Title: FES Mafia

gamefreak - February 1, 2008 01:52 AM (GMT)
Suggested by Jeigan, I thought it was a great idea, here we go.

For those who don't know how to play, here's what you do. First, people will sign up. I will act as the mediator. Once everyone is signed up, I will select 3 special people. 2 will be members of the mafia, and one will be a guardian angel. The mafia members will discuss through PMs who they want to eliminate from the members (kill) and the guardian angel can select one member who they want to be saved, and tell me through a PM. The guardian angel can be killed, but he/she can also save him/herself.

Once this happens, I will announce who was killed. The people still left in the game will discuss who they think the mafia members might be, and then they will elect to remove one member from the game. The mafia members will be involved in the discussion to hopefully draw blame away from themselves.

There's also a detective who asks me if someone is in the mafia.

These are the rules I've learned to play by, so if anyone doesn't like something, or wants to add something I forgot, just tell me and I'll be willing to change it.

So who wants to play?

Oh, what about the Detective? They get to ask whether a specific person is with the mafia, and the mediator says yes or no... I think.

Inuyasha Lover - February 1, 2008 02:04 AM (GMT)
sounds fun, I want to join.

Everyone gets a say to who they think the mafia is, and they decide as a group who they want to eliminate.

But the detective can find out for sure. <___________<

It adds a new element of strategy to the game, because he obviously won't go and tell everyone, because he'll just get himself lynched.

Seems too easy, but I added it. If people don't like it I'll remove it.

I'm in.

Hunter-Ghor - February 1, 2008 02:47 AM (GMT)
In, but it needs more mafia. How many people played the games you're used to, exactly?

Bizox - February 1, 2008 03:02 AM (GMT)
I'm in for the win.

oranj - February 1, 2008 03:02 AM (GMT)
I can play as long as it's on the weekends

The amount of Mafia should be relative to the number of players.

I am IN.

Jeigan - February 1, 2008 04:03 AM (GMT)
In.

Also, something like 8 cits and 4 mafia would work.

And TWO MAFIA?

...

wut.

yoshi71089 - February 1, 2008 04:36 AM (GMT)
I'm in.

If you have 18, you need at least four. If you have ten people, 2-3 mafia is good. When I've played 24, there were 6 mafia. But I think that's too many people for a game.

Black_Knight_456 - February 1, 2008 04:40 AM (GMT)
I must be the only one to have not played this before.

Hunter-Ghor - February 1, 2008 04:47 AM (GMT)
Under normal conditions, at least a third of the players should be mafia. So, around 3 or 4 for a game of 11. I've been in a game with 13 players that worked fine with 5 mafia, actually...

Not really. You can't have less than a third of the players be mafia in a normal game, especially with clues. How 'tf are the mafia supposed to have a chance at winning against those odds?

I won in a game with like... 15 citizens and 2 mafia. My partner got voted out in the first round, but I still managed to win, even with a detective in play.

It isn't hard if you're smart about it.

I don't see how even a really good player could pull that off under normal conditions unless the cits were retarded, which I doubt will happen here. Throw in the clues, and I don't see how it's possible.

I've barely won in similar conditions (1 vs. 11), but only because of the way the game was set up and the lack of clues. If there either was clues or a normal roleset, it would've been impossible, and this game has both.

yoshi71089 - February 1, 2008 08:30 PM (GMT)
Well, for practically any game, the mafia has a severely low chance of winning unless they can get rid of the doctor or cop in the first few rounds. Once they do so, they have a much better chance of winning.

Two mafia in a room of 10 people is hard, but its that much more betterer when you win. :D

Hunter-Ghor - February 1, 2008 08:32 PM (GMT)
So why hurt 'em further? There should be a mostly even chance of the mafia and cits winning even without getting lucky. Games where one side doesn't have a chance are just pointless, since it barely matters what they do or what the other wide does. Player skill is irrelevant, so there isn't even a point in playing.

Eh, whatever. Everyone plays differently. %::%

Hunter-Ghor - February 1, 2008 10:52 PM (GMT)
Here's an idea: After this game and maybe a couple more, I run a few games after that and show what kinds of games are actually interesting.

Zephiel - February 2, 2008 01:22 AM (GMT)
Oh man I played this before at camp. It was so fun :D

I'll play.

That's fine.

I'd like to try both ways of playing, to see which turns out better.

Falc - February 4, 2008 11:08 PM (GMT)
I'm in so long as it's not over IRC. Can't do IRC till spring maybe.

If you play things right, you can easily sow mistrust among the cits by playing off of known rivalries.

Jeigan - February 4, 2008 11:20 PM (GMT)
I think each game should have a different Gamemaster.

Also, we have enough ppls, it seems %::%

Nin-Finity - February 4, 2008 11:27 PM (GMT)
15 people should be enough. Let's get this moving before people forget that this exists.

Thirty7Dollars - February 5, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
Can the 37 round it out to an even 16?

I love teh mafias ^.^

gamefreak - February 5, 2008 03:58 AM (GMT)
$37 and Falc are in. I'm PMing 4 mafia people, 1 detective, and 1 guardian angel. If you don't recieve a PM tonight, you are simply a civilian.

Please try to respond as quickly as possible so we can keep this game moving as a good pace.

gamefreak - February 7, 2008 08:49 PM (GMT)
Alright. The first victim has been chosen. And it is....$37. Tough luck buddy, you're dead. I'll be putting up a poll to see who you all think did it.

gamefreak - February 8, 2008 01:27 AM (GMT)
Hmm. I guess I should let people discuss first then. I'm sorry, I've never played mafia online before.

Nin-Finity - February 8, 2008 01:36 AM (GMT)
Well, I know who I'm voting for.

Jeigan - February 8, 2008 01:39 AM (GMT)
There should be some kind of fancy narration where you put hidden clues so we actually have something to discuss >_>
