Hey guys I just thought it was time for us to have some intelligent discussion and I was thinking, are you here for Enjoyment or for Contribution?
Enjoyment
“Success in highest and noblest form calls for peace of mind and enjoyment and happiness which comes only to the man who has found the work he likes best.”
-Napoleon Hill
“One feels inclined to say that the intention that man should be happy is not included in the plan of Creation. . . We are so made that we can derive intense enjoyment only from a contrast and very little from a state of things.”
-Sigmund Fried
“I eat to live, to serve, and also, if it so happens, to enjoy, but I do not eat for the sake of enjoyment.”
-Ghandi
"All earthly delights are sweeter in expectation than in enjoyment"
-Francois Fenelon
"Life is meant to be happy, I mean, what's the point of living without?"
-anonymous
Contribution
“The human contribution is the essential ingredient. It is only in the giving of oneself to others that we truly live.”
-Ethel Percy Andrus
“Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy: true fulfillment.”
-Anthony Robbins
“There is no greater calling than to serve your fellow men. There is no greater contribution than to help the weak. There is no greater satisfaction than to have done it well.”
-Walter Reuther
“When you cease to make a contribution, you begin to die.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt
Balances and Similarities and Connections
"Ambition(an ambition to contribute) is a lust that is never quenched, but grows more inflamed and madder by enjoyment."
-Thomas Otway
My personal philosophy on this topic is that we should find our enjoyment in contribution, with a healthy attitude, and there is always a time for our own enjoyment, benefiting only ourselves, but there is such an imbalance in this. However, there are those who are so focused on contributing that they have no room to enjoy themselves.
Here is a way to respond:
