Looking for something to do, Hollowpaw grows impatient

Hollowpaw rolled over grumpily. He lay with his head down between his paws, staring out ahead of him. His striped body gave off an aura of distaste and uncontentedness. Again he rolled over, onto his side.

"Ugh!" He groaned, "So bored!"

He longed for permission to do SOMETHING, to hunt or preferably to go out training. He loved to learn, and wanted someday to be the best warrior the forest had ever seen! Maybe a typical ambition for an apprentice, but nonetheless, Hollowpaw still dreamed long an hard of his future days, glorious dreams of fights won and prey killed and eaten. With these thought, he dozed off.

Gracestar slowly limped in, and seeing Hollowpaw, went to her den entrance and collapsed. She called to him. She wanted him to go and get the other apprentices. In a few minutes they would have their ceremony. She longed to give Hollowpaw a mentor, but she couldn't think of anyone. Surely, there had to be someone....

When one of his ears twitched, the young cat leapt to his paws, almost knocking himself over in his haste to rise. His eyes flickered around momentarily, looking for the reason why he had been disrupted. Suddenly Gracestars scent hit him, and he looked over at his leader. In two leaps, he stood infront of her. Hollowpaw dipped his head respectfuly, his eyes shining.

"Yes Gracestar? Do you need me to do something? Anything?"

His voice was almost desperate, his eyes gleaming.

Gracestar saw the desperation in the young tom's eyes and felt a pain deep in her chest. What would happen if he didn't get a mentor? She shook her head, blinking, then cleared her throat. She needed him to get her....Could you bring me a piece of fresh-kill, then go and fetch Flamepaw and Peachpaw. Soon there will be a meeting. I need them here. Also, if you see Trixieheart, tell her to come too.

She felt like she had just run the longest race in her life. How could talking wind her that much? She didn't dare let the apprentice see her lose her dignity and lie there like she was dead. No, that was only for the deputy, who she didn't want to see it either.

Hollowpaw nodded eagerly, and bounded off to chose a good sized mouse. He brought it back quickly to his leader.

"I'll go get them!"

Without waiting for any reply, he sprinted off through the brush as if his life depended on it. His eyes were bright and joyful to be out and running.
