A History of Fire Emblem Spritez

This is a chronicle of the major events of Fire Emblem Spritez from those who were there when they happened. There are three major sections of this article: moderator histories, attacks on the forum, and miscellaneous major events and fads.

A History of FES Moderators

Nintend-Fan

Nintend-Fan is the creator and the former head of the forum.

The forum started as an idea at the dying NSider "Fire Emblem Sprite Gallery", in late January. FE Planet had been down since early December, and the local spriters needed a place for FE sprites. It was Nintend-Fan's idea to try to create a new sprite database for spriters to use.

The idea came up of using an Invisionfree forum to post the sprites in, and thus, FES was born on February 14th, 2006. The initial intent of the forum was the Sprite Database that still gets updated occasionally, but a Fire Emblem/Spriting community was added shortly afterward.

Nintend-Fan administrates all that happens on the forum, and has dealt with multiple attacks against it, and has even made a few himself, inadvertently. He still administrates, and plans to continue.

After an extended period of low activity, Nintend-Fan unfortunately relinquished his Administrator Status on April 6th 2008. His memory shall live on.

Swords

Swords is a former administrator of FES.

Swords was a local NSider spriter when FES was created, and he was the first member to join. A moderator position was offered to him, since there were no moderators at the time.

Swords has done a lot for the forum, including some coding here and there, and setting up a live chatroom.

Swords went through a period of inactivity, and was demoted as a result. Nintend-Fan promised that if he ever returned, he would be restored to his former position.

When Swords finally returned to FES, he was immediately "readmined". However, he eventually lost interest again, and decided to leave. We all hope that he will return someday.

Darkvalamor

Darkvalamor is the FES root administrator.

DV also came here from NSider. He began as an active member, posting and chatting a lot. He was given a moderator position because staff was needed, and he could be counted on for activity.

In the aftermath of the Nin/DH fiasco, the staff found themselves a few members short. In short, we had lost 2 administrators; one gone, the other self-demoted. Denning was unwilling to reclaim his post as administrator, so sometime later, a new admin was appointed: Darkvalamor.

Darkvalamor resigned from his post and deleted his account. However, he later decided to return, and after the resignation of Dragon Hellfire, he was reappointed to his post as administrator.

Upon Nintend-Fan's leave, he was appointed root administrator.

Deathfire

Deathfire is a former moderator.

Another NSider spriter. DF started out as the Sprite Community Moderator, a position that was offered as a reward for winning the first ever Sprite Contest. After awhile, he was promoted to Global Moderator status. He continued to to be fairly active and moderated efficiently.

Deathfire decided to step down from his post as a Global Mod, but agreed to retain some power and moderate the Official Sprite Contests forum. Although after a 3 month period of doing absolutely nothing, DF was demoted to Veteran status.

The Merc

The Merc is a local moderator.

The Merc is Kosa-Dachi from NSider. He was given the position of Sprite Community Moderator when DF was promoted since he was enthusiastic about spriting and was a good choice for moderator. He was eventually promoted to Global Moderator.

The Merc decided to resign from his post, because he wanted to just be an active member without responsibility.

Upon request to set up an official Spriting Tournament, The Merc received local Mod Powers for the Spriting Contest Board.

Denning

Denning is a former administrator.

When FES began to quickly grow, it was decided that a new moderator was needed. A poll was taken, and Denning was chosen as the new moderator.

When Swords became less active, Nintend-Fan decided that another Administrator was needed, and promoted Denning.

During the aftermath of the conflict between Nintend-Fan and Dragon Hellfire, Denning reflected on his actions as of late, and insisted that he wasn't the right person to help administrate the forum. He demoted himself.

Denning went through a massive period of inactivity due to issues in his real life, and because of this, was demoted, since he was incapable of fulfilling his duties.

Cepheus

Cepheus was given moderator powers during and attack on the forum, and simply kept them afterwards.

