I was thinking ... because I'm writing, which means I'm doing everything but writing ... what kind of movie would you like to see him in? I know that this will make some of you cringe (no, Elle - it's not superheroes), but I think he'd be really good in a cute romantic comedy, maybe something where he's a hockey player or something like that. IDK - it just came to mind because I recommended the book See Jane Score by Rachel Gibson today (though we were out of it, of course, lol) and it just kind of got me thinking. That one's about a newspaper columnist who usually does the fluffy social stories who gets assigned to follow the local hockey team and she immediately clashes with the team captain. Very cute and very funny.

LOL

I"m not opposed to superheroes for Garrrett as long as it involves a respected director and a non-cheesy role. I also like the Xmen series, those were done cool.

I'd looooove to see him in romantic comedy especially him as a hockey player captain...wooo-hooo!

Talking about X-men, the comic book fansite posted on Garrett again but now - your turn not to cringe Laura, a Gambit!! -

I said I liked. GO VOTE!!!

http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/jos...ry/news/?a=9292

Hahaha - I saw that. Gambit is my favorite and I love Taylor, but he wasn't given anything to do in the new movie. He felt flat and boring - which was just weird because I thought he'd be perfect.

I think Garrett would be awesome at giving Gambit more layers and a hint of danger- go beyond just getting the accent right, lol. It's good to see people beyond us putting Garrett's name out there - I'm so anxious for a new project to be announced. I hope it's soon.

This is what happens when I get so fangirl obsessed and when I get mad because my uncle loosed his job:

Summary: A teenage girl, Molly, falls into the custody of her estranged brother, Adrian(Hedlund), after her single father gets arrested on embezzlement charges. Molly must move from her friends and home to an apartment in Chicago with her brother. Adrian must deal with being laid off from his job and a lot of financial issues while trying to keep his sister in his custody. Molly must deal with bullies from school who found out that her father is a criminal. Molly and Adrian don’t get along at first, but end up having a cutesy brother-sister relationship.

-note this was written at midnight with myself in mind for the role of Molly-

I think Garrett would be a great over-stressed brother/guardien thing.

Make fun all you want, but I went as far as stalking screenwriters/directors. I'm nuts. sad.gif unsure.gif

That actually sounds like a great idea for a movie or a YA novel. And midnight is the best time for brainstorming, lol.

Who has killer looks and the chops to play John Wilkes Booth?

by Jeff Labrecque
Categories: Casting, Film

Anyone who’s read James Swanson’s thrilling Manhunt or Doris Kearns Goodwin’s Team of Rivals has envisioned who might play Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth in a movie adaptation and been tantalized by simmering in-development projects involving Steven Spielberg and Liam Neeson or Harrison Ford.

But perhaps news of Robert Redford’s Lincoln-assassination film, The Conspirator, will finally resurrect such colorful historical characters for the screen. Though the film is primarily about Mary Surratt, who was hanged for her participation in the assassination, Booth is undeniably the killer role. Remember, Booth was a famous actor in his own time who single-handedly impacted history. We’re talking about a murderer who delayed his escape from Ford Theatre so he could deliver one final theatrical line of dialogue: “Sic semper tyrannis.” It’s too surreal to completely fathom a contemporary comparison.

Buried in a Risky Business Blog scoop about Redford’s project, which hopes to shoot this fall, was this nugget: “Producers are out to cast, with James McAvoy said to be at the top of their list for one of the lead roles.” Admittedly, this single line is probably nothing more than a producer’s wish, but I’m intrigued because McAvoy is Booth — has been in my mind since I read Manhunt and saw The Last King of Scotland. Something about those eyes, both charming and dangerous.

Johnny Depp is also a favorite (in my Honest Abe Buffs and Film Geeks Circle, anyway) to play Booth, but the assassin was hunted down and killed at age 26. (Captain Jack is 46.)

Leonardo DiCaprio? Emile Hirsch? Who’s your Booth? McAvoy’s my guy, but I’ll settle for any of these as long as one of these Lincoln films starts shooting soon.

Hmm ... killer looks and charming and dangerous? 0__thinking__by_Smidy.gif

Of course all the answers in the comments are for James Franco, RDJ, James McAvoy. Yada Yada Yada.

Hello, Garrett can play charming and dangerous...and talk about 'the eyes'??

this dude has a serious man crush on McEvoy.

