Dude. Celebration. Happy things.

Escova needs happy like a sailor needs shagging.

Blue balls ain't good man...

So, do we have winter celebrations? Spring? Summer? Autumn? Winter? Spring? Summer? Autumn?

Aw, fuck.

I just realised. *facepalm* That this should be at the bottom of the page, in the Q&A, and not here.

*facepalm*

Sorry. sad.gif I'm used to it being the third forum from the top, and straight on till morning.

Cannot be bloody assed to change accounts.

Was talking about this with Ash -- we could create special 'customs' and such. Dances in the main squares... entertainers. Fire-eaters, strolling players, astonishing aerobics!

Basically -- fun things we could make up and have a blast throwing our characters into.

Wrong forum?

My dear, but I do believe that you are mistaken.

:3

Also, yes, I like this. We should definitively have a winter festival of some sort. Like, the higher-ups or what-have-you in the Escovan government just wanted to balance out the GOD-AWFUL winters with some happy, so they made up a holiday. tongue.gif

Or, you know, something logical like a religious holiday of some sort.

Though, I do have to point out that the previous... happy occasions that have been attempted haven't been met with much response (the wedding festivities, and I believe there was a refugee festival of some kind at one point), so if people have things they want for this, that would be helpful, too.

Something that would make you interested, I mean, if you're not already.

Wren would definitely get involved with enjoying the festivities!

Just throwing that out there. Not sure exactly what she could do to help with festivities....but she'll enjoy them.

Well we can keep with the usual and have festivals based around solar events: the two Equinoxes (Equinii?), the two Solstices.

Then we can have a Tristella day.

And then maybe a day for when Sven finally puts his penis into Astraea's vagina. You know, because it'll only happen once a year--if ever. It'll be the mahakumbh mela of Escova.

That's reportedly happened already.

Also, ew.

Since it's winter, could we have the Winter Solstice festival? The whole city's a flame; it starts at midnight with dances around large campfires in the city squares, loud music and lots of scrumpie (since apples are way easier to grow in that climate than wine).

People with masks representing the 'spirits', plays depicting the beginning of the world, blah blah. It'd be fun!!

I can guarantee at least two of my characters attending. Make that three.

The Maha Kumbh Mela. . . . . . Uzair, you are absolutely slaying me right now. XD

I love festivals and things. AS A RESULT, I am 107% in support of this idea, as long as it doesn't turn into a long time of someone prepping only to have it all ignored. Let's just establish that there are some epic events and let people do what they will, yus?

A Winter Solstice-type celebration could be really cool! With the religious significance of water and the established frequency of difficult winters, it would make sense to have a feast of some sort and a celebration. A lot of people are probably slaughtering their livestock so they won't have to feed them during the winter, and feasting would be nice . . . because I'd be willing to bet that a lot of refugees and peasants across the Island Nation starve during winter.

As the resident religion guru (as far as Pryism is concerned):
  • A lot of religious rites are probably covered during this festival time. Children are probably blessed for The Rite of the Child in mass because winter's likely to lead to the deaths of a lot of babies and whatnot. Older persons looking to get to The Rite of the True around this time will probably come together to do it during a winter festival of some sort just because it's a hint of additional significance.
  • There's probably a lot of worship of Alra, specifically, during this time because she is said to have created the sky, and that's where that snow comes from. tongue.gif Of course no one can forget Aro, since he contributed to the seas and stuff.
  • There would be a lot of idol-worship at this sort of thing. Craftsmen may make massive sculptures specifically for the event.

I like the idea of celebrating the equinoxes and solstices, and we need a celebration for Tristella because holy CRAP, that would be epic and controversial. biggrin.gif Just gotta determine when she died and figure out when the celebration should take place, I suppose.

For Tristella's Day (Day of the Martyr?), maybe we can make it a mixture of celebration and solemn events--like Easter, where Good Friday is all serious and sad, and then on Easter Sunday, it's all joy to the world. I like the idea of Passion plays, where Tristella's Passion (we'll need a proper term for this) is reenacted on the streets. I vote Ari to play Tristella. 'Hey, you're going to be flogged, stripped and spat on. you in?'

And then, for the celebration of Magic being brought into the world (which is what happened when Tristella was cliffed), we can have the Mages Guild put on shows and what not.

And yes, fire.

Fire everywhere.

Oh, I'm sure Ari would be all over that honor. xDDD Finally, something she excels at: being punished for no damn reason!

I like the idea of a passion play, too. zomggg Freaking... this is going to be awesome.

Keep Oz away from the bon fire, he might try to set the town on fire :3

Day of the Martyr.

Who's in?

We could start with the something like 'The Ringing of the Bells' in which, at dawn, bells are rung for a good hour or so across Escova, signalling The Day. People -- especially the religious -- do not shower, wear makeup, or otherwise dress up. They simply climb out of bed, come into the streets, and join really loud processions towards the nearest body of water (in Maristheum's case, that would be the River Isak). They sing songs about Tristella/Escova and there's drumming and incense Thuribles and walking and stuff.

Or, maybe the Procession takes the traditional route to the Precipice of the Martyr -- which would be a two-day journey from the city.

Passion plays happen along the way?