When his activity began to decline, he was demoted. When contacted, he agreed, and left the forum altogether, thankful to be relieved of his duty.

Cepheus returned later as one of the first two RP Heads, along with DOZ, who introduced the RP to FES. He later relinquished his duties.

Shadowinfinity

SI was another NSider spriter when FES was created.

SI was promoted to Sprite Community Moderator when The Merc received global moderator status. He was also later promoted to global mod.

SI was demoted, as even he readily admitted that he didn't really do any moderating.

Fox520

Fox was an earlier FES member. When the non-spriting community portion of the forum became more popular, the decision was made to have a moderator there, and Fox was chosen.

Fox was demoted since his activity faded to the point where he wasn't even here, but we will probably see him again, and most likely his moderator status will be returned to him.

Dragon Hellfire

Dragon Hellfire was FES's co-administrator.

Dragon Hellfire started as a local mod for the DYC tournament boards. He used the moderation powers to function as Debate Head for the tournaments.

When the FE boards were expanded, DH was appointed as a local mod for that section. However, after the departure of Darkvalamor, DH was promoted to global status to help will the gap left by DV's absence.

Later on, DH was promoted to Administrator to help Nintend-Fan keep FES running. However, as predicted, the two clashed in their ideals numerous times, and finally getting fed up, Dragon Hellfire resigned and left the forum altogether.

YokaiKnight

YokaiKnight was a global moderator.

The mods had agreed that with the recent shortage of staff members, another moderator was needed. The decision they arrived at was that Yokaiknight should be given the old post of Community Moderator, the one previously held by Fox520. He went on to prove that he was right for the job.

When gamefreak was appointed as a new Community Moderator, YokaiKnight received a promotion to global status. However, he was demoted after awhile due to extreme inactivity.

gamefreak

gamefreak is a local moderator.

After the departure of Darkvalamor, FES was left with a shortage of staff; we had an admin, a global mod, and two local mods. It simply wasn't enough. So once again, they began the search for a new staff member to join their ranks.

The team identified gamefreak as a member having the essential skills that they needed: loyalty, a willingness to work, and a level head. So gamefreak was promoted to Community Moderator status in light of Yokaiknight's promotion.

Inui

Inui is a Global Moderator.

Inui was appointed as a local mod to help Dragon Hellfire run the FE Debates. After the resignation of Dragon Hellfire, he was promoted to a global mod to help keep the forum running smoothly.

Dez384

Dez is an FES Administrator.

Dez began as a local mod in the Intelligent Discussion forum, however, when the community needed a larger staff, Dez was promoted and became local mod of the entire community section.

After the introduction of the RP, Dez was willing to help. Instead of extending his local mod powers to cover the RP, he was given Global Moderator Status. After the unfortunate resignation of Nintend-Fan, Dez was seen as a suitable choice for the position of secondary Administrator.

Dark Overlord Zack

Dark Overlord Zack is an RP Head.

Dark Overlord Zack was vital in the merging of EA and FES, adding the RP to FES. He is also a Country Lord.

Yoshi71089

Yoshi71089 is an RP Head.

After Cepheus relinquished his duties as an RP Head, Yoshi was found suitable to be his replacement, since Yoshi had originally spawned the RP on EA. He is also the Country Lord of Éridor.

Sety
Sety is an RP Mod.

Sety became an RP Mod to help with the merging and running of the RP.

AngelofDeath
AngelofDeath is an RP Mod.

In the Beginning of the RP, more help was needed to calculate. AoD was originally appointed as a Battle Calc, but was later promoted due to his hard work and diligence.

