The land of Ethyria once was home to six very powerful nations: Vardas, Éridor, and Saradas controlled the largest continent, Malven and Rowan were located on the island of Iskoshia, and Nerane commanded the far northern islands. For centuries these six nations cooperated, and lived fairly co-habitual lives, or so they thought. Tensions began boiling, however, when both Saradas and Malven lay claim to Brutus' isle, located directly between the two countries. The two countries soon became embroiled in war, and the whole of Ethyria was affected by it. Yet, it was not just Saradas and Malven that had begun to harbor hatred in their hearts. Tensions between Nerane and Vardas, though they had always been high, were especially so with Nerane's Lord Zachary Kesan. Vardas was again home to another attack on their throne, this time with the Asolioh family clan trying to take the throne. Rowan's civil government was affected by a scandal within, and had erupted into a civil war not soon after their long-standing ally Malven had declared war on Saradas. Only a few years after the two countries had started feuding, nearly all six nations had been affected by the disasters of war.
The Asolioh clan had soon ousted the Carinthas family from the throne of Vardas, killing nearly all from both sides. Yet a lone surviving Carinthas fled to Éridor, unbeknownst to anyone. Lord Kesan of Nerane soon declared war on its long-standing nemesis Vardas, and what had always been loathing turned to pure hatred between the citizens of both countries. While the terms of war were unclear, to the citizens, it was clear that this war was nothing unexpected.
As he fled to Éridor, Sevarin Carinthas managed to kill a high-ranking military general of Éridor, and had assumed his identity. Under the alias of Gene Walden, Sevarin Carinthas led a coup against Éridor, and within a few years had killed its lord, and had amassed a giant army. Éridor's capital city of Darino was soon destroyed, and much of the people of Éridor were killed, or had escaped to other countries. Yet, Sevarin's plan for domination did not stop there.
Vardas, a long-standing ally of Éridor, did not come to their aid however, in their time of need. Sevarin used this fact to recruit many of Éridor's refugees, and together with his army of bandits and exiles, he attacked his home country of Vardas. Sevarin's army wiped through the Vardas countryside quickly, using his knowledge of his countries' defense secrets, and had come upon Vardas' capital Höllentor. Sevarin then defeated the last of the Asolioh clan, and reclaimed his seat on Vardas' throne.
During this time, the war between Saradas and Malven had taken its toll on both countries. Malven was not able to rely on its ally Rowan, who were still embroiled in civil war, nor could Saradas her allies. And it was during this moment of weakness that Sevarin decided to continue his plans for domination. Summing up the might of Vardas, he attacked Saradas, and together with Malven's weakening, the sand country easily fell. Vardas, after a mere decade, had succeeded in taking over an entire continent.
Not soon after Malven conceded property of Brutus' Isle to Vardas, and negotiated with them to avoid more bloodshed. Rowan had all but destroyed itself during this time, so the Malvenian government agreed to absorb their allies, and as the two countries merged, they were renamed the country of Leora.
Before Vardas could continue its imperial dream, however, Leora allied with Nerane in its war on Vardas, both in order to protect itself, and to stop Vardas' advances. The three countries soon decided on a peace, after many years of war and much bloodshed. Nearly seven decades have passed since the three countries had made peace, and as the years have passed, and leaders changed, it is unclear how much longer that peace may last...
