australia, and parts of Africa had majority Hindu populations? With Christian populations being the minorities?

How would religious views in the Western world differ now? Will religion be viewed as beautiful and harmonous? Or would there still be divide and war?

It is your call, folks.

As long as there's religion in this world, there will be wars fought over it.

Exactly. I'm going to be blunt for a while, so bear with this:

Religion is the root of all "evil" in this world. As an atheist, I personally believe that religion of all sorts is a drawback and not needed. No, I'm not taking about nonthiest "religions" but the religions with a deity. Buddhism is not a religion, but a philosophy if you ask me. Read this book.

No, I'm not convincing anyone to be atheist, but the book does put up a good argument, and has a degree of wit.

Come on guys, I want to know what if Hinduism was the world's largest religion now? I mean Hinduism allows free worship of any deity and religious pluralism. Plus their rules and codes of worship are not as strict as the ones you are familiar with in Christianity.
So just what would happen exactly?

Another religion would not like it and conflict would continue. I honestly don't know if things would be all that much different than right now to be honest.

What would American culture be like if they were influenced by Hinduism?

Well, being that MOST of the population are not devoted to their respective religions, then I'd have to say that things would remain mostly the same. I honestly don't know how things would be different, if at all.

We would all be putting statues of Vishnu and Shiva near the White House and plus religion in America would get more interesting.

That is a distinct possibility...

Imagine if our dollars and coins had "In Brahman we trust" inscripted on it. Or when we get pissed off, we say "Oh My Vishnu!" or "For Ganeshs's sake"

I would say that they clearly aren't Hindus because I'm pretty sure Hindus are pacifists or damn close to it. Then the real militants, the Islamics, would go and convert the world.

No large Islamic empire ever forced people to ever be converted! The Ottomans let the people they took over have a choice,.