Country Lords:

The Country Lords are Local Mods that "rule" countries in the RP. They are as follows:
Yoshi71089, Lord of Éridor
Bizox, Lord of Vardas
JGatsby, Lord of Saradas
Dark Overlord Zack, Lord of Nerane
Zephiel, Lord of Malven
Katana of Ildram, Lord of Rowan

List of SPAM Lords
1. Linkssword (15 Votes at 62.50%)
2. JGatsby (10 Votes at 66.67%)
3. Linkssword (12 Votes at 41.38%)

Attacks on the Forum

This section describes some of the "villains" listed in the Wall of Shame, but not in the same degrading and humiliating manner.

Jeff

Jeff was a sprite thief who didn't want to follow the rules. It didn't help that he couldn't spell.

When Jeff's original account (Jeff) was banned for sprite theft, he registered again, as Gofry. Gofry was one of the NSider spriters, so the impostor wasn't revealed until the real Gofry registered here and proved that the other Gofry was really Jeff.

Jeff returned a third time as a member named GuessWho. After this little attack, his IP address was banned. Jeff is gone, probably forever.

Thundering Dynamo

One of the minor offenders, TD was namely a troll and flamer. He argued a lot, mainly with Denning, and this ultimately resulted in a ban.

After a few months, TD registered a new account (whose name I will not name) who followed the rules, and didn't flame. This member is still active here.

DarkHector

DarkHector started as a sprite thief registered as DarkHector567. After multiple thefts, and a few attacks on Darkvalamor (reasons unknown), he was banned. We thought we had seen the last of him. We were wrong.

About a week later, an account named DarkHector5678 spammed up all the boards. When an IP ban failed, he somehow returned under different accounts to continue spamming. We could do nothing but wait for him to grow bored and stop, and clean up afterwards, and that is exactly what happened.

Darkhector threatened that when he returned, he would bring hell with him...

Mac

Mac was not a forum predator. Mac was a chat "villain".

Mac's story begins in the chatroom, which includes a pissed off Nintend-Fan and some other various users. One person was posing as Jeff. (above)

A user named Mac enters the room. We talk with him, and ask him to check out the site. He says "your site sucks" and leaves. Nothing fancy.

Well, Nintend-Fan is still pissed off. Roughly 10 minutes later, he is inspired.

Mac enters the chat room, as a user controlled by Nintend-Fan. He proceeds to spam up the room until his IP is banned, which results in Nin not being able to access chat for about a week after that. However, Mac's identity is never discovered.

The "Mac Attack" turns into a fad that spirals out of Nintend-Fan's control. Other users pose as Mac, and the chatroom is spammier than ever until the fad dies down.

This is Mac's untold story. The real Mac was just a guy who didn't really like FES. That is all.

DarkHector Returns

A few months after DarkHector was thought to be gone, members start receiving link to the "exclusive mod boards" via PM. These boards were a mockup site (Fire Emblem Spirtez) with information stolen from the REAL mod boards by DarkHector, and put up to make it look like the real site. This was accompanied by a discussion board, where members could chat with Darkhector.

Darkhector had hacked into Nintend-Fan's account. We still don't know how.

After another spam attack, DH began hinting at being a different FES member. A conspiracy began. When rumors began to circulate, a member named Pathofpie was suspected by many a forum member. Fed up with the conspiracy, Pathofpie left the forum. But DarkHector remained.

Darkhector began to reveal some things on the mock board. A user named Haruko was actually DarkHector's IRL girlfriend. After Haruko sent a view suspicious PMs to some moderators, she was banned. She had let DarkHector into her account.

Darkhector left FES in the middle of the summer with a message: "I am Darkhector, you idiot." But the mock board was still there, now featuring a chat forum with Haruko as well.

Some time later, a user named Baron of Love registered. He posed as a frenchman, and his posts were difficult to understand. However, it was all a sham. When BoL revealed his true identity (DarkHector) he left the site. Notably, he hadn't caused any mischief.

A discussion occured between Darkhector and the moderators. Darkhector apologized, and pleaded that Haruko could be unbanned. The next day, administration discovered that her account had been deleted. Shortly afterward, the mock board died. However, we were left with one final message: 8-19-06.

