He nodded.

If she ever stopped butchering Escovan, she might someday find herself in a position of power. They had a Queen who was a Refugee (a strange thought to someone like Barez), so why not a Ranking Mage? He already knew Miss Jyotis was a quick learner—but the fact she actually knew what to do with her smarts was a bonus. He'd met enough Mages who were intelligent...but otherwise useless. Little practicality, too much theory.

It made him feel better knowing he hadn't chosen frivolously after all.

He looked at he weapons and then glanced up at her. “It begs the question, though: why not Ward your weapons with something damaging, Miss Jyotis?”

He wanted to see where he mind worked. Fast and slow were two qualities in battle, but damage and injury were also factors. He wanted to know why she favoured the former—at least when it came to choices. Why pick slowing someone down over shooting ice through them? Why pick speed when she could strike lightning into the heart?

"Well, not same Ward on both. If have both for use," she shrugged, as if that was the most obvious thing. Then again, she always did have trouble knowing what was implicit or not in her answers. Controlling speed was just for the opening shot, if she had the advantage of knowing she was about to engage in combat. "Slow on bolt. Damage on blade," she said, holding up each item as she named the type of Ward.

Qhori almost wished she could somehow draw out what was in her head rather than scramble for words. "But if is just one shot, I slow first, because I cast spell better, more strong, than Ward weapon. Is more damage/" Wasn't it all about playing to personal advantages? She knew she was a better spellcaster than she was a Wardcrafter, and could output more damage directly than through an imprint on a weapon.
