Renegade's Sprites and Such...

Alright, I've been inactive for a while, but hey, when did activity levels count here, in our little cornet of the interwebs?
I've cleaned up my spriting and have also learnt more skills. And now that I have a proper mouse (damn this trackpad) to work with, I can work faster. I'm saving up for a tablet for my lappie, so that way I'll have even more tools at my disposal!

Hm, they're all pretty decent splices and recolors. I like the weapon work, but the hammer and katana seem a bit awkward.

Renegade - January 9, 2009 01:04 AM (GMT)
Damn! It took me a while to make them. I guess I'll have to remake them...

Aeorys Kirru - January 9, 2009 01:05 AM (GMT)
Not so much remake as much as alter. They certainly aren't bad - the shading is just a little odd. The hammer's angle makes it feel kind of flat, but the shading is decent on it. The katana curves at an almost ridiculous angle, though.

aznswordmaster1 - January 9, 2009 01:12 AM (GMT)
Well the only thing I can really say for the mugs is when you recolor, make sure that some pallets don't look lighter than the other colors, cause that seems to be the case with the recolored mugs. The Weapon icon I think came out great.

They're not weapon icons. They're weapons to use in sprites.

aznswordmaster1 - January 9, 2009 01:26 AM (GMT)
Oh sorry my mistake, I normally don't see weapons for battle sprites separate from battle sprites so I kinda went with Weapon icon.

Dark Overlord Zack - January 9, 2009 02:10 AM (GMT)
all nice, I like the scythe and polesword the most

Renegade - January 9, 2009 03:00 AM (GMT)
Thanks! I'm currently working on some more.

Sorry for the double post.

The hair is supposed to be different, but I suppose it looks better with the same orange.

Aeorys Kirru - January 9, 2009 03:12 AM (GMT)
ASM1 means that you shouldn't use colors that are more saturated than the outline color. If you have a liking for brighter shades, I'd suggest using FE8 border color.

To edit your post, there should be a row of buttons in the top right corner --

Thanks, AK.

Any ideas? I'm running out...

aznswordmaster1 - January 9, 2009 04:00 AM (GMT)
Well you could try splicing mugs together.

@AK: Thanks for clearing it up for me, man I need to expand my vocabulary some more. XD

Aeorys Kirru - January 9, 2009 04:41 AM (GMT)
@ASM - LOL I don't think your vocab has any problems. Just the way it's phrased, I guess?

@Ren - Agreement with ASM on this point. Splicing is definitely a good start. Seeing as you've already done battle sprite splices, why not do mugs?

Renegade - January 9, 2009 05:14 AM (GMT)
Hmm... I've tried splicing Ward's eyes to Lugh's body, but failed. I guess if I put my head to it, I could come out with something good - other than eye splices. Maybe hair, noses and other accessories.

>>EDIT<<

I've finished my spliced mug. How's this?
user posted image
Remember, it's my first splice of a mug, so I'm just starting to get the hang of it.

Aeorys Kirru - January 9, 2009 05:17 AM (GMT)
Try clothing. It's typically a little easier than facial features and hair.

Renegade - January 9, 2009 06:27 AM (GMT)
How 'bout this?

user posted image

Aeorys Kirru - January 9, 2009 06:31 AM (GMT)
It's decent, but the neck needs shading and smoothing out. Eliwood's neck is a tad too small for the body.

Update
New mug added: Tinei.

Xenx-Zona - January 9, 2009 12:54 PM (GMT)
Thats a good splice but it needs shading where the bandana meets the head

aznswordmaster1 - January 10, 2009 06:20 AM (GMT)
Well when your doing mug shots, be sure to add shading to where hair or other things make cover face or parts of the body.

Sorry. >_< Thanks for the tips, though.

I like your weapons! Nice designs.

MegaDethKlok - January 13, 2009 01:42 AM (GMT)
Very nice stuff, but then again, I'm no judge of art. I can't wait for more. Are any of these actually useable in an FE game? I'm a noob with all forms of spriting, including importing/exporting a sprite to/from an actual game.

Aeorys Kirru - January 13, 2009 02:24 AM (GMT)
Mugs are usable if they fit in the constraints of certain dimensions and are 16 colors or under. You'll have to check if you want to use them.

The random Myrm edit made me LOL.

Renegade - January 13, 2009 09:21 PM (GMT)
@Bonestorm, Well, remember this. My 7yr old cousin was angry, and I decided to cheer him up by letting him make an FE sprite. It's not the best, but he's only in 2nd grade, and has never played FE in his kiddie life.

@MegaDethKlok, Try this thread at FEPlanet. It's their master romhacking thread, full of stuff and things about romacking - hence the name.

Use UNLZ.GBA to replace mugs. It was buit specifically for GBA ROMs. There's a full process on it too, not just copy>paste>apply>play. You have to cut up the picture, recolor it, check if their's <16 colors. Try looking for some tutorials on UNLZ.GBA, and you can use my mugs (I need credit, remember?). I'm not so sure if it'll work with battlers.

I might write a tutorial on it later on today.

The random Myrm edit made me LOL.

Well, it sure is a bit funny. XD But you just can't complain about his imagination.

And by the way, his reason for making it is way cool. : )

Renegade - January 13, 2009 10:48 PM (GMT)
I'm not complaining. I'm just saying that if you thought he was my age, you would be confused. His imagination is great for a kid of 7 years.

Yup, it's my axe on your Wyvern Halberdier alright.

I like most of your battle sprite weapon splices and custom weapons. As for your mugs, the only thing I can suggest would be to work on shading. Keep up the good work.

Renegade - January 15, 2009 02:23 AM (GMT)
Wow, thanks! You're my fave spriter here - you and AK. It feels good to come back from a day without internet to find out you gave me critique, and good ones at that!

I'm not the best at shading, and the Sage Knight was my very first mount.

Aeorys Kirru - January 15, 2009 02:25 AM (GMT)
LOLWUT No Merc or Uther or Dei in that list?

Sage knight is a good concept. His arm is a tad long, though. I think the horse could be a little more decorated?

Use UNLZ.GBA to replace mugs.

I recommend using Nintenlord's NLZ-GBA at feuniverse.net/forums.
It a program made to replace UNLZ-GBA because it's better. It
Even allows you to organize the palette for non-indexed images.

Renegade - January 15, 2009 04:57 AM (GMT)
Ooohh... You make me curious...

I know you'l lol when you see this...

o_ô Interesting... Is that a llama?

Renegade - January 15, 2009 05:16 AM (GMT)
GAH! Everyone says it's a llama! I tried to find a decent, not-too-hard to edit picture of a goat, and came up with... with this?

Meh... may as well fix it.

@Rag, I just noticed your new mug. You fixed up that lump of skin where you took away Canas's monocle. It's not bothering me.

About Merc, Uther and Dei Enyt: Merc's too good! I completely forgot! I've heard of Uther, but never seen his works. I didn't even know DE had a sprite gallery!

My fave Merc works. Phail'd pun...

NB: The Latin in it means "From God and the King."