We waited for August 19th, but nothing happened. DarkHector will forever remain a mystery.

Nintend-Fan and Dragon Hellfire

Perhaps the worst attack in the forum's history was made by two of the forum's veterans: Nintend-Fan and Dragon Hellfire; indirectly of course.

The drama started via PM when Nintend-Fan jokingly declined DH's offer with a smart remark to join his new forum, which DH took the wrong way; saying that things like this usually ground to a halt halfway through production, and he'd rather not waste his time contributing.

Misunderstanding what Nin meant, DH took offense to this. Others who knew what happened started using DH's forum to talk behind Nin's back.

When Nin finally realized what was happening, the conflict heated up. Nin put into effect a ban on discussion of DH's forum here on FES. When DH joked abot it, he was warned and stripped of his Veteran status; a conflict that enraged the entire forum.

People began taking sides. "Nin is overreacting", some would say, maybe one would say, "DH had it coming to him." The conflict grew larger and larger until it became too much.

In an effort to quell the argument, Nintend-Fan made a new thread stating that the fighting had to stop. He wanted to be respected instead of teased. After some discussion, Nin agreed to give DH his status back; and it seemed like the fighting was done.

But over the next week, the conflict reemerged. People began saying that Nin was a bad leader, and should just take the constant insults being flung at him like a man; others advocated that he was only human, and needed a break from all the arguing and teasing.

As more and more people jumped onto DH's bandwagon, Nintend-Fan reached the point where he couldn't take it anymore; he shut down the forum, leaving the whole of FES with nothing to see but one final message:

"You know what? That's it, I'm done. I'm tired of taking all this abuse. I'm sick of it. I'm leaving, and taking the forum with me.

Let's see how you like it without me for a little while. Maybe when I come back, you can all get off my back and try to help me out instead of attacking me."

It had been a rash decision; one that would probably scar his reputation forever. But after a mere 15 minutes, he reopened the board. "I'm done," he said, "I can't take it anymore. I'm backing down."

We all realized something that day; we realized that it wasn't the big attacks or the spammers and flamers that had the potential to rip apart FES; it was the petty issues, and the closest of friends that ultimately resulted in a sort of FES civil war. And hopefully, it won't happen again.

Dark_Dorcas_29

When a new member named Dark_Dorcas_29 appeared on the forums with a post entitled "The King has Arrived", a few members had their suspicions. Was it DarkHector, returned from the grave? Was it somebody to watch out for?

After a week or so on the forum, however, those members started to agree that maybe he was just another new member. However, those who visited his sprite gallery agreed that his style mimicked that of Dez384; a member currently away at school.

Once Dark_Dorcas_29 achieved the 50 posts necessary for attaining entrance to the Spam board, he pronounced himself King of Spam. He also made a big deal about how lame Dez394 was, apparently because he was fed up with the people who told him that their spriting styles were similar. A public outcry ensued. After all, who was this new forumgoer to defy Linkssword, the Lord of the Spam Board?

Fed up with Dark_Dorcas flooding Spam and annoying the people who posted in it, Nintend-Fan created Spam˛, (name suggested by Uther33) a silly subforum identical to Spam. The main difference: Access was denied to Dark_Dorcas_29.

Due to unfortunate circumstances, however, what had started as a silly subforum in Spam with restricted access evolved into headquarters for a conspiracy where Linkssword staged an attack to cement his title of Lord of the Spam Board against Dark Dorcas. A huge flood of spam ensued, and after the dust settled, Spam˛ was deleted. It wouldn't have been right to keep it, really.

However, it wasn't over yet. After the deletion of Spam˛, the participants of the flooding of Spam were all warned for flaming Dark_Dorcas_29. After all, he hadn't really done anything wrong. Yet another public outcry ensued. For the next few hours, Off Topic, Spam, and FES Discussion/Support were engulfed in flames.

