Puppets are only utilized by a select number of shinobi. Specific skills and abilities are required when working with them. Puppets come in a variety of shapes and sizes and are almost always handmade by the user to their own specifications. Typically, puppets are large enough to be able to maintain the appearance of an actual person if the need arises.

Due to their large size, puppets can be extremely difficult to carry around. Because of this, not many ninja use them, however, those that do carry them in large sacks on their backs or conceal them within scrolls. Puppets are controlled by the user and are infused with the user's own chakra. Empty puppets-- those are, puppets without chakra-- can be used to trap the minds of enemies by using certain techniques, such as the Mind Puppet Curse Seal Technique*.

Only a select number of characters in the Naruto series use puppets, namely Kankuro, Chiyo and Sasori. They are available for purchase in the Weapons Shop.
