Hello, I would like to ask you all the question.
Which is superior, Graphics, Gameplay, Story, or Music?
Its a simple question and I'd like to hear your views on the subject.
Thank you for your time.

You need to POST A REASON WHY you think it is superior

Please give a reason why,
Otherwise its not a discussion,
It can be short or long,
it doesn't matter,
as long as it gives a reason as to why you think it is superior

If you want graphics, you can watch a movie.
If you want story, you can read a book.
If you want music, you can just listen to it without a game.
Video games, while they have those other three things, should be most focused in the thing that only they can do: Gameplay.

Good Graphics and Music are a plus for any game, but they are not necessary.
And as to which is superior between Gameplay and story, I must say gameplay. Only the best of stories can save a game from having horrid gameplay.

Gameplay.
You can ignore the storyline; you can mute the music. Graphics is different, because you have to live with it. I mean, you can ignore it, but it doesn't go away. Graphics are important, but gameplay is the most important, because you can't ignore it. Period.

Gameplay is the most important, obviously. You can take away any of the others, but you can't take it away and still have a game. Graphics are important so far as that they don't hurt the eyes or restrict gameplay (ie, lack of 3D, though obviously many games overcome that) but even older games are still great. Again, music is only important in that it isn't terrible. As long as it can beat that, it can only make the game better. Story is essential for RPGs, in my opinion, but others can survive without it.
Reikken - September 11, 2007 10:46 PM (GMT)
Gameplay by far. It's the whole reason I'm playing the game in the first place. Without gameplay, it's not a game, it's a movie (or something else, like a graphic novel or something).
Ragnarok - September 11, 2007 10:51 PM (GMT)
Gameplay, because even if a game looks or sounds really bad/annoying, I won't mind if I'm having fun playing it.

Gameplay, as long as it's fun, I'm good with it. I usually turn the volume off anyways. >.>
However, Stories are also a great part of the game, and are often the most essentail part to the game. Hotel Dusk Room 215 anyone?

I think gameplay is obviously the most important, but the others are more important than everybody else says. Graphics obviously need to be decent or else you won't want to play the game because you can't look at it. Sound is important too. You can mute the game of course, but I feel that that really takes away the mood of the game and makes it less immersive. Story is very important, especially if the game is one of those games that deserve to be called art. You need to know who these people you're playing as are, and why they are doing what they are doing. Without story, games like Final Fantasy would be pointless, and even games like Gears of War would be dull without a background and motivation to the characters besides "you need to kill these alien things kthnxbai"

Story for RPG's, gameplay for everything else. RPG's can have whatever system they want but as long as it has an epic story I couldn't care less what kind of game I'm playing, because it's easy enough to make fun out of it. I'm more likely to turn down a game with awesome gameplay and a bad story than a game with an awesome story and bad gameplay.
And this stuff about "you need gameplayzzzz lulz" assumes that just because something is more important that the gameplay doesn't exist. They _wouldn't_ be "Video Games" if they did not have _some_ form of gameplay.

IMO, story makes up for mediocre gameplay. I'm an aesthetically-biased person. Even if the game isn't so hot, I'll love it for the story, graphics, and music.

Story, as other people said, is crucial, seeing as I don't want to play a game that doesn't develop charactors, or give WHY? Music makes games irrisistible to me. If a game has good music, I will keep that game on hand at most/all times. Gameplay is a given naeccicary. How they go about their style is really negligable to me, so long as it has a good story/music. Graphics are simply a bonus, not a reason to get a game.
King Denning - September 13, 2007 01:31 PM (GMT)
All of them have importance in making a game good. Story a bit less, but the other three contribute something.
-Obviously, a game with bad gameplay will just frustrate you to no end. While you're busy attempting to figure out the controls, you'll be dying about 934850945680596496437568760943807 times because you didn't know what the hell you were doing.
-A game with bad graphics will make you want to shut the game off. While an easy to play game with nice music will be a nice treat, graphically, if the game looks like garbage, you won't like to look at it for long. It'll be too hard on the eyes. The graphics should be mediocre at least.
-And now that I think about it, music isn't all that important, either. You can just turn off the game's music and/or sound and just play a CD or something. Especially since video game music (the standard, anyhow) just gets repetitive. Have you ever sat on Route 22 in Pokemon RBY for three hours?

I agree, I loved the game dark cloud, I guess the game play was good for it's age,but I did not really like it, but! I loved the storyline.

Well, I agree with Denning that you need all the elements for a good game. But to go along with the thread:
Gameplay is definitely important. I mean, if you can't figure out the controls or if a level is almost literally imossible and what such other things, then the game won't be worth playing, even if it has a wonderful story. Afterall, what use is the story if achieving it is impossible or frustrating? As previously stated, game play is the essence of a video game. Emphasis on game.
Music is very important to me. Most in part that half of the fun of a video game for me is figuring out the music from it and playing it on my bass or piano. A game with bad music is one I generally end up giving away quickly. Yes I know I can mute the sound, but it just feels so empty without music.
Story is almost a tie with music, but not quite. That's because a good story is so easily messed up by poor gameplay. That and if the story is linear (like in FE), it just gets in the way after you play the game about the second time or so. However, if the story is nonlinear, then I push it up between Music and game play. Now don't get me wrong, the story of a game is important, but a story can be effected too easily by other elements.
As for graphics, well, I like them to be at least mediocre, but they certaintly aren't very important. Obviously a game isn't enjoyable when the graphics are just an eyesore.