Around this time, Dez384 posted, saying that he was home from school for a little while. Also, apparently fed up with all the flaming, Dark Dorcas decided to leave. However, upon further investigation, moderation discovered something.

Dez394's IP address was the same as Dark_Dorcas_29's. Dez had made a fatal error.

2 and 2 came together. Dez had been editing his old sprites to create a new gallery with them. He had been insulting himself to disguise his identity.

After the match was established, Dez confessed. He had been using Dark Dorcas as an alternate account while he was at school, which is why the IPs hadn't matched until
he had come back home.

Dark_Dorcas_29 had expressed his interest in making it onto the Wall of Shame, so I guess he got his wish. However, Dez384 is still around... he just got warned. From what we understood, the attack wasn't intentional, however something had to be done due to the amount of drama it caused.

Major Events and Fads

The Agents

The first real forum fad, it started when DV requested his mug to be made into a member of the secret service. The agent mug fad just grew and grew after that, but died down later, and was replaced by...

Ninjas vs. Pirates

Started as a race between Nintend-Fan (ninjas) and The Merc (pirates), a new fad was born. Each clan leader recruited as many members as possible and issued mugs of ninjas and pirates for clan members. This fad eventually grew stale and got old.

April Fools!

On April 1st, 2006, Nintend-Fan put up a board titled "April Fools!" with the intent of having members play pranks. Every post was fair game for mods to edit, and the result was mass chaos, namely due to the random spam threads by Ewan_The_Druid.

The mods also hosted the first annual "Post tagging contest". Mods were allowed to "tag" posts in the pranks board, by editing the bottom to say "Tagged!" in their assigned color.

A few notable pranks were played. Nintend-Fan screwed around with the censors so that "a" and "e" were changed to "z", among other ridiculous censors. Yoshi71089 created a mock site where Jeff was root admin and all the mods were powerless. Swords implemented a code that made all of the links disappear when you clicked them. All in all, it was a great time, and the forum's best holiday celebration to date.

Live Chat and the Den Signal

FESchat was a live chatroom created by Swords for use of the community. It is still used today.

Along with chat came a large number of fads, etc, including the infamous "nppb", the hugemouthsmiley2.gif emoticon, and most importantly, the Den Signal.

user posted image
The new Den signal, restored to it's former glory. The original was, sadly, lost.

The Den Signal would go up... whenever an Admin felt like it. It was an efficient way to get the message across that people were in chat, and you should join in.

FES meets FEBW

This fad was kicked off by The Merc, who made an official thread about FEBW that was floated and was a big hit among the community. In the thread we all made speculations about our battles and discussed them in dramatic ways to add to the fun. Eventually, it died out, but we wouldn't be surprised if the FEBW craze repeated itself again.

Halloween

When October 2006 rolled around, The Merc started a contest for halloween-costume mugs. There were four divisions (Well Made, Scary Outfit, Sexy Outfit, and most likely seen in real life) and awards were given to the top 3 in each poll.

Structured War

Apparently inspired by DarkLink51, Jaffar255 started this off with a thread titled "It's War!" People signed up, created their armies (the 3 main forces were Ragnafar, Mercountry, and Nin's Axis of Ownage) and... nothing really happened.

When Legault-the-Ninja, preparing to actually go off to war, saw the thread, he took matters into his own hands. He created a new thread titled "Structured War" that actually showed how things would be run in this virtual war. And things picked up from there.

Eventually, LTN departed (but has since returned) and people grew bored of the war. RIP, another brief fad.

