On Work In Progress we held a contest to take an Imperial Guardsman and convert him.
And as an Admin on the site I wanted to do it too and so not playing guard I needed to think of what to convert and how to go about it.

Well as a Soldier I thought I would do somthing a little more personal and real life to me.

So I used that as my inspiration for my piece.
So my contest entry was Called "Fallen Soldier".

Here take a look.

The 40mm base is magnatized to the large black base to be transported easily and displayed without fear of him falling off but he can be removed with a simple click of a magnet.

Thanks Pollo,
No reason to steal go for it.
I post my ideas for all to see and if inspired use it.

As for the Book its actually two square pieces of thick plastic cut into small squares and glued to look like a book opened.

The the edges are cut at an angle to make the book edge look larger and the paper pages look smaller.

Thats it.

Thanks for the kind words.

It's just that while doing a dry run I found that the base seemed awfully large comparatively.
Ah well, just gives me more space to do nothing with tongue.gif
Those snow tutorials should come in handy though, atm I'm just painting flock Space Wolves Grey, then drybrushing Skull White tongue.gif

Too Big?
Really I barely fit my guy on after you lay a guy down and then think of how much room it would take to cover him.
And then place a guy next to him.. then you barely fit.

Hmm weapons base?
I think your talking about an even bigger base then me.
I use the one the new Terminators come on and the Crisis Suits come on.
Hmm Tyrnaid Warriors come on.

That one.
The one thats just twice the size as the standard fig one.
Not the one big enough for a dread.

Hope that helped better.
Sorry about the last comment.
I think I lead you astray.

Ah okay, I'm using a Heavy Weapons base, which a Dread will wit on.
Doesn't matter either way - more room for other men/scenery etc.

With any other gear Etc.

Just something I saw and so I did.
Thanks. I dont know about golden deamon way off from that but he did turn out very nice and I like him alot.

Thanks.

Thanks again everyone.

Well I took some clay and made the mound.
Pushed the weapon into it and took some various hobby knives etc and made scratches etc in it to make it look realistic.

Then I painted it from dark brown to light borwn.
Then washed over it by adding the darkest brown I have to some water.
Alot of water and very little brown.
Washed it a couple times until the cracks etc came back out.

Based it with flock etc but not the mound as it would not have had grass etc growing on it as it was just dug up.

Well thanks alot.
AS a past soldier it ment alot to me to make this.

Thanks.
