Is the result a fore-gone conclusion?

Can anyone see Brazil being defeated?

I would say Brazil to win.

Italy, Argentina and Germany as semi-finalists.

England to be knocked out in the quarter finals.

England have the best chance in a long time, very strong in attack and midfield - defence is a bit wobbly though. The south americans don't usually hit if off in Europe so I can't see Brazil doing it this time, although they may have one of the best squads. Holland, France, England or Germany to lift the trophy.

It looks like Rooney is out injured and that may have just done our slim chances of a good result no good at all.

It is Pathetic to have that Rugby type football player
as the UK's only hope.

Any of the other team members could do better
on the night & anything can happen.

Rooney plays like it is Rugby.
I do not rate him
at all.

I am sorry but Rugby is an excellent game and Rooney wouldn't last too long with his attitude.

I think he has a lot of talent, good vision and a deft touch. He is a quality player in a squad with little depth.

Try naming those English players who would get into a European team or squad and you will see what we are lacking. I would suggest that Terry, Lamphard and Gerard might make it but would Beckham or any of the others apart from Rooney?

It is a bit pathetic to have players like Gerrard saying that we now have no channce (5 minutes after Rooney was injured). That's great, Gerrard a possible Captain saying that ...hmm, thanks.

We have a reasonable squad but not a great squad but last World Cup we nearly beat Brazil...stop laughing! We were winning..remember...then Beckham jumped a tackle as he thought the ball was going out, 3 passes and 30 seconds later it's tied then they win...or am I dreaming?

Germany...always reliable...at home...can you right them off? no..but their team is s***E...but you know they'll probably get to the semis at least. So, anybody's Cup...

England beat Hungary 3-1 in a friendly warm up game.

We played quite well. Terry scored with his head, Gerrard and Croach got the others Crouch's goal was superb and set up by Joe Cole, who had a great game.

Hargreaves came on late and looked completely out of place.

Owen looks like he needs a game to get sharper.

Walcott had 30 mins but didn't shine but didn't look out of his depth.

Promising but will we cut the mustard when the real games start?

This may be an imflammatory question, but why does England have such a high opinion of itself, when we have not won the world cup since 1966?
I actually watched that game, first and last time I have ever watched a football match all the way through!

Well you chose a good one to watch!

I saw it 'live' on TV, if thats not a contradiction in terms.

We nearly always overate ourselves and then act all suprised and sack the manager when we don't live up to our false expectations.