User emotes
The user emoticon fad started way back when Merc was absent for a long period of time. This resulted in a day being dedicated to Merc, and out of that day came lots of great things: Mercitized mugs, a Merc'd banner, and most of all, a Merc smiley. To be fair, later on, the staff collaborated and decided that user emoticons could be made and added. This fad is still in circulation, and it may last for quite some time. Here are some smilies:

:merc: ninemote.gif AeoSmilieEvil.gif lssmiley.gif nssmiley.gif BKSmilie.gif yoshismile.gif DHSmilie2.gif DFSmilie.gif dvsmiley.gif dezsmile.gif DEN2-S1.gif gfsmile.gif :swords: MoJackedSmilie.gif inuemote2.gif

FES Yu-Gi-Oh

Started by Zephiel, this fad consisted of members using a generator to make themselves into [insanely funny] Yu-Gi-Oh cards.

Roughly a year later, a revival of FES Yu-Gi-Oh was attempted, but it never really caught on.

The "hi-jacking" of Nin's sig

This was never really meant to be a fad. The inspiration came, however, when Denning saw that Dragon Hellfire had the "Nintend-Failure" custom title (formerly held by DL51). Then, Denning later made his own custom title, which was, "Nintend-Success" in order to mock the Failure variation. Soon after, Denning asked permission to use a sig that he altered out of (the original) Nin's. Soon after it was added, several people began picking up on it at once, and it became somewhat of a slip of paper that various members of FES signed by crossing out various preexisting words with new ones, and, of course, replacing each other's personal mugs. Some users who didn't want to have a hijacked sig made a special one of their own (Katrina, Commander, and lumoroske made their own...), but, some of those sigs were hijacked, as well.

(Fun Fact: In order to fan the flames of the fad, Denning changed his name to Nintend-Success in order to have the name and sig match. Although, most of the sigs were already made by then, anyway...)

April Fools, Again!

To celebrate FES's first annual tradition, Nintend-Fan made sure that there would be an AFD celebration yet again. The annual post tagging contest was revived, and this time it was revamped, and better than ever!

This year's notorious pranks were:

Yoshi setting up a redirect from EA to "The Spritez Alliance", a supposed merge between FES and EA. Nintend-Fan set up the redirect on FES for a short while. In The Spritez Alliance, Deathfire had taken over as root admin, while Bosox posed as Jeff, Swords as Darkhector567, and Nintend-Fan as Thundering Dynamo.

Nintend-Fan pretending to be Ewan_The_Druid (last year's notorious April Fools spammer) for about 5 minutes. Just for fun. tongue.gif

Nintend-Fan making everything backwards, by reversing posts on the forum. Backwards filters added to the chaos, as well as some random censors that Nintend-Fan randomly threw in. The next four and a half hours were chaos. yay.gif

8-Bit

This particular fad was kicked off by DarkLink51, who created an 8-bit form of his mug and wore it as his avatar. Many other users followed his lead, and thus, a new fad had formed.

---

My goal is for this to be a working compilation of major happenings here at FES. If you have anything to contribute, or suggested revisions to an existing entry, please post it.

You guys are so ill-educated. For one thing, it doesn't matter if Swords leaves; he's no longer a staff member.

And for another, that stuff has already happened. The Denning knows alt and all that, used to PM the link to FESpirtez was made when I (at least me) wasn't online.

I frequent the mod boards often just in case, yet I think nothing is going down; he apologized. I'd share some of the PMs we discussed from him on the moderator's boards, but it's not in my best interest to post them. Besides, this isn't a DrH discussion thread. Discuss our history and what is yet to come, because we've all moved on about the Darkhector thing.

Regardless, he MIGHT come back later, but the mod boards say he was last on on July 26th. Judging from that, we could only assume that he just left and never came back.

If he DOES come back, though, don't start any crap with him. Or else, he might actually do something to mess up this forum for real. All you guys can do is either respect him or ignore him.

I'm happy I wasn't around in DarkHector times, and I too think that he scrambled that code.

A few notable pranks were played. Nintend-Fan screwed around with the censors so that "a" and "e" were changed to "z", among other ridiculous censors.

Heh, Hoe did that, they changed all the i's on the site to y's. Except they kept it on for a while.
Anyway, maybe you should do a history of the more popular members, like AK, or BK?
