Anti@SS posts:
http://support.yuku.com/topic/6540/t/Pre-Yuku-Community-Chest-Funds.html

QUOTE
Either I completely misunderstand how to read these stats, or yuku's still working out the stats kinks, and I've been an ez/yuku customer long enough to know that either explanation is equally plausible

Silly old Anti! It's all explained here:

QUOTE
Working out how much your Gold Community is going to cost is not as difficult as it seems.

Riiiight...

QUOTE
To work out in advance what 1 year of ad-free page views could cost you, use the No Ads/Opted total for 1 month, and apply it to this equation:

(ad-free page views/1000) * .2 * 12 (ad-free page views divided by 1000, then multiplied by .2, then multiplied by 12)

Anti quotes a load of stats. but not a whole month's worth. So I'll take the middle seven days from his quote (19/2 to 25/2):

QUOTE
02-25  123644  18115  59942
02-24  91601  16377  62084
02-23  91765  14114  57279
02-22  116085  16880  70602
02-21  128017  18510  67227
02-20  129372  17541  67069
02-19  116161  19595  68929

Tally up the last column and the total "No Ads/Opted" is 453,132.

So (453,132/1000) *.2 *52 (for weeks instead of months) = $4,712.

For a message board.

Of course, at DreamHost for $120* you could start with 500GB of storage (increasing at 2GB a week) and 5TB of bandwidth a month (increasing by 40GB a week) with a free "one-click" phpBB installation. Hell, I think with the $4,600 you'd be saving, you could afford to buy a vBulletin licence. Oh and you could always run your own Google or other adverts to help generate some revenue.

Or for $4,800 a year, have a dedicated server with 24/7 server monitoring - Yuku only appear to have 12/5 support... - and hourly versioned backups too. Ask Yuku about backups...

*oh and use the promo code EZSAVE50 and get $50 off for the first year.

Of course if you look at it in the round, something definitely doesn't add up:

Sucks on anything other than Yuku? eek.gif

Awful as Yuku may be, I can't imagine Sucks being on any software other than DCForum/ezBoard/Yuku.

Why not? Are those using it incapable of using better message boards?

This might be tangential, but...

...aren't there options where a board owner could set up some kind of paypal option on their board so that they can collect additional funds (say if the board was moved to vbulletin and self hosted)? I don't expect sucks to move because of the special treatment they get and also because of the difficulty of porting over their posts to a new system, but it would be a vast improvement over staying with Yuku.

Not that, we're just used to ez/Yuku and their "features."

It never used to at ezboard as Labatt was so desperate to keep them. The same may not be true at KickApps/Yuku though...

You won't believe it, but that's what we mean by "features." rolleyes.gif

Minus the censorship, though. Isn't that up to the board owner?

And I don't believe for a second that Sucks is getting free Gold Community. Sucks stays alive through Yuku Supporters and user donations.

Anywhere else, yes, but we've already seen ransom deleting posts from other boards.
