Title: the system of the world
Description: the way it should have been
carlantis25 - October 13, 2009 07:21 PM (GMT)
During my American history class we had to think about some kind of "what if" that would have changed the world. My idea was great but I received a "D" on it.
my idea was.
What if Japan held control over korea and china the first time they seized them?
World war 2 probley wouldn't have happened because then Japan's lust for power would have ended and wouldn't have had to bomb pearl harbor. If Feudalism still was the biggest form of government we still had the warrior class? Well if japan would have kept control then maybe we might have some even more technological discovories. Japan is the leader in many electronic system developments so by this standard could we possibly have achieved flying bases or cars? This idea isn't so far fetched either. If world war 1 didn't start Japan would still had Manchuria..............................

Except Japan's lust for expansion wouldn't have been sated. They were a militaristic nation and the way that the military stays in power is through public support, which comes through victories, which comes from expanding into other countries. So no, WWII would've continued. Hitler would've seen them as the dominant power in the East and asked them to attack us because all he wanted was Europe. Even if Japan didn't bomb Pearl Harbor, WWII would've still occurred. Even though the Axis would've most likely won because America wouldn't have had a solid reason to enter until it was too late

1. Epic.
2. This is called a slippery slope, an informal fallacy made when a person fabricates a path for a given situation to take when the situation in question is chock full of ambiguities. Given how complex the situation is without even considering the butterfly effect, you cannot deduct exact results such as this. You could make arguments showing the likeliness, but you'd probably just open yourself up for getting raped by the disads.
3. ...wut. We still have warriors ... feudalism or no.
4. That's just an inefficient use of resources. We already have flying vehicles, btw.

@hpty: I'm talking about Japan's first invasion to korea and China back with the samurai.
And Khriss I'm also wondering what would the world be like if the feudal system was still used. thats what I meant

Just because Japan took over Korea and China (in this "system") doesn't mean the feudal system would have stayed around. We progressed from feudalism in other parts of the world, not just Japan, so it's really not logical to say that feudalism would still be around if Japan had conquered China and Korea. Changing one thing in history DOESN'T mean that everything that followed in history WOULD change, necessarily. There really is no way we could know.
Also, you should learn to write better, and then your teacher may give you a better grade on your paper. :dez:

I worte two pages typed to post it here I condensed it tgo the major points and not defending feudalism. If Japan still had control over China and Korea they wouldn't have bombed us. They only agreed to do that because we as in America interffered with their take over of Manchuria. If Amerca would stop babying other countries Japan maybe more than just a group of Islands, it could have been parts of more landmass, which would have given them the raw materials to imperialize, then give up to the military rule. Thus eventually giving power back to the Emporer.

1. They, Japan, wanted the entire Pacific Ocean.
2. If you typed it out the way you post things on this forum, I would not blame your teacher one bit.
3. Japan did not bomb us because Hitler asked them to. They did it because we were being Imerialistic pig dogs. Not the most important, but teachers catch on to this kind of stuff all the time.
4. The instance of the first invasion of the asian mainland and the bombing of Pearl Harbor are events quite far removed, and I personally could not condense the series of causes and effects that precipitate that conclusion in only two pages. Protip: Don't condense when you don't have to; if you lose too much meaning by being forced to condense, pick some other legal option.
5. Feudalism died late in Japan's history, around the late 1800's with the instance of American steam ships appearing on the east side of Japan. Japan saw fit to change their attitude towards technological advancement and society at large since they had fallen far too much behind.
In conclusion: Epic topic (I agree with Khriss's argument), but somewhat poorly executed. Post the Paper to possibly sway our opinions. It is hard to base an argument on the condensation of a prior condensing.
Edit 1: Editted for clarity.

ok now since this topic is turning into you guys revising my paper and thanks to all of the criticism from this topic alone, my teacher is going to let me re-do the report so now I have to get this done friday morning................... any ideas how it should start?
Khriss - October 15, 2009 07:55 PM (GMT)
Here's how I tutor people:
1. You ask questions about the subject.
2. You attempt the problem. (In this case your essay)
3. You ask the right questions.
4. You finish the problem.
5. I revise. (Or, in this case, FES)
Sound agreeable?
