Five healers framed the woman's bed as the midwife stood between her legs. It was a difficult trial, Sven knew. All he could do was sit in the other room, wincing at every scream, tensing with every moment of silence.

At last, a piercing cry made his heart leap. He did not wait, but burst into the room. He had a child, but was his wife well? Heart pounding he saw the two of them... the two pieces of his heart: Nadya and Rune.

She took a step in, then took a step back and before anyone could prevent it, she burst into a sequence of ample movements, pirouettes and bows. The ribbons swayed with her body and the materials shimmered and shone in millions of different ways, with each new position.

"Rune. Come back, young lady," her mother said, humorously. "I think Coleen might cry if she has to sew the hem again." Her mother winked to the mentioned servant who smiled bashfully. Rune returned to her stool and hopped on it. "Well? What do you think?" asked her mother.

"I love it! It's amazing!"

Neither Will nor Kellen had noticed and Freya was only two. She didn't notice anything.

Her father looked startled. He frowned slightly then took her in his arms.

"Yes. But she will be well again. Just you wait."

A few months later and more healers than she could remember, her mother was dead.