There's this story by a Mexican writer called "Aura" that I've always wanted done as a film. It was a True blood quality to it and there are some dramatic and sensual tension scenes that I think would be awesome for Garrett. Plus the book has a huge twist in the end.

Steven Spielberg is going to produce movie based on Michael Crichton's last book, Pirate Latitudes (I keep forgetting he passed away). The book is due out in November and I couldn't find much of a plot synopsis, so the main pirate could be 80 years old for all I know, lol. But pirates are cool and Dreamworks is now partnered with Disney for distribution rights of their projects, so I figured I'd include it here.

Read the Ain't It Cool News Article.

QUOTE
DreamWorks Studios describes the novel, set for release Nov. 24, as the story of "a daring plan to infiltrate Port Royal, one of the world's richest and most notorious cities, and raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure."

"It's a mission movie, and we see it through the prism of what it might have been like to live on the island during that time," says Stacey Snider, Spielberg's partner in DreamWorks and the company's co-chair and CEO.

I think I mentioned the Coen's new production of True Grit in here somewhere - it looks like Jeff Bridges is going to be cast as Rooster Cogburn, originally portrayed by John Wayne

I haven't read these yet (though I'm pretty sure I have them ... somewhere, lol) -

From Variety -

Universal Pictures has acquired screen rights to "Wicked Lovely," the bestselling first book in a fantasy series written by Melissa Marr that will see its fourth installment published next year by Harper Collins.

The studio bought the book to be produced by Wild West Picture Show Prods., and has hired "Edward Scissorhands" scribe Caroline Thompson to adapt it.

Wild West is Vince Vaughn's U-based shingle.

The protagonist is a 17-year-old girl who can see fairies, and must fend off the advances of a fairy king determined to marry her to save the planet from his vengeful mother.

Sweet. action-smiley-033.gif

BTW, I pictured Garrett as the character Niall in the series. He's a sexy fairy with a dark past and tormented soul. Oh yeah! 1_new2.gif

One of my absolute favorite books this year has been purchased by Warner Bros./Unique features. It's Shiver by Maggie Steifvater and yes, I've already pimped out Garrett to the author on her LJ, lol. It was part of a conversation we were having and not completely random, I swear tongue.gif

QUOTE
"For years, Grace has been fascinated by the yellow-eyed wolf that saved her from its pack when she was a child. Sam, bitten by a wolf as a boy, is that wolf. Long obsessed with each other at a distance, they finally meet after a wolf hunt (inspired by the apparent death of a local teen) sends a wounded and temporarily human Sam into Grace's arms.

Their young love is facilitated by Grace's hands-off parents (Once upon a time, I would've leaped at the rare opportunity of curling up with Mom on the couch. But now, it sort of felt like too little, too late, Grace muses), but threatened by two linked crises: the fact that Sam will soon lose the ability to become human and the instability of a new lycanthrope.

Stiefvater skillfully increases the tension throughout; her take on werewolves is interesting and original while her characters are refreshingly willing to use their brains to deal with the challenges they face." - Publisher's Weeky

Here's the official announcement:

Unique Features has acquired screen rights to "Shiver," a bestselling supernatural romance novel by Maggie Stiefvater that is the first of a three-book series.

Pic will be produced by Unique Features partners Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne.

Book covers a bittersweet paranormal romance between a teen who becomes a wolf each winter and his girlfriend, who helps him find the secret to staying human. The first installment was published by Scholastic Press in August and has been on the bestseller lists for six weeks. The sequel novel, "Linger," will be published next August. Unique acquired all three books in the series.

Shaye and Lynne, who at New Line covered such fantasy and supernatural subject matter as "The Lord of the Rings" and "Blade," sparked to the author's voice, and said they couldn't ignore the grip that otherworldly stories have on young viewers.

"I'm not the biggest werewolf or vampire fan, but the author has a strong take on a young adult sensibility," Shaye said. "It's also a sexy love story that isn't too over the top."

Shaye and Lynne used their discretionary fund to acquire the book in a competitive bidding situation. They will bring it first to Warner Bros., where they have a first-look deal, and will set a writer shortly.
Unique adds "Shiver" to a slate of pic projects that include an adaptation of the Paul McCartney children's book "High in the Clouds," a Barry Levinson-directed adaptation of the musical "City of Angels" and the Broadway-bound musicals "Elf" and "Secondhand Lions."
